Rising above the circus
stop trolling. what ''juvenile'' acts? you mean being a convicted rapist like Tyson?
Everything you illustrated for what Floyd ''should'' have done he has ALREADY DONE for 20 years! he and RJJ represented the USA in the Olympics and comes from the Mayweather pedigree...
trolls.. just say what you really want to say...
It's called selling the fight.
You think he's actually not training and eating junk food 24/7?
It's an act, and it's so obvious to anyone with a brain.
The legacy Mayweather has created for himself is everything to him. He would not risk tarnishing that. The one thing Mayweather cares about more than money is what gave and continues to give him that money - his image as one of the best to ever lace em up and undefeated within the sport he helped shape for our era.
I don't really like the guy, but damn, pay the man some respect, he's not gonna allow himself to get blown out by a 0-0 MMA fighter in any circumstance. :pat:
Floyd is undeniably where he is because of over two decades of incredible skill and dedication. But for THIS battle (which was the subject of the Thread), he has done the sport no favors with his publicity stunts. While they are clearly supposed to be "selling the fight" it simultaneously denigrates an amazing sport. Because...instead of rising above The McGregor Circus and demonstrating the dedication and discipline that put him where he is, Floyd chose to quite possibly close a remarkable career by behaving like part of the Sideshow.
I think if Floyd TRULY cared about the sport that made him rich, instead of just the cash...he would have either turned down McGregor's bait...or had the "decency" and integrity to train seriously. Like a champion. So he could do boxing proud by showing an arrogant, low-life upstart that he grossly underestimated the skill, stamina, heart and intelligence that make the sport great. Instead, Floyd's lackadaisical attitude, juvenile antics and circus training camp may ultimately result in that against-all-odds whooping that I genuinely hope does not come to pass. Because if it does, Money will have almost singlehandedly dishonored the "trade" that put him where he is.
Arriving with a bag full of money that you throw around like garbage is not juvenile?! And that is only one of his numerous pre-fight stunts that belong more in the WWF. My point was not referring to what he has done for the past 20 years. That is obvious. The comment was related SPECIFICALLY to this fight. And how a possible loss (however distant that may be) may affect boxing as a sport. In this instance, AND THIS INSTANCE ALONE, Money has done the sport a disservice by his half-hearted training schedule and childish publicity stunts. Which would make a surprise loss all the more damaging to boxing. Hope that clears it up...
If we’re being totally honest, he lost to Jack Caterall in their first fight as well. The guy has been high on the smell of his own farts for at least the last three years. I don’t know how on earth he believed he could face any of the upper echelon fighters at 147. Josh 2.0 was a figment of his delusional imagination - just like the victory he was so certain he deserved last night.
Boxing “fans” who diss exceptional fighters like Boots because of their “shallow resume” are simply idiots. It not only shows they are incapable of recognizing a true standout talent…they don’t even understand the senseless and debilitating Promoter/Network politics that make it hard to BUILD a decent resume in the first place.
Who is Boots supposed to have beaten thus far, to get these armchair critics’ respect? Who has he ducked? As anyone not carrying a white cane and being led by a Labrador can see…the man has incredible footwork, great hand speed, major power in both hands, insane upper-body / head movement, serious counter-punching skills when moving backwards…and he’s exciting to watch. Maybe he can’t ride a unicycle and juggle…but hey…give him time.
Whyte is a total palooka. Always was, probably always will be. What makes him especially annoying though are his delusional Broneresque / Teofimoesque / Khanesque claims of conspiracy and bias. He got the best payday of his career and the one shot he has been pleading for…only to embarrass himself, as most serious fight fans knew he would.
If his payday was proportional to the entertainment value and “thrill” he was supposed to deliver in the ring, he should have walked away (or got dragged away) with a fiver. What a clown. Only an arena full of enthusiastic cheering managed to elevate the energy of that fight above an ECG flatline.
As for claims that Fury’s victory cements his place as one of the GOATs…those individuals need to get back on their meds. I only hope he comes out of retirement to face Usyk who, despite his “tiny” physique…will almost certainly school a man whose greatest attributes are his sheer size and awkwardness. As the gallery of loud-mouthed, mediocre clowns grows each year, boxing is increasingly heading the way of the WWE.
AJ is clearly not the best so there goes Haye's theory right out of the window. The best doesn't lose to Andy Ruiz and fight him scared for his life in a rematch.
What convinced me of AJ’s supreme mediocrity was watching him play pitty-pat with Parker in one of the most boring heavyweight title fights in the past decade.
Floyd has taught you "well" young Skywalker
It's amazing how you can hear Floyd talking through Gervonta - like he's Money's little ventriloquist dummy. Maybe he'll keep dodging Loma like Floyd did with Pacman, until he is 100% sure he's past his prime and beatable. But then, the same fear-driven, cherry-picking is right there in the Arum camp as well. The Marriaga fight was a joke that everyone was in on...and Salido would be too. As much as I admire Loma's astounding skills, if he wanted to truly impress...he should be facing Rigo at a catch weight. But politics and petty scheming is robbing fans of incredible, totally makeable match-ups. We have the talent out there - in so many divisions - for Hearns, Hagler, Duran, Leonard rotational blockbusters. If only cowardice and greed weren't such powerful motivators...
I really wanted the hyped version of Ryan to show up for a fight of that magnitude. But man, he looked out of his league from the opening bell. Apart from a few close-quarter flurries that had zero impact on Tank, Ryan was flat-footed, showed no head movement, hardly jabbed and aimed his celebrated hook way too high again and again and again... To top it all, he was amateurishly impatient - charging in like that idiot Rolly the moment he backed Tank up just a little. The craziest part is…Joe Goosen just kept feeding him baloney between rounds. So while Tank delivered the goods, Ryan let his PPV audience down, big time. Sorry to say…but after this performance, all the “hype job” Instagram Hero comments seem sadly true. He wrote a check with his mouth that his physical abilities couldn’t cash. No wonder Oscar and Joe didn’t show up to the post-fight Press Conference.
Tough pick
I’m a huge Loma fan. But he is pushing the lightweight envelope. This extremely talented, but loud-mouthed punk, however, has the bulk and power to easily move up a division or two. The only two opponents Loma needs to be concerned about are Lopez and Haney - because Lopez has the power and “catch and shoot” timing to land a haymaker more devastating than Linares...and Haney has the raw skill to really test Loma. Great fights, both of them.
Hearns a refreshing character in boxing unless you like the old school grouchy club that edit interviews or just don’t give them while telling the fans they won’t go out of there way to work with other outfits to get certain fights done we know who they are . :lol1:
The thing is I know something about this fight in fact I can guarantee A.J wins and as many predictions I get right on here I’ve never done that . And I know from what someone told me or addressed to me who knows Usyk better then anyone really so we’ll see . I got enough info that he said just enough not to give it away but not hard to figure out what he subliminally said to me .
From what I have seen and heard, Usyk is one of the least corruptible men in the sport. An honorable gent with courage, integrity, exceptional skill and - above all - humility. So unless someone spikes his water…he ain’t going down unless it’s fair and square. And frankly, I don’t believe AJ has the skills, speed, ring IQ or gas tank to do it…no matter what Robert Garcia scribbles on the blackboard.
Totally right about the no-lose for Rigo. And little glory for Loma. Had he moved down to a catch weight, maybe. But I think Arum realized precisely what you have pointed out. This is possibly the last big fight for Rigo, that can earn him the accolades he rightly deserves. Which is why he had to take the Top Rank offer of 130. Or lose out.
This is a great fight that no boxing fan should miss. The only way Spence loses is if he's affected by the 15 month layoff. Would I have preferred this to have taken place before Spence's life altering car accident? Of course but Bud was hiding behind Arum's skirt at the time. Either way it's must see TV. I've already pre-ordered the event on the Paramount app.
Bud wasn’t hiding behind Arum’s skirt. He happened to be on “the wrong side of Al Street”. So he was being punished. Ask Uncle Leonard.
Khan is possibly the g.o.a.t
With so many jerks like Billy Joe Saunders and Adrien Broner infesting the sport, there was a time that I figured it was impossible to find the Undisputed Shmuck of the World. But Khan takes it, without question. I just hope Pac laughs and walks away, as he should.
For a guy with so much “self confidence” I don’t see Mikey ever agreeing to fight Spence or Bud. So if he DOES beat Loma...using the same reasoning behind this article’s headline, he should get no credit for beating a smaller guy.
This circus fight was inevitable.
The planet just ain't big enough for two egos of that size. There can be only one.
If there's one thing McGregor has achieved without a doubt...without throwing a single punch...he has managed to make a narcissistic, arrogant, excess-addicted jerk seem like a total gentleman by comparison. Quite an achievement. I am truly astounded that anyone could make Floyd seem like a class act.
Maybe Sergio’s hatred of biased, belittling commentators is one of the things that makes him the finest commentator out there - bar none. From The Contender days, Sergio always struck me as a real standup guy - with integrity, intelligence and heart. It’s nice to see him once again being brutally honest, regardless of what his detractors may think.
Undisputed
The Undisputed Biggest Jerk in Boxing...Gervonta Davis. Sloppy, undisciplined, arrogant and stupid. But with enough raw power to compensate for those failings...till now. I shudder to think what will happen to this clown when he decides to move up, and comes face to face with Mikey Garcia, Terence Crawford, Linares, Loma etc..
It seems Tank has learnt from his mentor Floyd about the most effective way to handle your most credible threats - call them out when they are either past (Pac) or before their prime (Canelo).
Once again, Fantastic Mr. Fox reveals what he values most. Dollar-wise, he’s probably right. Which fight true boxing fans would rather see…totally wrong.
One thing I can say about Errol Spence for certain. i can tell by his character that when he gets his ass whipped on the 29th, he'll never, ever make excuses. He'll never say 1) his costume was too heavy, 2)Bud's body had oil on it, 3) the referee was against him, 4) Derrick James spiked his water bottle, 5) Bud's gloves had egg weights in it, 6) Bud hit with an open glove to make his reach longer, 7) Bud removed padding from his gloves. 8) somebody did a JuJu on his ass, 9) he has evidence of cheating that never gets shown, 10) it's snakes in the grass, 11) Bud was leaning om him with all his weight to make him tired, or none of that Donald Trump-like crybaby, never accept defeat, make up a bunch of lies and excuses BS that Deontay Wilder pulled when he got his ass handed to him twice by Fury. No zero-class, lame ass sportsmanship on the part of Errol, because Errol is a real man, not a baby. That's why on July 29th, I fully expect Errol to man up and wear that asswhipping like a tight t-shirt
Both of these men are men of character. That’s one of the main reasons (besides their superb individual skill sets) that real fight fans are so amped for the 29th. I, personally, am sick to death of the loud-mouthed, social media hype-chasing chumps who have tainted this sport: “little boys” of poor character who beat up civilians, abuse their partners, get bust carrying concealed weapons (because they got to be gangsta) etc..
Real men of character - like Errol and Bud - have defined this sport for well over 50 years. In this sense, both are “old school” champs. Let’s just hope that crooked judging doesn’t taint what could easily be the fight of the year.
Weisfeld is increasingly proving that he is either:
a) desperately in need of an eye test
b) desperately in need of a brain scan
c) desperately in need of money
While Benavidez clearly won the fight and dominated the second half, Steve’s scores for the first six rounds are absolutely ludicrous. He needs to be put on the porch beside Adelaide Bird.
As a real fan of both Loma and Rigo...with no personal axe to grind either way...there is only glaring truth to consider: if Loma is so concerned about having his potential victory undermined by the two division difference, nothing on earth prevented him from meeting Rigo at 126. Except maybe Uncle Bob.
While I think Loma’s incredible skills are undeniable, if he tries clowning around and showboating like he did with Marriaga, against Rigo...he is in for a nasty surprise.
