Broner's persona gets on my nerves. and I think it gets on a lot of people's nerves. His personality and "humor" are so forced that it just comes off super corny. But I do love watching him fight...
... Which I think is what annoys me the most. I'd love to be able to watch him fight without watching his wack, trying way too hard, ring facade and instead just be able to appreciate his talent as a boxer with less of the extra stuff.
I've never understood why people consider being against gay marriage to be the same as condeming gays in general. That's as stupid as saying that being against women dying the color of their hair is the same as hating women. Very big overgeneralization of a part of a larger picture.
That said, Manny should not have backed off of his comments, and the fact that he can't simply speak his mind, not making any direct hurtful comments to anybody, is a shame. Had he spoken against the legalization of marijuana, gun laws, or almost any other political "hot topic", this would be a non-issue. But since he ruffled the feathers of the gay community, this is being blown out of proportion. Truly ridiculous.
This is a shame. Think of the things shoe companies have had to drop athletes for; Rape case (Kobe with Adidas), Dog fighting ring (Vick with Nike), Use of PED's in the olympics (Marion Jones).
Even if you're the biggest of gay supporters, can you seriously class making some anti-gay marriage comments with the aforementioned as a dropable offense?
Political correctness has gotten so far out of hand it's ridiculous.
Pacquiao, currently the World Boxing Organization welterweight champion and regarded by many as the best pound-for-pound boxer on the planet, already has a burgeoning career out of the ring. He is a member of the Philippines legislature, hosts a weekly TV game show and has his own vegetable business.
For whatever reason, this alongside the rest of that paragraph made me chuckle.
But anyways, I don't see the problem with his comments. If athletes, actors, tv personalities, etc can come out in support of gay marriage, or chime in on any controversial matter really, I don't have a problem with him also putting in his two cents against it.
