when is mcgreggor up from his UFC contract?
that will tell you if this is possible or not.
Two fights left on his UFC contract. I've heard Mcgregor say in interviews that he renegotiates after every fight so anything is possible. Odds are good the LW UFC champ Oliveira is holding out for the McGregor fight / payday whether it makes makes sense or not. If Conor wins that belt back everything changes including his contract & leverage. Last time he fought Mayweather he was still the LW / FW champ. Oliveira is far and away the best stylistic matchup for McGregor to win the belt back IMO.
Wouldn't be surprised if they go the exhibition route this time. If Floyd takes it easy on McGregor (again) he can justify a 3rd fight based on public reaction since there won't be an official winner or loser depending on KO / TKO contract stipulations, just social media deciding who they thought won or lost. Make it 8 rounds and McGregor can have an okay showing without the pressure & cardio needed for 12 rounds like last time. Just my 2 cents but Dana White pulled the exact same "It's not happening card" last time after FightHype reported negotiations in 2017. Once it was signed Dana talked about how easy negotiations were with TMT, assuming the same thing happens this time.
I don't see the appeal of this fight. The first time around both were riding very high popularity and each respective sports biggest stars met each other.
Now not so much and I don't hear anyone wanting to see this.
People would flock to see Pac/Floyd 2 because Pac is the emotional favorite for many and the shoulder excuse.
Risk / reward balance I guess. Pac has more relevant boxing wins recently and presents a much bigger risk. If Conor wins the UFC LW belt back in dominating fashion McGregor's hype and stock will be right back to where it used to be before their 1st bout and Mayweather knows what to expect. Pac is boxing a YouTuber sometime soon in an exhibition bout so god knows they will meet again when Mayweather decides to pull the trigger when the time is right.
A lot has to fall into place first with McGregor though. His recent skid isn't doing him any favors without some hype after a big UFC win and or / title.
Fixed fight, rahman is the friend of the paul bros he helped prepare him the fight will go the distance and paul will claim he shut the doubters up boxing a real boxer
Exactly, optics are the only thing that matters to Jake Paul's boxing career right now. Everything else is smoke and mirrors to gas himself up as he improves his average skillset.
Jake Paul has sparred with Rahman before. He takes calculated risks and must know how he stands against him already. Tommy Fury fought Anthony Taylor (MMA fighter & Jake Paul's regular sparring partner) on the undercard of Woodley / Paul's first fight and won by boring decision. Anthony Taylor is awful at boxing so I'm guessing Paul's team felt comfortable enough to setup that Fury fight that never materialized.
Also Rahman is not even on the same universe skill wise as his father. Name value and a pro record is enough for Jake Paul I suppose.
