This is pretty sad. If you calculate zab's purses over the years he's probably made over 10 million dollars in sport. But him working in a nursing home seems to be an indicator that a lot of that money if not all of it is gone. And the nature of this come back which probably was not even for a six-figure Payday paints a pretty Grim picture of the situation. To be honest his life post boxing is probably not that bad and it was not desperation that made this come back more so just a bad decision. This is the situation Manny Pacquiao could be in with Thurman. It's not luck & Russian Roulette. When you get hit years and years and years it's inevitable that eventually your brain is going to start getting to the point where it doesn't want to be hit anymore. That's why I think Pacquiao should retire. He's on the high-risk list because of all the punches he's taken in 24 years in the sport.
Plant is in the right in this negotiation. Most people don't know what the negotiation fell apart because of. The money was not the issue for plants purse. It was like an 80/20 or 85/15 split in canelo's favor the split was agreed on that was not the problem. This is what Canelo tried to do. There's a clause in the contract that if Canelo gets sick or injured they have to delay the event till he is able to perform. No biggie right, that seems reasonable?
But get this in the reverse case that Caleb plant gets injured or get popped for one of those bogus covid tests Canelo wants to keep the event on the same date with a replacement opponent and he wants PBC to still pay him the same amount of money the same front end guarantee. So let's say PBC guarantees 40 million dollars to Canelo for this fight. Canelo thinks he is still entitled to 40 million if in the last couple weeks something happens to Caleb plant and a b side alternate needs to be brought in. After all the promotional work they did for that. Not a different price point not less money he wants the exact same money in the event of an opponent change. That is absolutely crazy and that's why PBC would not sign off on it. Again like I said the greatest risk is either guy could test positive for covid with no symptoms because that's the nature of the PCR test. Canelo Flexed his Diva muscles on this one big time.
His alternative was to try to get Bivol down to as low of a weight as possible with a rehydration clause as well. A little trick he learn from Floyd Mayweather. The Bivol fight fell apart too. And now Canelo does not have an opponent because he tried to fuck two different promoters. The September date was a traditional big pay-per-view date fight weekend in the Latino Community built up by Oscar De La Hoya and Bob arum. He lost that day by screwing around and that is why Caleb plant is taunting him.
Very stupid replies on here. Incredibly stupid actually. First of all this was going to be a career-high Payday for Canelo. It was going to be a career-high Payday for both of these guys but it is dependent on it being a unification title fight for Supremacy in the 168 lb division and a successful pay-per-view. The main financier of the fight you know the person that actually puts up the 40 million? Is PBC. Canelo doesn't pay himself 40 million. Previously Canelo was getting corporate welfare from dazn and PBC already spent all of its corporate welfare money keeping itself afloat the last few years. PBC won't pay 40 million unless they get a genuine pay-per-view attraction fight that generates over 40 million in Revenue. They won't pay for Canelo to fight a replacement opponent or anyone other than Caleb plant. Never in the history of boxing has someone asked for that sort of deal. He is absolutely f$$king delusional. As are the people that comment without even reading the article..
Wilder is in the conversation I would say he could arguably be top 10 as a puncher. But what I would hold reservations against him is that I believe he has the weakest competition level of any heavyweight champion in history. In his 40 plus winds he literally has only fought three Fighters that were ranked in the top 10 of Ring magazine.
So he has some good knock outs. But if you look at the one guy that went the distance with them it was Berman Stiverne the first time. Now look at that version of Berman Stiverne and ask yourself if he takes Earnie Shavers punches all night long. If he takes Lennox Lewis's right hand all night long. Mike Tyson's. Vladimir Klitschko. I'm not even convinced that version of Stiverne goes the distance with a young up-and-coming Sam Peter.
Jorge Cali looks like a Latino Lou Ferrigno. There's always the possibility Marcos Maidana gets clocked in this fight that guy is huge 200 pounds to apparently.
Actually a smart way to build towards Crawford Spence. Would be how about putting Terence Crawford in with Shawn Porter? Shawn certainly has nothing to lose but it's actually still a compelling fight despite Shawn coming off of a loss. I think that Terence Crawford is in drastic need of an opponent of that caliber. It would legitimize the fight versus Spence if he was able to convincingly beat Porter.
Steven's Chin is gone. David Lemieux fractured the last of it. I think it started to go bad when he did that whole graveyard r.i.p photoshoot of Triple G. That was the beginning of the downward spiral for the chin checker.
Despite breaking the all-time punch stat records it was an okay fight. I agree with much of the sentiment that Kownacki looks pretty beatable. Someone mentioned that a younger areola would have finished him I agree in that regard. Chris had more power when he was in his prime he was stronger and had more pop on his punches. And had more muscle on his body. Adam will be an exciting fighter against lower competition most top 10 guys will beat him. Adam koKownacki is a fun top 15 top 20 top guy. Even someone a lower top 10 guy like kubrat pulev would do a job on him.
Whitaker is good but he is a bit overrated go watch his fight with Jorge Paez he basically lost a lot of rounds to an aging blown up featherweight. He lost handily to De La Hoya I don't know why people say that was a close fight. He's still a great fighter though and in terms of if he's better than Mayweather or not I think Mayweather has better offense but Pernell was one of the best defensive fighters of all time. Mayweather has a better right hand and a longer jab and a better body for boxing he's taller and leaner and used his reach better. I also like Mayweather's punching power better than Pernell. Pernell did just enough to win rounds a lot and he was very very evasive and a very slick defensive fighter if you want to say he's the best defensive fighter of all time I would actually swallow that more so than people claiming that he's a top 10 all-time great pound-for-pound he's like a top 50 or top 60 all time great he should be nowhere near the top 10 of all time in any way class in history of boxing. I think a prime 135 Roberto Duran absolutely dominates Pernell Whitaker.
He can get one of the fake saline solution shots like all the celebrities the New World Order celebrities are getting. News for you folks the vaccine is covid. That's why he got sick in the first place he got sick from the first shot. If he's a smart Gypsy he probably got the saline solution fake shot though.
The Mikey Garcia fight vs Pacquiao would have been good too but Mikey Garcia makes very stupid puzzling career moves. He hurt his brand or a lot by taking the Errol Spence fight which he had no chance of winning. If Mikey could quickly get a decent win at 140 lb or even a title at 140 lb him vs Pacquiao at 140 would be a good fight. Manny has proven a lot at 147 he never really belonged there he's too small there. And at his current age he only stands to lose. He should fight a high-caliber fighter pound-for-pound type fighter but at a lower weight class I think that would be a fight that would make sense in terms of adding to his legacy. It's probably not a big enough fight but I would love to see Manny fight Jose Ramirez at 140.
This card is in my city. Fights rarely come here I'm thinking of going. 30 bucks on the ticket at 8 dollar, 8 oz beers. Not a bad evening. I think Angulo is going to get blown out within six rounds though kid chocolate is a legit 168 pounder he was struggling to make middleweight. Angulo was a beast at 154 but he was never the same after the Kirkland fight.
Knowing Floyd. I would not be surprised if this whole thing was a work and it's bringing up the value of the controversial Olympic gear. He's going to work out a deal with the auction house and they're going to be sold for a good lot more money then previous.
I do think it was a quick stoppage. He was doing well in the fight and it was actually somewhat of a sudden flash knockdown and he got up quickly. I don't see what else he could have done to show that he wanted to continue. He really did not even look out and punch drunk. If a fighter gets up and they are slightly unbalanced that is not a means to stop the fight. If they are stumbling all over the place fine stop the fight but if they get up quick at 8 and they want to continue you should let them.
There's one other factor that has me concerned about this and that is Russell Mora.
He participated in the most dirty refereeing job I have ever seen in 25 years of watching boxing. It was during the bantamweight tournament and it was a fight where Abner mares landed nearly a hundred low blows and never had a point taken it was the most low blows ever landed in a fight I am sure. You guys can YouTube the fight or look it up but I know some of you remember this.
I have never seen a referee do a fighter so dirty as that. The broadcasting team commented on it quite a bit they were amazed that a point or disqualification hadn't been served to Abner Mares. So Russell Mora is definitely a suspect referee.
His level of opposition is too weak to fully gauge his punching power. I'm not even sure that he hits as hard as Lennox Lewis. Go back and watch Lennox Lewis fight Andrew golota or Shannon Briggs. I don't think Wilder would have got those guys out of there like Lennox Lewis did.
He also hasn't fought anyone tough with a great chin. There's not an Oliver McCall or a David tua or a ray Mercer around for him to fight. Lennox fought all three of those guys.
There was a similar myth around Edwin Valero. Because he had 20 first round knockouts. Valero was a pretty good fighter. But when he stepped up and fought Antonio DeMarco who is probably the best opponent he had fought at that time. He did not look like a devastating one punch knockout puncher. Now watch Adrien Broner against Antonio DeMarco and tell me who hits harder Broner or Edwin Valero? You see what I mean about competition level.
Davis is going to be fun to watch but he's clearly pretty Limited. He's better at 130 than he is at 135. he doesn't have the discipline to really keep that weight.
And he has lapses in concentration and stamina. It's basically Zab Judah all over again good speed and power and has brief moments of looking spectacular but has tremendous lapses of activity and concentration and focus within the fight. And definitely concentration outside of the Ring during the training camp. Teofimo Lopez would have absolutely smoked him tonight. Lomachenko would have absolutely beat the crap out of him in the second half of the fight as well.
Everyone talks about fighting stiffer competition and the best fighting the best. Now you know why that doesn't happen this is what you see this is the real Davis.
Well there you go. It's not lack of Technology and instant replay that was the problem all these years. It's the obvious corruption. When are we going to take care of our corruption problem? In boxing and in government.
Absolutely no rematch. To be honest we shouldn't have even had a Tim Bradley Manny Pacquiao rematch less two of them. The fight that really makes sense would be vasyl lomachenko needs to be his own man in step up against his father's wishes and fight Pacquiao at 139 pound catch-weight that's the fight that makes sense.
I'm on Bob arum side on this one he usually is a straight shooter. I think a lot of posters on here failed to read the whole article.
What Crawford did is he kept arum hanging and didn't allow him to even promote him for the brook fight. Which hurt the ratings. And his manager leaked all of his existing contract details to the media to try to create more value for him through a bargaining War. He's basically making his contract limitations public to try to create hype and extort more money out of top rank when top rank is already losing money keeping him aboard.
In my opinion Terence Crawford screwed up by not taking a Shawn Porter fight. Apparently he has a homey Claus in his contract where he is not allowed to fight his homies. That would have been his first viable pay-per-view he has not had a single legitimate pay-per-view yet. Where area is Spence is now going on three successful pay-per-views events that actually made money. PBC would have served up Shawn Porter to Crawford. It would have been a great fight and it would have made the Spence Crawford fight much bigger had he won that.
Never ever feel bad for Fighters that make 7 figure purses over and over again to fight inferior competition. Oh poor me I'm the boogeyman no one wants to fight me.
I agree by the same logic as Anthony Joshua. Styles make fights and one of the things Ali stylistically did really well was jab from the outside. Mike Tyson at his best was a master of evading and slipping Jabs he would make himself very short and move his head very fast so he would be able to close distance on Ali. And that was Ali's weakness against Frasier is that he could not keep Joe off of him he could not keep the fight on the outside. If it was a 12-round fight it also favors Tyson because Tyson never fought in 15 Rounders. Ali in his later career which is not truly fair to look at in a fantasy fight. Gave up his body too much which would be a terrible thing to do against Mike Tyson. Mike did not throw looping wide body shots like George Foreman dead. They're tight and damaging. The prime Muhammad Ali moved a lot. But I can still see at times if it goes to the ropes that he could absorb body shots from Tyson. Because this happened to him with Frazier. In his prime.
Muhammad Ali is a great fighter. But you disrespect him when you put him on a shelf and say that no one can ever beat him. He can be beat and Tyson can be beat they both had losses in their career. But Prime vs Prime Style vs style I like Tyson in this one.
I will also go on record saying that I favored Muhammad Ali over Holyfield. But there is only a short window of where I think Tyson beats Holyfield.
I thought the 4 to 1 odds against Lopez we're crazy. This was shades of salido vs lomachenko. And I will tell you why even because it's different styles.
Both Fighters had size and physicality and they imposed it on lomachenko. It's the power and the pressure that puts lomachenko into a shell.
Lopez called it exactly how it was he said he was going to knock him down to 130. It looked like a lightweight versus a featherweight. Good fight. Really no shame from lomachenko considering how much he's accomplished in his career. But he needs to go down and wait and not lose to more light weights
I too thought he looked puffy and Bloated in the face. He's young enough to recover but he did not look good. It's been sort of sketchy on what injuries he had if he had internal bleeding or his teeth knocked out completely. It wasn't so much that his face look marred up I thought he had a little scar. But I've never seen him look chubby in the face like that he's always had a lean Look to Him even between fights. Some have mentioned it may be alcohol consumption. Between fights. I think that definitely happened to Adrien Broner he's a chubby kid outside of training camp.
If Paulie gets beat by artem lobov I think Showtime oughta fire him as an analyst. It's a bad look for them it was a bad look when Roy Jones was getting knocked out every month and then doing HBO color commentary with a concussion. Paulie got worked over buy McGregor. Anyone watched Mayweather McGregor and also watched Paulie malignaggi vs Sam eggington can tell you how that sparring session went without even watching it. Paulie is mad at McGregor like he's still mad at buddy mcgirt for stopping the Ricky Hatton fight he was getting worked in that fight too and he thinks he was winning.
Ultimately I don't think the money is truly deserved. Because I don't think anyone was truly at fault here he's in a dangerous sport and he was in a tough fight and he was hanging in there tough in the fight it was not even stopped late. There wasn't a gross negligence of any sort. And I know the family always feels they should sue and I don't really hold that against them for trying to recoup some money since they've lost their loved one. But it's not really a good precedent. Now if it was like Antonio margarito using plaster loaded gloves and then Miguel Cotto suffer brain damage in that fight? That's definitely a lawsuit. They are even trying to sue the referee. The main problem is that Mago, did not have the chin in the punch resistance of a David Tua or an Oliver McCall or a chuvalo.
The other thing that's going to come across as insensitive but I'm going to say it anyway. Is you have to determine what degree of vegetable you want to be in life. Adonis Stevenson appears to be recovering somewhat and will live a diminished life of some quality. But people like Gerald McClellan and this guy. Are basically vegetables that's what they are they can't talk they can't walk. I know if I was in that position I would want my family to mercifully put me down and that's the truth. So I don't know who's paying for this 22 million dollars an insurance company I hope.
This happens now and again and it is a tragedy but by the Numbers it's actually a very small percentage of boxers that befall this. There are tens of thousands of boxers that have competed without Serious injury.
Looking at it in retrospect is easier than looking at it when it was actually happening. When it was actually happening people just thought it was a good fight. In retrospect I don't like the way he was asking his Corner if his face was swollen he was touching and pawing at his face between rounds because he thought something was broken or something didn't feel right. But he kept fighting each round.
I have mixed feelings about margarito. On one hand I really enjoyed his career when he was an up-and-coming fighter and a boogie man in the welterweight division.
But I am left morbidly curious about when he started using the loaded hand wraps. There are two other high-profile fights that make me think he had them. The first Cotto fight and also the fight where he nearly took off a guy's ear. Sebastian Lujan I think his name was. The hardness of his gloves and punches is what lacerated that guy's ear.
I think margarito had absolute crappy management back in the day. If he were around in the easy money days of Al Haymon and dazn. That we have now. He would have maximized his prime better. I think to some extent margarito had a wasted Prime. He was a shell of himself in the Mosley fight and that was basically his first fight as a true headlining a side. It took him his entire Prime just to get to that spot. Fighters nowadays are moved much more carefully and are given Marquee fights much easier.
Yep. Espinoza is a weasel. Stay away from the vaccine. That will do more harm to you then the virus. The zinc, vitamin D, vitamin C ****tail I agree with. And I would add to it that concentrated wild oregano oil is an excellent antiviral as is lomatium Herb. I took both of those when I had a flu in February. It could have been covid-19 I catch the flu now and then and I don't panic cuz I know what it is. And I'm not a Superman or anything like that.
The pandemic will end after the election.
