In the news:
Manny Pacquiao takes over Floyd Mayweather's old gym amid rematch tension
50-0
50 wins and 0 money :lol1:
A random gym that had Floyd's name on it being taken over by his biggest rival is big news in the boxing world in many ways. It is kind of a punch in the face financially demonstrating that the real money boxing champion is not Floyd "no money" Mayweather but Manny Pacquaio. The latter is sending a message right there.
You must have missed the part where they said it's an exhibition.
So. Many fighters back in the day used impressive performances in exhibition fights to get a shot at a championship belt or increase their marketability.
As long as this are real fights and not the arranged ones that you see Floyd taking nowadays or another youtube circus fight by amateur boxers like Logan Paul, it is all good.
Pacs 154 belt is 100% bogus. he fought it at catchweight of 150. Margacheater had to even had to come down in weight.
So Margarito still weighed over 165 lbs on fight night, way above the limit for junior middleweight while Manny only came in at 147, 20 lbs less than Margarito.
The fact that Margarito actually fought over 10 lbs above the junior middleweight limit on fight night gives the fight legitimacy for that weight division.
Absolutely delusional. I'd love to have seen this guys face when 48 got knocked out by Marquez, dude was probably sobbing. JMM handled that speed nicely. No problem at all. Put 48 to sleep like a baby. Same for Spence. Too easy.
Hmm. The way I remember Marquez was on the verge of getting knocked out himself, getting beaten up and losing all the rounds they have fought so far when he threw that Hail Mary that knocked out Pacquaio. That is boxing. The question is could he do it again.
Marquez knew he got lucky. That is why he never accepted a rematch even after being offered the biggest purse in his career to fight Pacquiao again.
One of many intriguing potential 118 fights, but unlikely to happen given the line-ups that were supposed to happen and remain most likely, mainly Inoue v Casimero and Donaire v Oubaali, then Inoue would take winner Donaire/Oubaali to unify.
If Donaire beats Ouballi, I can't see him getting out of another war with Inoue in any shape to continue fighting - as well as he fought, he took some helacious damage against Inoue last time out.
Only way we get Donaire v Rigo is if he loses to Ouballi without taking too much damage, then its Inoue v Ouballi and leaves Donaire open to a possible rematch with Rigo.
But, been saying all along, don't rule out Casimero to upset the apple cart and beat Inoue. Inoue/Casimero is the most intriguing of them all.
You could say the same about Inoue during his fight with Donaire. Inoue came out of that fight with a lot more damage than Donaire: a broken nose and orbital bone which caused him to have double vision.
I agree about Casimero though. That guy is one tough customer who has kept on winning world titles in 3 different divisions despite fighting almost entirely on foreign soil.
Arum eventually realized how dangerous Casimero can be and steered Inoue away from that fight with Casimero on his very first fight under contract with Top Rank.
Pacquaio did say during interviews he prepared a lot harder for Spence( averaging 30 to 31 rounds per day of sparring, mitts, bags, etc.) than he did with Thurman(25-26 rounds per day) so he is in better shape now than 2 years ago.
Its funny you say that because he had a 144 CW with Algieri and it was stated by Roach they were testing the waters for 140, they never went there, Oscar said he could make 147 same 7lbs and it ruined him, Manny been at WW for 20 fights now I think 140 will hurt him today, as I said its easy to say you can do it.
Funny thing about weight, doesn't matter what weight you are the guy your fighting is the same weight there abouts because of the division, a flyweight fights a flyweight, when he grows into a LW he is no longer a flyweight if he weighs 135 he every bit a LW.
Today Manny is a WW people try to make him out to be a flyweight its totally irrelevant today because he grew into the divisions.
He could cut down to junior welterweight but he doesn't have to. He is the top bill in any fight at this point in his career so he can pretty much dictate terms within reason when setting catchweights so I think a compromise weight just above 140 lbs would be decided upon in this projected fight between Pacquaio and Garcia if it pushes through. Even Garcia's father said 143 lbs would be okay.

It depends upon the fighter. Donaire seems to have made the transition to a lower weight level(bantamweight) from a higher divisioin successfully even though he is 38 y/o already. He is even contemplating on going down further to superflyweight to win a regular world championship in a 5th weight division to improve on his legacy of being a recognized world champion in 4 weight divisions.
Manny Pacquaio's list of accomplishments In the Guinness Book of World Records after this fight:
Only boxer to have 8 won Division World Championships
Only boxer to have won 5 Lineal Division World Championships(more impressive in this era of multiple sanctioning bodies)
Oldest Welterweight boxing champion
Many champions have retired undefeated. There is a Thai boxer right now that has beaten Floyd's record number of undefeated fights. But no other fighter including the all time greats of the past can match Pacquaio's record number of division championships in a record number of weight categories and especially lineal championships(where there is only belt on the line per division). It will be almost impossible to duplicate and should cement Pacquaio's status as all time great in the top 3 overall.
How many mandatories has Pacquiao fought in the last 12 years? The guy wants everything catered to him. Titles and drug testing (which he's only done 4 times in 10 fights) **** the diva Pacquiao.
WBC President Sulaiman just said yesterday that Pacquiao has had 100 administered drug tests during his career and has always tested negative for all of them. He is one of the most tested individuals in boxing because of his long career.
During that time a lot of fighters have failed their drug tests including current popular titleholders such as Canelo Alvarez and Tyson Fury, so maybe you should point your fingers at those boxers.
You talk about mandatory titles. Why not ask how many world champions Pac has fought(24) and defeated(22) in different weight divisions the latter of which is just one shy of the world record(23) held by Mayweather. Anybody who jumps as many weight divisions like he has(and won championships in a record 8 of them) clearly doesn't have much opportunities for mandatories like other boxers who stay within their own division.
5 of those divisions where he has won championships were for lineal titles which is again another world boxing record, where you have to take the title from the previous titleholder in a continuing line of succession(which is how it was given before the advent of different sanctioning organizations in boxing), not for some random alphabet title that some organization is willing to give you.
Unlike a Senator or Congressman a President is a full time job. There are no breaks available between sessions and no absentee ballots allowed. Roach is being selfish in even thinking this a possibility.
Pacquaio certainly wouldn't be voted into that office if he ever admitted considering this happening.
At the end of the day, I consider the most important title in boxing is the lineal title where you must defeat the previous titleholder in a clear line of succession in order to become champion, not some alphabet title that some random organization is willing to give you.
This is how champions were determined when there weren't so many sanctioning bodies back in the day and holds particular relevance today in this age of multiple world boxing sanctioning organizations.
Pacquaio holds the record for most lineal titles in different weight divisions today with 5.
Sure you don't.
I have addressed it. I have posted 2 different sources. If you read this then you've read my other posts that show Gibbons is somewhat mistaken.
No you have not. You still haven't addressed the fact that Manny in his long career has been undergoing random drug many times and has always come out clean.
You cannot just schedule when to inject or take drugs when you can be tested at any time during random drug testing, like he has been in the past multiple times.
You might get a lucky once or twice, but you will eventually get caught, just like Julio Cesar Chavez, Shane Mosley, Canelo Alvarez, Fernardo Vargas, Andre Berto, Lamont Peterson, Roy Jones Jr, Felix Sturm, Antonio Tarver, James Toney, Tyson Fury, Alexander Povetkin, Jarrell Miller, Luis Ortiz(the latter 5 are 5 of the 10 top heavyweights today) have been.
Manny needs to go to DAZN and fight Canelo. Show Spence how it’s done. His contract with pbc is up. Fight Canelo manny. For your people!
Sure, will Canelo be willing to fight at 147 lbs? Manny who really is a natural lightweight and is fighting already a few divisions above his real weight division, has already said he is not going beyond that.
Casimero and tete never have or will be on the level nonito is/was. Nonito is a1st ballot hof and would have koed casimero or tete as well
I think you are underestimating Casimero.
He is a 3 division world champion just like Inouye and he won most of them fighting on enemy territory while Inouye has the luxury of mostly fighting at home.
Casimero is a road warrior winning 7 times in world title fights in 7 different countries which isn't easy to do. He even was involved in a riot in Argentina where he was nearly attacked by the fans, when he knocked out the local champion in a world championship fight and the fans started throwing chairs in the ring and began fighting.
If Casimero ever gets a chance to fight Inouye in Japan, it would be something that he is used to doing and has the utmost confidence of winning given his track record.
Nonito is a 4 division world champion and deserves all the acclaim he has received but he has mostly fought at home in the US where he is based and is now 37 y.o.
A younger Donaire at his peak would have been the favourite to beat all the current champions in the bantamweight division but he is way beyond his prime. Even at 37y/o though he gave Inouye everything he could take breaking Inouye's orbital bone and seriously hurting him in one of the middle rounds that Inouye had to hug him to survive.
Apparently the promoters themselves are also ensuring that the fight will be clean as they instituted some random blood tests. Keith Thurman confirmed this in an interview during the pre fight presser. I don't know if this is any different from PEDTO making random blood tests that was announced by the WBA or an additional test done through PBC.
Pacquaio's manager also said that Pacquaio already underwent random testing twice already recently for this fight. Since Pacquaio is signed up for the VADA Clean Boxing Program 24/7 365, that might be the other agency that gave him the random blood test.
It also sounds from his statements that Thurman is not signed up for the VADA WBC instituted CBP 24/7 program. He doesn't have to, since he is the WBA super champion and he says it is not his job to create testing.
Nevertheless Thurman points out a fact that you guys should take note. From his comments he thinks that Manny is also clean.
"He doesn't look 10 years younger. Pacquiao is a natural athlete who's been active for the past year. He's been very active and he stays in shape. He doesn't look anything out of the norm."

Some people seem to be unhappy about the testing for this fight. Can you share your thoughts on that?
K. Thurman
I've always been a clean fighter. I've been tested throughout my boxing career at all times. At the end of the day, there has been testing and it was done through the promoters.
It's not my job to create testing. I fight clean at all times ever since I was an amateur striving to be an Olympian. I'm prideful that even my boxing style is pretty clean. You don't see Keith Thurman being warned for low blows constantly.
You don't see me being warned for head butts or anything like that. I have always been a clean fighter. I always will be a clean fighter and it's one of the least of my concerns. Manny Pacquiao, we've watched him. He doesn't look 10 years younger. Pacquiao is a natural athlete who's been active for the past year. He's been very active and he stays in shape. He doesn't look anything out of the norm. Whatever the promoters request, we do. There will be testing just like every fight at the world championship fight before and after the fight.
How come no mention of Crawford???????
The article I referenced did mention Crawford. Promotional obstacles as usual seems to be the culprit whenever Top Rank and PBC are involved.
highly unlikely, pacquiao hasnt knocked anyone out in ages, and when he drop thurman it was not a real knockdown because thrumans legs were tangled causing him to fall back he was never hurt.
Actually it was a punch to the body that forced Thurman to lower his guard while stepping back in the first round that gave Pac the opening to land a punch that knocked Thurman down.
The body shot to Thurman later in the fight really hurt too as he himself admitted. He had to run and avoid Pac to give himself time to recover.
The video doesn't support the ''debilitated injury'' theory. That's why I sent it.
Anybody can play or fight through an injury. I am a hockey fan and in the Stanley Cup playoffs, I have seen players play even with fractures and other serious debilitating injuries. They just fight through the pain.
But just playing or in this case boxing without your vaunted speed or strenght against the likes of such a good defensive boxer with a 5" reach like Mayweather is an exercise in futility. Manny needed to be 100% to even have a chance.
The only way those 2 can settle this is in a rematch. If you want to be considered an all time great, then do the same as other all time greats and settle all questions in the ring in a rematch and not in the minds of critics and fans.
Otherwise Floyd will never be spoken of in the same breath as Ali, Leonard, etc. Those guys took on all comers despite the risk of losing in multiple matches. Floyd even refused to take on Thurman and decided to retire instead. Manny on the other hand if he wins this fight will elevate himself above Floyd in the mind of many critics because he is still at the age of 40 taking on all comers regardless of age and beating them.
You forgot to mention boxer of the decade and 3-time boxer of the year.
Some journalists are also mentioning this fight as leading the Fight of the Year rankings.
Pac sold a lot of PPVs during his fight against Broner and Thurman averaging 400,000- 500,000 PPV buys. I don't see why Manny in his possibly last fight against Ugas won't do as well in terms of PPV buys.

Filipino fans - what has Manny done since becoming a senator?
Has he successful created and passed effective bills or aggressively fought corruption? Has he used his immense global influence to get sponsors to build hospitals?
Building dozens of house for dozens of people is not really a politician’s job. It just makes him a humanitarian and a philanthropist.
Based on the blind devotion we see on social media, I bet you all think he’s the greatest politician that ever lived and most likely will vote for him to be president?
Asking for a friend.
He did use his influence to build a hospital for his district and he is generous to a fault.
I am not sure he would make a good President because of his lack of experience as an administrator but his intention to help the poor in the Philippines is sincere.
It takes more than sincerity though to build up the economy of a country so that poverty is reduced for majority of the population. It takes a lot of micromanagement and planning at the national level to achieve that and I am not sure Pac is equipped to handle that.
Yes he has, no need to lie. If you think it was because of VADA testing, that just shows how stupid you are and how you will shape your thinking to fit your agenda.
Manny lost without VADA testing. Likely because the other guy used just like him.
Acc. to the NSAC and his manager Gibbons, Manny has voluntarily submitted himself to the World Boxing Council / Voluntary Anti-Doping Agency (VADA) 365 24/7 program, so regardless of any drug testing agreements done prior to the fight, he is still subject to random drug testing throughout the year.
Not all boxers do that, but he has and always tested negative in his very long career. With random drug testing you can get away on a few occasions if you are lucky enough to have those washed out of your system when you were subject to random drug testing, but not long term like he has.
Of course haters will always find excuses, but it would be better to point the finger at boxers like Canelo, Jared Miller, etc. who have all tested positive for drugs in the past than Manny who has always been clean throughout his very long career and actually fights on fight night at or a few pounds below the welterweight limit(147 lbs) instead of going over that like most of those taking drugs would normally do.
No he has not! Stop making up lies! Manny hasn't been doing shiiit for over a decade. It kills me how fanboys make up false narratives to support their favorite fighter.
Look it up pal. Except for the Matthyse fight in Malaysia, it has been documented that Pacquaio has been taking continuously random drug testing(VADA or USADA) for nearly a decade.
There is no way you can schedule using a banned substance under random drug testing for that extended period of time without getting caught and he has always tested negative.
Just ask 5 of the 10 top ten current heavyweights in the rankings : Tyson Fury, Dillian Whyte, Alexander Povetkin, Jarrell Miller, Luis Ortiz as well as boxing's current darling Canelo Alvarez who have all been caught cheating.
Neither Duran nor Robinson were juiced up to the gills moving up in weight and dominating and physically hurting bigger men ...
How do you know that? Neither Duran nor Robinson was tested during their time and steroids abuse by athletes started in the 1950's so we don't know if Duran used them.
Pacquaio has been taking tests given by USADA and VADA for nearly a decade now and has always tested negative. He even voluntarily signed up for the VADA 24/7 365 day random testing program just to prove he is clean.
In fact I can name a few notable Mexican fighters who have moved up in weight who have tested positive for banned substances during that same timeframe:
Canelo Alvarez
Erik Morales
Orlando Salido
Julio Cesar Chavez Jr
Ray Beltran
I'm surprised Pac is still pursuing this as there are other routes he could take for some easy paydays. However, he should hang up the gloves already in my opinion and retire as one of the greats.
Mayweather did beat Pac convincingly though and it seems odd that people still debate it to this day. The arguments using these weird angle photos, slow motion videos, over analytical stuff of how Pac allegedly "won" is pretty embarrassing though when he clearly lost.
Those arguments are just never ending cycles of desperation to just deny, deny, deny. Hopefully nobody on this forum still does this all these years later as it just makes you lose creditability and just makes people not take you seriously.
Yes. Mayweather won that fight handily, but as has been mentioned it was against an injured Pacquaio. Back in the day, fighters would normally get back in a rematch to remove any doubt in the mind of critics and fans who was the better fighter if an issue like that every came out .
I have always enjoyed watching Leonard, Duran, Hearns and Hagler fight each other over and over again. You don't see them avoiding each other like you see many of the fighters today and that includes Mayweather. They settled everything in the ring.
As Roach pointed out, Thurman tends to fade in the later rounds. I have not seen Manny so motivated and so vocal in his intentions to hurt his opponent like he has in this fight. I think it was a mistake for Keith to rile him up so much. The last time I saw an opponent show so much dispespect for Manny was Margarito and Manny basically beat him up and broke his orbital bone nearly forcing him to retire. I predict that Thurman will be able to hold of Pacquaio with his movement in the early rounds, but Pacquaio will eventually get to Thurman and try to KO him in the later rounds when Keith slows down.
And Pac showed if he didn't have what it took to beat Floyd, he would come up with a bogus excuse of an injury! I am so sick of butt hurt fans and sore losers.
Give it a rest dude! Pac lost! Floyd won! JMM knocked Pac TFO! For real! Pac's prime was when he refused any and all random testing! Take a reality pill! Ever wonder why Pac had such a long drought with KO's? No PEDS? "Nice guys" cheat too. Move on with your life.
Bogus Excuse, is it ? After the fight, not only did scans shows that he had a rotator cuff tear, but he had to undergo an operation by one of the most respected orthopedic surgeons in California, who had operated on other high profile athletes and celebrities in the past.
Manny has been taking VADA and USADA tests for nearly a decade now and has always tested negative. He even volunteered for the VADA 24/7 365 Clean Boxing Program that administers random blood tests between fights. What else can he do to prove himself clean?
During this time 5 of the top 10 ranked heavyweights today as well as well known boxers like Canelo Alvarez, Erik Morales, Shane Mosley, Julio Cesar Chaves Jr, etc. have all been caught using banned substances.
I meant to say Crawford, not Thurman. He’s not elite anymore and he wasn’t elite when pac fought him. His fight with josesito proved that. You said pac was the underdog vs Cotto, margarito and Thurman and the fact is he was not, he was favored. Wanna know why? Because Cotto was 2 fights removed from being beaten with plaster wraps, he had no trainer for his fight with pac and was dragged down to 145. Margarito came off a beating against Mosley, served a year suspension for cheating and then fought a nobody in Mexico. He had no business fighting for a title and that was a set up to give pac a belt. Thurman was off for two years, had an injury, almost got knocked out vs josesito and was clearly not the same guy who beat Garcia and Porter. So don’t change your tune and say they were favored by many when pac was officially the betting favorite for all 3 of those fights.
Just like Spence, Thurman was the clear betting favorite over Pac by a huge margin when Las Vegas set the odds for their fight. It was only later on when Manny looked good in training and his fans began betting on him that the bets began turning in Manny's favor.
It is starting to look the same for the next fight with huge odds in favor of Spence at the outset but it is already starting to narrow again after videos appeared and news filtering from his camp showing how good Manny is appearing in training.
I personally favor Spence at this time but I think Pac has a chance of surprising everyone by creating an upset like he has done throughout his career.
Manny's reaction when informed about the Amir Khan press conference announcing a Pacquaio-Khan fight in November:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qkpTfo2395Y
HUH? Bewildered expression. What?
