Roach has a bad management team. They have been putting him in dangerous matchup after dangerous matchup. The last 3 are all knockout artists - Tank, Cruz, and now Zepeda. The last two are very active in the ring. Roach's management team is going to contribute to his very short career at the elite level. While I'm hoping to be wrong, I believe Roach is going to be a shot fighter very quickly.
Deontay has finally learned to use an effective power jab and ability to land targeted shots. If only his previous trainers taught him how to box then..... instead of taking his money (and teaching him nothing).
The funniest thing to me were the people that thought Thurman had any chance at all
Thurman had a puncher's chance. I thought his road to victory would be a knockout. I couldn't see him winning on points. Thurman is pretty accomplished in his career to ignore some of his accolades. But to see him in the ring against Fundora, showed how much he was at a disadvantage. He was slow, he wasn't elusive, and he couldn't touch Fundora enough.
TBH, while Fundora is a problem in the ring, I still question his chin. I believe the right opponent can knock him out. Also. Mind you he doesn't wear glasses in the ring. I have a feeling that if you tap his jaw just right, that he'll have all sorts a vision problems in that fight.
I respectfully disagree. I thought the stoppage was excellent. Keith was about to be very severely hurt. The writing was on the wall
Real Men Can Admit When They're Wrong: I had a chance to watch the full fight. I still think the ref could have let the fight continue, but I am okay with the stoppage. Thurman took a lot of damage in a short amount of time. He wasn't moving from side to side enough, he was slow, and he got hit too much. While, a fight could change, I didn't see it working in Thurman's favor. His corner gave bad advice. They were giving him advice like he could win on points. He only had a puncher's chance - a chance for a knockout only.
I see that Harvey Dock was the referee. I didn't watch the fight yet, but why do I feel that the fix was in. No one in their right mind should be okay with Dock being their referee in a high profile fight. He's the second coming of Kenny Baseless (Bayless). He's corrupt and allegedly interferes with fights IMHO.
You know that Hitchins would have schooled Duarte right? These things happen and these ****** IBF rules will not help either.
Just be thankful that a real warrior in Hiraoka still is fighting even though his handlers failed him and he basically was making weight on a 18 hours flight and has zero time to adjust to the timezone.
All of this as a mandatory every other fighter would 100 percent have pulled out.
I wasn't convinced of this. Duarte had a puncher's chance. Hutchins apparently didn't want to risk getting knocked out
Most people like to see knockouts and action fights. Shakur fights Olympic style. He is incredibly good at it. The majority of fans are put to sleep by it. It is pro boxing, not amateur. If Shakur ever wants to be seen as a great and make big money he will have to learn to stop guys along with the defense.
I mean he will always have a tiny group of fans who heap praise on him for never getting hit and taking no chances that could result in him stopping his opponent. But he will go down as boring and most will never care about him.
If you believe that Shakur fights Olympic Style, you don't know boxing either. I'd hate to hear what you thought of Ali, Sugar Ray Leonard, Floyd, etc..
They definitely did not fight Olympic Style. Sometimes they were able to knockout their opponents, sometimes they were not. I don't know if you (fake) fans realize this, but at the elite level not every fight is going to end in a knockout.
No answer like I expected. I was bored by the 8. No changes on either guy.
Mason, Keyshawn, Sho sho, Ennis, they're all entertaining. No Jab, step back, jab, Step back. Call it Master piece. Just go watch Fencing.
Just what I expected. You're a short attention span fan. You get turned on by knockouts. All of the guys that you mentioned have yet to fight anyone of merit.
That would be a big money fight. Coming with a rehydration clause, Benn won't take that fight - not right now. Shakur will give him a boxing lesson. Benn isn't going to risk his earning power, overseas, by taking a sure loss against Shakur. He'll seek an easier big named opponent instead.
You let me know how do you beat a person who only jabs and steps back all night? Are you literaly going to run after him? If you go forward he catches you with the jab or he steps back, rince and repeat for 12 rounds.
You let me know what fight did you watch (and that's assuming you watched the fight).
Next, you let me know who is must watch these days? I could use some insight into what boxing styles that you value.
I could also use a laugh !!!!
No matter who the trainer is. They will not beat Shakur because he never engages. Eddie Reynoso couldn't beat him with Valdez.
Perhaps you misunderstood me. I agree, Teofimo can't beat Shakur. I'm saying if Teofimo is going to go forward with his career, he may want to replace his dad - he's never going to face Shakur again. He made no case for the public to see a rematch.
And if you are suggesting that Shakur didn't engage, you're a straight hater.
Take nothing away from Teofimo, he comes to fight. But Shakur is just better. People say that Teo steps up when he is the underdog. He should have been the favorite over a smaller/fading Loma and an overrated Josh Taylor. He was rightfully the underdog against Shakur. Shakur is too skilled.
Side note: Will we go back to talks of, "It's time to replace Teofimo Sr as the lead trainer?". It's time. He's not good enough to prepare Teofimo for the very best at the elite level.
Some judges in boxing need to be investigated. Lets start with the ones from Pitbull vs Roach and Oshaquie Vs Fulton judges. Even though it did not matter in the Foster fight but these judges giving rounds to Fulton are a joke. Easy 120-108 no way Fulton won 1 round maybe maybe if you in love with him you can give him 1 round but even that is a gift.
Roach was straight out robbed. The Tank fight was close but he should of won in my opinion (but not a clear robbery) but this one with Pitbull was way easier to score first half was completely even with a slight edge for Cruz due to the knockdown but the second half was all Roach and every round easy to score. He outfought and outboxed Cruz. Cruz turned into Haney avoiding to fight and clinching every 5 seconds, plus low blows all night.
Again that was not hard to score this was kind of competitive in the first half but clear win for Roach.
All 3 judges gave the 12th to Cruz. Impossible! If Roach would have rightfully been awarded the 12th, he would have won on two of the judges' scorecards. The judge that scored the fight 115-111 for Cruz should be banned/suspended indefinitely.
It's unfair what they have done to Roach. He fought and beat two lions back to back, to only have a draw to show for both bouts. It's unfair for him to be forced to face both lions to avenge his robberies. These types of fights take a lot out of a fighter. The promotions do not face the risks that their boxers face.....They only reap the rewards.
I was wrong about this fight. When this fight was announced I thought that Norman was going to destroy Haney. But things that stood out to me at the weigh-in: Haney looked bigger, he looked great physically, and he didn't stutter when he spoke. I thought that Haney was showing signs of being punch drunk even before the Ryan Garcia fight. His time away, and his reintroduction back to the ring against Ramirez, proved helpful. Haney made Norman look like an amateur.
Crawford VS Canelo II is the smartest big money fight that Crawford should take. This fight will also be the most electrifying.
If Boots and Ortiz faces each other soon, Crawford should consider facing the winner....and that's if he beats Canelo.
Outside of those two fight and maybe one against Charlo, Crawford should retire.
I say the same thing. Floyd is undefeated, but he's not in my top 10. He's hurt himself after De La Hoya going forward. He handpicked his opponents from after that fight til he retired. He won't even give Pacquiao a rematch to prove the first victory wasn't a fluke. He doesn't have many exciting fights at all. This is partially due to him being in a skill class of his own, but this is also due to not taking on the biggest challenges when they initially presented themselves. I have fighters like Gatti ranked higher than Mayweather....and that really shouldn't be the case....but it is. Gatti had multiple fights of the year. Floyd has ZERO.
Roy Jones Jr is another fighter that could have easily made my top 10 (if not top 5) of all time, but is not. He proved to not have what the greats have - which is heart. When he was in his prime, he didn't fight Benn, Calzaghe, McClellan, or give Hopkins a rematch early on when he should have. And when he finally fought Calzaghe, even though he was a shell of what he once was, he didn't put Calzaghe away when he could have. Instead, he fought embarrassingly to a decision loss where Calzaghe could have turned the tables and ko'd, Jones but didn't out of respect for the fallen legend. Also, Jones had Tarver reeling in fight 3, but lost his heart in that fight. I was perfectly ok with his ko losses against Tarver (in fight 2) and Johnson, because those things happen in boxing. I had a problem with his heart disappearing in situations it should have been present. All of the fighters that make top 10 lists, have heart. Where was Jones' and Mayweather's hearts?
