616 also known as Grand Rapids, Michigan the hometown of the Mayweathers, Tony Tucker, Buster Mathis Sr and Jr., Peter Kid Chocolate Quilin and the birthplace of James Toney.
My town too. And don't forget the Michigan Assasin, Stanley Ketchel
Don't you love how they do that?
Yeah, unfortunately it's pretty rare that we get championship fights in Michigan. I didn't drive out for Bradley vs Alexander and was soooo glad I didn't. Hopefully K9 can produce a highlight KO.
What about Bowe/Holyfield IV?
LOL, just kidding. Big Daddy needs to retire. So does Holyfield. They should take Rahman with them. I'd say Toney too, but I'd like to see him in one more fight, vs Valuev. I think he would look amazing working his inside game against the giant.
"Don’t know what the readers think, but dudes who come to the ring in a cage, adorned with a lion’s head, and then drop bombs make for future must-see viewing in this camp."
Agreed! I can't wait to see that dude fight again.
I don't think he looks old. I think he looks *serious*. I think people are used to seeing him smiling and joking so much that when they see him not doing so they think he looks old.
As somebody pointed out it's July and he's started training for his September fight. That shows that he's not taking Ortiz for granted.
And as far as those people that think Vic is gonna KO Floyd, don't forget that Vic couldn't KO a blownup lightweight, seriously old and fairly easy to hit Nate Campbell.
A few thoughts:
- A Don King fighter fighting in 3 fights in 1 year?!?!!? That's a nice change.
- Doesn't Alexander have a mandatory with Kaizer Mabuza after he beat up Kendall Holt?
- With so many of the good 140lbers already involved in fights, who's Bradley gonna fight this summer?!?! Kotelnik? Ngoudjo?
What about Vanes? He always says he wants a big fight. Maybe K9 should invite him to Detroit. Or maybe Kirkland who should be ready to fight by Oct/Nov. That would be a fun fight as long as it lasts.
How about a 45-45 split; the winner gets the extra 10.
Anyway you wanna look at it, that 10% is gonna be a staggering amount of money. The kind of money worth fighting for.
Probably will never happen like that, but it'd add a helluva incentive. Don't you think?
I was thinking the same thing. It would add to the fight hype too I would think.
Hopefully this meeting will get the promoters talking about putting other tournaments like the super middleweights are doing.
I'm curious how this will be run. Is there a person (or people) that enough of them respect that can get them to talk honestly and stay on the important topics rather than them all getting sidetracked into a big bitching session?

What's going on here? Looks like a fight about to go down on the right hand side.

I was at the press conference. The dude in black is interviewing the kid. The kid trains in the same gym that Floyd trained in as a kid. The kid is picking Floyd to win the fight.
LOL, your "interview" cracked me up. :)
This is the only way team duckqiao can hype up the fight..because they know it's a catch weight fight they always come up with the manny is not focused excuse..too many shows to attend ..politics bla bla bla blaa..just so people think oh no duckqiao won't be ready for the fight..how pathetic they are..

Ok, haters.
I was at the press conference. Here's my take on things:
- Sunglasses? Hell yeah! It was hot, humid and way sunny. Everyone in the stands that had sunglasses had them on. Canelo even had them on, but for whatever reason he took them off for the faceoff.
- Attendance. Look, it's Grand Rapids, not LA, NY, DC or some major metropolitan area. Plus, the press conference was at noon. We here in the Midwest do something called work. I took a half day so I could see the press conference and do some other stuff.
- Golf carts. This took place on a local high school football & track field. Obviously no limos would be allowed on such a field.
As somebody from Grand Rapids, it was REALLY SWEET, to have this type of event. Schaefer said that when they were planning the tour, Floyd wanted them to stop in Grand Rapids to give back to the city where he was from. Kid Chocolate was there too (he's also from Grand Rapids) and was interviewed. They had some kids groups down on the field and some bounce castles & things set up for them to play in before the conference began.
Sure, it wasn't packed, but the people that were there were excited to see the fighters and talk about the fight. The Canelo fans chanted "Canelo". Floyd hyped the crowd with "Hard work" and they responded with "Dedication". It was a good time for free, it probably sold some PPVs and certainly made some fight fans out of some youngsters.
