He is a "Monster." Inoue is "the Mosquito," landed 11 punches a round at 122. Embarrassing. Barrera and Morales landed 300+ at that weight...Both those guys would have destroyed Inoue and Nakatani. Glorified sparring session. At least Benavidez brings it, comes to fight, to get guys out of there.
Benavidez does not have one punch power but he beats guys down because the shots you don't see because of his speed are the ones that do the damage, as we just saw.
Both guys are too fat at this weight. Benavidez looks much better because of his skills, but it's not Usyk or Holyfield in front of him; it's a fat, very slow guy. He needs to stay at 175 where his skills are more profound and he's faster. I like him a lot, great fighter but not a heavyweight, which is what they are tonight.
I had the fight 114-114, 6-6. Inoue was not busy enough, Nakatani lost last two rounds, bothered by cut. Several early rounds could have gone either way...
The fight is closer than these liquored up Euro announcers think. They have no data, punch stats, an actual person scoring. Lame. Straight lead right is there for Inoue, hook for Nakatani
Pretty much an even fight through 6, both guys too tentative, Nakatani doing a good job with lead foot position. Announcers are horrible Euros, as usual.
Nothing really to take away from this fight. Ryan looked better than his last fight, but what does one expect? He was in there with "Heavy Bag" Barrios, who barely threw punches, had no head or lateral movement and was content to just block punches with a high guard and eat the ones he could not, which allowed Garcia to circle, land and win every round but also to continue the bad habits that led to his demise against better fighters.
The DAZN announcers are horrible, as are the no-name judges. That was a 117- 111 fight, as one judge had it, yet they made it seem like it was super close, lame.
alvarez hit chavez jr with every thing he had for 12 rounds chavez never blinked
That is a good point. His nickname should be "heavy bag." It also fits because he was overweight so often. All kidding aside, you're larger point is correct. Canelo is no big puncher at 160 or above, unless he is fighting little guys not named Mayweather. Canelo KOs tomato cans; good fighters are another story, as the record shows.
Benavidez may be the best guy at 168 AND 175, when he moves up (and he will) . He's a huge guy, with power in both hands, knows how to fight tall and mix it up on inside with vicious hooks. Canelo wants nothing to do with him, for all those reasons.
JCChavez Jr. was doing fine before quitting vs Jacobs. If Julito was so bad why didn´t Jacobs destroy him in 1 round??
Coke numbs your face so it took 5 rounds for it to wear off, at which point he cried about his nose hurting and quit. Lol.
Pretty clear Loma is going to use his excellent foot work to try and avoid Lopez's big shots early, tire him out and do what he does later in fights, frustrate and cruise to UD or stop him. The kid can punch and that gives him a legit shot but he is not going to win a decision, as if it goes that far Loma will have figured out how to avoid big shots with movement and counter.
Davis has solid skills but he is too small to handle the power of Lopez or the skill of Loma, not to mention several other top 135 guys that could take his shots and potentially get him out of there. The most concerning aspect of this fight was how many clean shots he took from a faded and badly injured fighter. As with Loma, better option is to go down in weight. He needs to develop the discipline to cut weight, being that he's young and should not be eating his way out of weight classes already. It's not going to end well if they put him in with top guys in 2020.
That Rocky Fielding guy who rolled over the first time Canelo touched his body BEAT Ryder, who is just another Hearn British stiff. Canelo has to beat the three killer Bs to he taken seriously. Do not see that happening.
Mikey is a great fighter but his body does not carry 147 well. He simply is not big enough and didn't take the time to grow into it with muscle etc. He's heavy right now, which is real reason he is not going back to 140. Moreover, he picked this fight because Jessie does not bang like Spence, have that great hook like Danny G, or apply pressure like Porter. He needs to fight this one, get back in 140 shape and take on Ramirez.
Benavidez is really good and most likely the best guy at 168, definitely the biggest threat to Canelo because he throws a lot, has good hand speed and some pop and seems able to take a good shot. I actually think his punch output could lead to him getting a decision against Canelo, hard as that seems to be. The questions I have about him is can he endure shots from a big puncher, as his defense is shaky at best, not much head movement or foot speed. He is only going to get better and it may not be a popular point of view, but if Canelo is not going to duck him he would be smart to make the fight sooner rather than later before Benavidez wipes out the rest of the guys.
Don't know if anybody else noted this, but I put 1k on Bivol because Canelo was at Valdez fight hanging out in a huge crowd a WEEK before his own fight, and here ge says he was in Greece vacationing less than a month before Bivil fight (GGG fought on April 9th). I'm going to take GGG in this fight if I can get decent odds. No one is talking about what those extra 8 pounds may do for him...
I'm ambivalent about Canelo these days. He obviously is skilled and can fight but since the DAZN contract he has lost some shine. Boring fights against average competition, for the most part. Jacobs is a quality guy but that was a slow fight, 7-5, much closer than it should have been. If he really wanted to show some sack he would be talking Benavidez and Beterbiev, not Quigley...
Anyone who thinks GGG is not way better than the Euro bums Canelo was fighting before Bivol is misguided. Canelo should win the fight but I'm not sure he will. It depends on how seriously he trains and how strong G will be at 168. As for his age, G has not been in a lot of wars and has not really fought that often, so comparing him to other fighters is not really valid. That 8 pounds is going to make a huge difference, one way or another...
Canelo better stay away from Benavidez, unless he wants to get rag-dolled and beat down in a few rounds by a dude who is tall, long, fast, takes a good shot, can bang and will enter the ring at 185+. G looked old, slow and pudgy, but Canelo was tentative and out of shape himself and he doesn't really have power at those upper weights, obviously. Euro bums do not count as champions...
He made 160 for that fight, so if he didn't train for that one, which fight DID he train for? No offense because I'm not one of these idiots on here just talking **** from my couch, but defending Jr. when there are so many great fighters who deserve to be celebrated seems like an odd choice. What are his signature wins and do they really measure up with the top 1000 all-time great fighters? Obviously, no.
What is missing is that 8 years ago Martinez exposed the real issue, the lack of speed, movement, combination punching etc. that, along with outside ring issues and lack of discipline, prevented him from competing with high level opponents. Sure, he landed a single good shot that rocked Martinez in 12th, after he was exhausted from beating Jr. down for 11+ rounds. I mean, it was before the Martinez fight since he stopped anyone and that was a long, long time ago. He never really had the skills to compete with top guys is the point.
Chavez was way too heavy, check out corner after round 2; he was already gassed, and when Jacob's started teeing off on him for a few rounds, he looked for a way out so he did not have to take the beating he knew was coming. Come on, quit over a broken nose? Every fighter deals with a broken nose at some point. Dude is pathetic. Props to Jacobs for even going through with fight against a dude at 195, of course it took him a few rounds to adjust to the weight but he also realized after round 2 that jr was finished.
Judges are watching the fight, not listening to DAZN's fan boys who didn't even comment on head butt that cut Canelo because they were spinning their own narrative of fight. 8-4 was a reasonable card if you watched fight. Not much went down in first 3 rounds and G easily could have won 9-12; that is why 2 judges had it 7-5. I thought 8-4 was about right, 116-112.
