RIP Ricky Hatton

Has it been confirmed that he unalived himself or overdosed? Seems to be what people are saying. If so, that's tremendously sad. I think that Pacquiao ko gave him some pretty serious brain damage. He should have hung them up after that one. RIP Ricky Hatton.

I'm very sorry to hear this. He brought a very raucous and boisterous crowd here when he took on Mayweather. I remember quite vividly early on Hatton caught Mayweather with some good shots. It really saddens me that someone who can make so many people excited can look down on his own life. Very few fighters these days have the bravery and determination of the great Ricky Hatton. It sucks. But Ricky I’m sure had issues of self-worth and doubts. He wore his heart on his sleeve and I remember the heart-wrenching post-fight interview he had when he lost in his comeback against Senchenko. The guy was in tears and in an almost self-revealing gesture, he answers the question from the reporter but then starts muttering, “I’m NOT a failure…I’m not a failure.” and his voice starts to falter and he is reduced to tears. I think it ate him up more than we’ll ever know how he lost against Floyd and Pacquiao and perhaps internally placed a lot of doubt in himself. He shouldn’t have (if he did). Pacquiao and Floyd beat 90% of all their opponents, and despite losing, no one EVER said, “Man, Hatton didn’t even try.”

RIP Ricky Hatton. You are right up there when I got into the sport. I'll never forget watching you dismantle Kostya Tszyu, then I downloaded the fight to burn to a CD-R that I could play on a DVD player. I showed my father the fight on that DVD who was a diehard boxing fan though we didn't subscribe to Showtime and he was in awe at the atmosphere of the fight and the result.

You know you really like a fighter when you're legitimately upset that he lost. I remember how much I hated seeing him go down against Pac and Mayweather. And how happy I was during his big wins. True - and also I find that sometimes you don't even realize how much you actually care about fighters you think you dislike until the moment they get hurt in a fight and you're quietly rooting for them to hang-on; or when they're gone.

I distinctly remember this when it first aired. Hatton had the crowd eating out of the palm of his hand. That moment at 14:00 of the video is one of my absolute favorite moments in all of boxing. Hatton on the mic: “Who have you come to see?!” Crowd: *Shouts* Hatton: “Floyd?!” Crowd: “NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!” Hatton: “Me?!” Crowd: “YEEAAAAAAAHHHH!!!” Hatton: “Who’s taking the belts?!” Crowd: “YOU!!!!!” Hatton: “Let’s f00king have him!” And the crowd goes ballistic while trainer Billy Graham and promoter Oscar de la Hoya are laughing in the background relishing in the oozing charisma of Ricky. It’s a real bummer he’s gone. He was one of the people. It really was the most awesome moments I've ever seen in boxing. Better than any fight actually. It's pure love by the people for the gladiator hero. Only boxing could create this kind of magical moment. Ricky Hatton was the goat, Hopkins and Oscar never came close to creating this kind of magic.

The atmosphere are Hatton vs Mayweather was top 5 of all time. Vegas was jumping and the fans from overseas were unreal. Was one of those weekends where every little detail was being analyzed by the “experts”. I was laughing as they had Teddy Atlas analyzing the shoving between the two during the face off and then again at the weigh in. Like they actually meant anything. Seemed like a good guy. I’ll always remember him for bullying and beating a prime Kostya Tszyu. Never really stood a chance vs Mayweather. And adding Floyd Sr. As a trainer before the PAC fight was a huge mistake that got him KOed. But he was all heart and an effective brawler.

The greatest moment I ever saw in boxing was the Hatton army singing to Ricky Hatton at the weigh in before Mayweather. Spine tingling goosebumps stuff. Even Oscar and Hoplins were in awe of the love Ricky had from his fans, they never came close to Ricky in that department. Awful news... Hatton really was a working class down to earth hero who became an idol. Very sad indeed. RIP champ.

RIP. Came in to post this. Very sad news. I saw Ricky Hatton trending on X and just assumed it was something about the Manchester Derby, football match today, then saw found dead!
