Honestly, was like Comical Ali denying the American Tanks were coming into Baghdad.
The pattern of the fight always seemed more likely that Smith would find that killshot than Matias.
Matias was gonna have to outlast Smith there and hope he gassed. Which with that kind of pressure was not out of the question.
As early as round 2 we had the assessment that Matias had for more power and strength. Even as Smith was tying him up and walking Matias across the ring.
off the top of my head I can't think of a worse called fight.
It was a shame too because if you called that like you see it. It was Gatti/Wardesque. They did the promotion a huge disservice.
And the sad part is that 90% of people watching don't really know what they're watching and get easily influenced by commentary. I was watching with 3 others who are casuals at best and they thought Matias was about to knock Smith out just because of the commentary.
At first I was concerned Smith was getting dragged into the wrong fight but by round 4 I was telling those with me that he's Matias is taking the worst of what's being dished out and the commentary team are talking nonsense. Cue the 5th round stoppage.
I don't know if they're purposely biased or clueless. Whichever they are, it means they shouldn't be doing the job. I don't even mind if they don't wanna be impartial on who they support, just as I don't expect Adam Smith not to support those he's closer to, but at least be a professional and tell the truth about what's happening during the fight.
Matias was cleared. READ:
Level Detected: Matías's A-sample contained 0.085 nanograms per milliliter (ng/ml) of Ostarine.
Thresholds:
WADA treats any detectable amount as a violation (a non-threshold substance).
The New York State Athletic Commission (NYSAC), along with other major jurisdictions like Nevada and California, uses a threshold of 0.1 ng/ml.
Outcome: The NYSAC ruled the detected concentration was below their reportable threshold, allowing his scheduled January 2026 title defense against Dalton Smith to proceed. The WBC conducted its own investigation and declared Matías "not guilty" of intentionally consuming PEDs, attributing the finding to supplement contamination
With the NYSACs dodgy rules lol
Anyway... JUSTICE

Exactly, the chance of Matías was Smith stamina gassed, but Smith was landing bombs since round 1, so I looked Matías felt the power and was hurt with those shots.
Smith is a strong guy.
The plan was attack and being ofensive, they work the K.O, and showed no respect for Matías pressure and power.
Smith has heavy hands.
I think his style is a mix of Frampton and Mikey García.
I wasn't shocked when it happened, both commentators should be utterly ashamed of themselves though as not once did they comment on matias taking hard head shots, you could see he was being troubled, just weird commentary all fight imho.
That Corey fella might as well got in the ring and blew matias the way he was taking about him, especially during the ring walks, he said Smith would quit before round 10 and was bigging up matias during smiths ring walk, was utterly bizzare. He sucks.

Not sure why the commentators thought that Smith BY NECESSITY couldn't take on Matias at his own game. Very happy with this one, being a Sheffield man - bring on Adam Azim (on second thoughts, make him fookin sweat)
Shalom is gonna take it slow with Azim because he's still relatively young. Azim will be fighting Lemos next.
Wow... he never gave up.. .. could the ref have given Matias a chance to continue?
I loved how Dalton Smith pretty much resorted to plan B (have to go all out and throw kitchen sink) from round 3 onwards... and it eventually worked. . Cracker
He wobbled to his knees, then staggered back when he got up. This was not an early stoppage.

Azim Smith will all ready be big as it has been talked about for a few years. But if Azim can get a title at 140 this year it makes that fight even bigger
I kept seeing people saying Smith couldn't punch? :nonono:
Great performance from Dalton, knocked the peds out of his cheating a$$. Hopefully we'll be hearing a whole lot less from that hypejob now.

Yeah they almost sounded patronising early in the fight when he was doing good work, like he was fighting way ahead of his ability.
Now, I didn't expect him to beat Matias at his own game in 5 rounds but it seems a lot thought Dalton Smith is just some domestic level British trier.
He humbled a few tonight
They defo thought he was Michael Jennings or some s.hit. Horrible, disrespectful job specifically by Marquez. Showed a lack of insight, respect, anf graciousness. Actually disrespected Matias who was clearly showing a lot of grit and toughness himself.
Calls on fights like that are just tedious.
Matias was hurt/ buzzed a few times tonight. The commentators seemed to have an extremely biased take all night. Marquez seemed to see things almost solely in favour of the Puerto Rican fighters. It was annoying listening to the crappy commentary. Matias was bound to get KO'd badly with a style like his. Smith was a much sharper, faster and athletic fighter. Matias' strength is his toughness. He's a cracked egg now though. Even in some of his recent fights he seemed to get buzzed occasionally.
Marquez talked like there was only one fighter in the ring.
I think the best thing about the KO was he didnt rush it. He hurt Matias and knew it...but was still smart enough to step back for 2 seconds and wait for that one shot banger.

Smith is gonna be a hard fight for anyone.
He can box and move and pick shots from a distance if you stand off him..
Now we know he can have a real dog fight too and is tough. He can take a shot and he can crack.
That's what happens when you train a kid to be a well rounded fighter.
Exactly, he is a very dangerous fighter, he lands bombs pretty well, i know he could K.O Matías.
Of fact, Matías is Taylormade for Smith, too Open and 0 defense.
Smith was hurting Matías since the first round
I'd say the comms influenced you.
They were talking about Smith like he was a bum.
He's getting punished they said. At the same time Matias was getting his eyes closed himself. Was fighting square on and was liable to get f.ucked up himself.

Smith is a very good boxer puncher, he is strong and has good skills, and heavy hands
He has brutal K.Os wins.
Today he showed heart and chin, determination.

Smith is a very good fighter.
He has heavy hands, I don't how people see this fight.
But Smith has a great K.Os.wins, with brutal shots.
I saw Smith the first time.against José Zepeda, he was old but he is a tough guy and Smith destroyed him with a brutal body shot. I was a fan of Zepeda because he was from my city, but i like what i see in Smith.
Smith is a strong guy. You need super fast hands and feet, any other guys without a Lot of skills Will have much troubles against him. He lands bombs, good left hand and good body work.
Matías looked bad since first round he felt the power, Smith was moving him with bombs.
And Smith has skills and good counter skills.
So, he can land bombs...
Brutal K.O.
Matías was talking a Lot, Smith was humble, before and after the win.
Props to the ref, good stoppage. Matias was done they just showed a different angle into Matias eyes, he was done. Congrats to Smith, I saw him beat Chon Zepeda and chalked to Zepeda being done.
