Yea he has British Citzenship, hes Northern Irish just leave it at that.
Sorry man, but he's not Northern Irish, he's Irish! He was born in Clones, and he lived Clones, which is in the Republic of Ireland! He may have lived in England for the last twenty off years so it's possible, more like probable, that he has taken up dual citizenship.
"Once again, I was just stating the fact that people from Northern Ireland are British.
That is why they have British passports."
This statement isn't fact! People from the north can either have irish or british or dual passports! So to say that the people of Northern Ireland are British doesn't paint the full picture.
This is my first time posting here, even though i've been visiting this site for a long time. I think Calzaghe has earned the right to be considered one of te greatest Bristish boxers of all time. the length of time he has been world champion and remained undefeated is remarkable.
I hope you are joking.
You are either joking or you have a really surprising lack of geographical knowledge.
To be British you either have to be from England, Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland. Or Gibralter or the Falkland Islands of course!
Just wanted to point out to you that Northern Ireland isn't part of Britain. It's part of the UK. And to clear it up about Barry McGuigan, he's not part of Britain or the UK, he was born and reared in Clones which is in the Republic of Ireland.....which makes him Irish.
you are talking about physical prime totally different thing
Eubank was far from his prime when Calz beat him as was Woodhall,Reid,Brewer
Reid was far from shot when he faced Calzaghe, and Joe still beat him after hurting his hand in the opening stages of the fight. Eubank had plenty of experience in big fights when he fought Joe, this was Joe's first 12 rounder, and Eubank couldn't live with the pace, Joe even floored him in the first! And man, come on, Woodhall isn't anywhere near Joe's league!
Why all the Calzaghe hating anyway?
that cheat put him on the floor legitimately in round 2 and made him look an amateur boxer
bitterness Hopkins is a ATG Joe is just another fighter
Hopkins had Calzaghe in down in the first not the second round!!!
Joe is 45-0 and you say he's just another fighter?! He's beaten everyone thet's been put in front of him, including Hopkins.
Does Ricky have his own show in the UK? I knew he's done a bit of stand up alright but this is news to me! Ricky is so popular I could actually see him having a hit, especially with the Gallagher boys involved. As much as I love Joe and Enzo I can see their song crash and burn but it would be worth it just to see Enzo with a load of bling, surrounded by bitches throwing a few shapes in a music video, lol!
There's alot of good fights for him out there but he needs to dump Palle as his manager, this guy is holding him back big time! I was glad to see Kessler in New York last week calling out some of the top fighters, he needs to be a bit more brash to attract media attension. Hopefully we'll see him fighting a top name in 09.
Joe Calzaghe and Ricky Hatton to square off in battle for Christmas No 1
10.11.08 - By Mark Pickering: British boxing icons Joe Calzaghe and Ricky Hatton could land the biggest hits of their career in December as they trade the squared circle for the recording studio to battle for the highly coveted Christmas No 1 spot. While Calzaghe’s future remains unclear after his stunning victory over Roy Jones Jr. in the earlier hours of Sunday morning the 36-year-old will spend some welcome downtime recording a track with Welsh rockers the Stereophonics..
The Newbridge southpaw’s dad and trainer Enzo, 60, will write the song while his glamorous model girlfriend Jo-Emma, 27, will be the face of the music video.
Musical maestro Enzo and co. will have it all do as Ricky Hatton, who’s busy preparing for his Las Vegas showdown with Paulie Malignaggi on 22 November, has enlisted the services of Oasis brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher.
The Mancunian trio will be looking to KO Team Calzaghe with Hi Ho Ricky Hatton, a take on the 1967 hit Hi Ho Silver Lining.
from ESB.
Think it's fairly reliable, though surprised Joe would finally embrace the limelight like that. To me is screams retirement, and showbiz stuff ready for promoting and such. Oasis and Stereophonics are major artists, serious shit.
Man I can't believe this was Joe's idea, Enzo has to be behind it!! Remember Enzo with the guitar in 24/7? I swear I thought he nearly struck a horn when he started to play it! There's no way it's ever gonna be a hit!
I doubt there's any truth to the rumours anyway. Joe isn't one for the limelight and it would be the last thing on Ricky's mind with the fight against Paulie so close. Oh and I nearly forgot, neither band have released a decent album in years so they'd be better off worrying about their own careers!
Winky is too long out of the limelight to merit a fight with Calzaghe. It's like a lot of these fights, it would have been great five years ago. Anyone think it might be a snoozefest though?
I hope Froch can take that belt home to Canada. Then the most natural fight would be Froth - Bute for an all Canada unification fight at the Bell Centre. That would be SICK.
I think you're getting a little mixed up my friend, Froch is from England.
Amir Khan is the best prospect out there period
Man I hope you're joking? I think Khan will have a decent career in front of him but I can't see him performing against world class competition. He confirmed what a lot of people suspected in his last fight, that the british media had built this guy up and made him out to be the second coming, but he got brutally exposed, ok you could maybe say he was caught cold but I still don't think he has what it takes to reach the top. No amount of training is gonna strenghten that chin of his!
personally i think miranda would beat kessler.
would be exciting, but i dont think kessler could handle the king
there is a good little thing going on with lacy taylor kessler arthur miranda and pavlik
all of those fighters facing each other is exciting, because out of the matches that have already happened none have been dull.
You right, there are a lot of good fights in the making at 168lbs and I can see one or two of them moving up to 175lbs as time goes by so you could nearly put Chad Dawson into the equation.
I wonder how Kessler will react when he finally meets a big hitter? He's been in with a few hard hitters but how will he react when punched by the likes of Miranda or Pavlik? Only time will tell I suppose but at least he's starting to get a little bit vocal and is calling out a few fighters. We need to see some of these fights in 09!
I still think Andy Lee is gonna come good. Technically he's good, he has an ok chin and power in both hands. He's had a setback but there's too much emphasis on keeping your "0" these days. He really needs to improve his work on the inside, concentration and ring smarts but the latter will come with experience.
