Some valid points there, what did you mean by Zhang was knocked down twice though? Was that in an earlier fight?
Yeah, against Beterbiev Artur of Russia. He beat Egan previously and it would have been a good fight if he was in the final.
Zhang's gold is at least as big a scandal as RJJ's silver.
It does not make big news because
1. Egan is not anywhere as good as Roy Jones.
2. Ireland is not USA.
3. What else do you expect from Chinese?
This is a bigger scandal because
1. Park Si-Hun, the guy who stole the gold from RJJ was actually a very good boxer himself even though Americans try to riducule him as much as they can.
He was the 1985 world cup gold medalist to go along with many other world class achievements. The gold at least went to a world class boxer, not a nobody like Zhang whose entire credential is just being Chinese.
2. Zhang got knocked down twice and still managed to win in the second round.
3. China had like 5 tie breakers and they won all of them. just luck?
And Zhang's was not even a tie. He was awarded a point when the other guy should have been!!!!
This olympic was a farce. This was the phoniest olympics ever.
fake singer, fake minority children, faked age, fake fake fake fake...
I just want to punch out Chinese fake-smiles and fake-hospitality.
lol sukz for them. least we got a gold medal:boxing:
Then say the same thing to Roy Jones Jr. A Korean guy got the gold.
Even with 51 golds, it is a pretty pathetic performance by China given its population size.
I think in Seoul Olympics China got a grand total of 3 golds.
Chinese have some very serious self-respect issue. They are the Rodney Dangerfield of countries.
In particular, it is mostly their men who don't get much respect despite the phony fighter-image thanks to Bruce Lee and cheap Hong Kong chopsocky movies.
In their own country, Chinese youths get regulary beaten up by central Asian youths like Mongols, Kazakhs, Uighurs sometime even Koreans who are not happy with the Chinese taking over their lands. There is the general consensus/prejudice in Asia that Chinese men are weak and docile.
It is noted that while Chinese women excel(to a degree) in all kinds of sports Chinese men really suck in sports requiring manly strength and stamina. I think boxing was one arena in which they tried to remedy this humiliating perception by others.
I don't think they suceeded. Even after this boxing "success", I don't think I will be scared of Chinese "thugs" in a dark alley as long as they don't carry guns or knives.
how is that racist? I say Black man, white man, irish man, china man? wtf?
The same way "negro" is offensive even though it just means someone is black. And the same way that the term was not offensive in the beginning but it is now because the context has changed.
Yeah come on. They won ONE Gold medal, they ROBBED the other.
I am not so sure even about that one gold. This was a tourn of upsets. The Chinese guy had the credential of a gold medal-caliber but that says very little in this olympic.
The cuban guy was made to lose to a Mongolian so that it would be easier for Zhou Shiming. But even against the Mongolian there was a bit of luck since the Mongolian had beaten Zhou last year in Asian Championship and may have beaten him under fair judging.
The Mongolian guy withdrew due to an injury suffered in the bout vs the Cuban but...
This was the phoniest olympic EVER.
