Actually the Big announcement is
UFC has a Network TV deal
UFC will have a Fight in NEW YORK the first ever since it was banned there before.
UFC will also change the weight classes up from 15 pounds to 10 pounds to make it easier on fighters.
and last UFC will have 5 rounds for non title fights and 7 rounds for title fights.
instead of the 3 rounds non title, and the 5 rounds title fight.
Where did you hear about the last two items? Reliable source?
I see your point. Where your argument goes wrong though, is that MMA isn't so much a compilation of many different fighting techniques. Like saying "oh boxing? that's just a tiny part of the skillset that you need to succeed in MMA". This is simply not the case. MMA is a whole nother style of fighting in and of itself. Just because you throw punches in an MMA match doesn't make it boxing.
Boxing is utilized in MMA though. But, as I said earlier in the thread, the style of boxing you see in a straight boxing match VS an MMA fight is different.
Certainly a top level boxer will have better hands than an MMA fighter, but it truly is a fraction of what you need to be succesful. That isn't meant to degrade boxing, its just reality.
Regarding sugars post above, throwing flurries would likely lead to a boxer being taken down easier. I'm talking strictly MMA/boxing matches here, not street fights though.
Ignorance is bliss.
Of course you won't see the level of pure boxing in an MMA match that you would in a boxing match. First, MMA fighters don't train strictly boxing for their stand-up. Fighters have muay thai, kick boxing, karate, etc. backgrounds.
Secondly, when you have to deal with kicks, knees and takedowns trying to duck and weave like Floyd Mayweather would get you destroyed.
Would Floyd have the best hands in MMA? Yup, but he could be beaten in a strictly stand-up fight. He better learn how to check leg kicks and defend the thai clinch otherwise he would be the one getting knocked out.
An MMA fighter would lose a boxing match and vice versa for boxers. But, one person had it right, an MMA fighter would fare better. Why? Boxing is apart of their training regiment and as mentioned above obviously their technique would be different in a straight boxing match. I don't think many boxers are training jiu jitsu or wrestling.
No, My opinion>Your opinion.
I never said that Boxers would be ultimatley successful in MMA. I said they have more chance of winning an MMA bout then an MMA fighter has winning a boxing match.
Let me get this straight.....You think the hardest, quickest and most accurate punchers in the world couldnt land a single flush shot with those tiny little gloves? I never said it would happpen in every fight...or even the majority of fights......but it would happen.
Ok, Hypothetically a prime Tyson fights a prime Fedor. If you have ever seen tyson fight you would understand how he could beat Fedor AT LEAST 20 percent of the time.
You take Silvia and put him in the ring with even a B level fighter with boxing rules and he gets fucked up a large percentage of the time. A bad boxer almost always loses to a good one.
Congrats on taking my realistic reasoning and twisting it into some bullshit about Usain Bolt. You have acheived nothing.
A prime Tyson would get taken down and submitted in under a minute by Fedor. You throw an equally talented MMA fighter who trains boxing and they last longer. That is my point. Do you think Tyson trained jiu jitsu or wrestling? Nope. Do you think top flight MMA fighters train boxing? Absolutely.
Usain Bolt may be the fastest man in the world, but being a top flight NFL reciever encompasses much more than speed. Just like throwing a good punch is a fraction of what you need in MMA.
A boxer does have a punchers chance, but your stupid assumption that it would occur as much as 20% of the time has no basis.
Oi NuckleHead, see above. 95/100 the MMA fighter gets destroyed in the boxing ring.
Put a big strong, accurate boxer in what is pretty much a street fight ild say the boxer wins maybe 20/100.
Maybe the numbers would be different but your an idiot if you think an MMA fighter would fare better in the othe sport...
So your own opinion > valid reasoning?
What are you going to tell me next? Usain Bolt would be the best WR in NFL history if he tried football? A puncher's chance isn't good enough to win 20% of the time.
First off while GSP fights at 170 he walks around at about 190 so there isn't a HUGE size difference.
Secondly, it's obvious that GSP would take down Mike Tyson. GSP is arguably the best wrestler in MMA right now. He trains with the Canadian Olympic Wrestling team and has talked about making the Olympic team. He has outwrestled NCAA national champions and trains with other accomplished wrestlers in his MMA camp.
I'm sorry, but Tyson having great punching power means jack shit when he is taken down and pounded out or submitted. Being athletic doesn't mean jack shit stuffing a TD by GSP.
Lastly, when will boxing fans realize that the technique used in a straight boxing match won't fly in an MMA match. Do you think Floyd Mayweather would be rolling his shoulder with 4oz gloves? Throw in elbows, knees and kicks and a boxer could get worked on his feet.
MMA fighters train straight boxing, boxers don't train jiu jitsu, wrestling, muay thai etc.
The reality is that while an MMA fighter would get worked in a boxing match the majority of the time, they would stand a better shot than a boxer going into an MMA match.
Those are only the numbers disclosed to the commission. You are a fool if you take those numbers as the be all and end all.
All the top fighters have PPV bonuses and beyond the fight of the night, sub of the night and KO of the night other bonuses are also handed out to fighters.
No, the top MMA guys aren't making as much as the top guys in boxing, but that is what happens when you have a legit undercard and a sport that is really in its infancy in the mainstream.
