Im sorry i cant take anything these sanctioning bodies decide seriously. Remember the WBA belt reduction plan? They are in a state of panic not because they worry about the betterment of boxing or the fighters but because they are worried they won’t have a job.
For what ifs worth I like the Zuffa model. Do I trust the people running it? Or course not. Are they going to try to screw the fighters? Absolutely. However athletes have agency, I don’t pity an athlete that made an informed decision and with things being the way they are these days you can’t help but feel these guys are more informed than ever.
Bottom line is it doesn’t affect us as fans and it’s probably the path to a better overall product. The past few weeks in boxing has shown us things are kind of off the rails anyway. When a kickboxer nearly beats the heavyweight champion of the world, when the second highest paid fighter is a YouTuber it’s obvious something needs to be done. Besides while it’s not the same thing look at Mosfits boxing. They have their own gimmicks and titles and appear to be doing quite well for themselves
