There are similarities, aren't there? Of course, there are also differences.
Question is would Haney last as much as Broner's career did after getting debunked by Maidana?
Some posters seem to be intimating that Broner was "better" than Haney. With all due respect, I find this to be nonsense. There are some legit comparisons to be made:
1. Both guys started young.
2. Both guys claimed to be an heir apparent to Floyd.
3. Both guys had a real problem finding a weight class ultimately relying on fighting smaller guys for the most part, and not having success when moving up to a more natural weight class. Haney countered this with rehydration that is against the rules, according to some... I cannot verify the truth of this.
4. Both guys do come from a similar socio-economic... Haney was perhaps more protected? I do not know...
5. Both guys have natural talent.
Differences include
1. Haney is more motivated.
2. Haney appears to want more smoke based on whom he has fought. broner was an alphabet title collector.
3. Haney is a boxer Broner a boxer puncher. Haney has a great jab, Broner was a counter puncher.
Broner was not better than Haney. He had more power and a lot less defensive skill, a lot less workable jab, and perhaps a better chin.
Yeah, I guess there's only one Broner then, one of a kind.
Broner is really a great shiat talker and promoter... Ricardo Mayorga was another one... But if we look back on Floyd, for a good deal of his career he was also a heel, the villan, so to speak. I guess acknowledging that one sells fights this way is akin to saying "I lost 50 pounds, using drugs and surgery!" lol. But Haney could start to exploit that angle... "You wanna see me get Koed? Biatches:lol1:"
Even Ali was considered the bad guy for a lot of his career. Cosel always stuck by Ali, even while the rest of the establishment waited and hoped someone shut him down... the nerve of the guy not to want to kill people he had no beef with! Ali was just so magnificent as an individual that he turned people around.
But Broner does have that talent lol. The big difference being his skills never matched his bravado. Even Mayorga beat some decent and even great fighters... Broner never did.
They are pretty different all things considered.
Haney=no power even at 135 Broner= hit hard at 130-135
Haney=fast feet Broner=slow feet
Haney=questionable chin Broner=strong chin
Haney=not a draw Broner=was always a draw
- - Heinie at least has some brains.
Boner got passed up at birth on brains, prob a heritage thing.

Actually... Broner was a draw precisely because he lost his fights, and how magnificent he looked getting smacked around the ring after making such outlandish promises. People also like to see Haney lose, but not on the level of a true Heel like Broner.
In so far as both men have an appeal to our more base instincts, Broner was much better at exploiting it though I do think there is a market for those who want Ryan to finish the job with Haney... This sells fights, it was always the best thing Haney could do to sell a fight, sad as that may be.

Corey Spinks is a better comparison.
Stop.
Haney's 25 years old & has already been undisputed at 135, & fought a lot tougher talent than guys like Tank, so of course he's going to struggle & have close fights.
This type of talk is exactly why guys just fight soft touches until they get to 30 years old now.
No, not really.
I just correct you by letting you know 23 clinches in a 12 round fight that averages to less than twice per round is objectively not excessive.
It's not difficult but you seem to struggle mightily with it. Probably because you are legitimately retarded.
Not to interject myself but that made me laugh out loud in a public place.
"It has been reported that as a reigning champion, and considering that his cache is now better, Lopez will get a purse ranging from $3 million to $4 million. Jamaine, meanwhile, is expected to bag at least $1.5 million from this bout."
I dont think teo has much to complain about if the above info is correct
Only explanation I can think of to that is either it's not true or ESPN is willing to give away that kind of money. $1.5 million to an inactive fighter like Ortiz is not easy to believe, but still possible.
He talks about money on fights he feels are tough. Not stay-busy fights. Even then Martin and Ortiz were not exactly walk in the park fights.

ive heard teo talking about money plenty of times, he fought campa and martin on his comeback trail after getting waxed by kambo, hes priced himself out of fights even eddie got exasperated with him
"Promoter Eddie Hearn sounded off today, talking about Teofimo Lopez’s high money expectations for his fights, which he feels is causing him to be “benched” with no activity. He feels that the WBO light welterweight champion Teofimo (19-1, 13 KOs) has “unrealistic” expectations about what he should be getting for his fights, and that could ultimately hurt his career if he’s sitting and waiting on huge money to fall into his lap from his promoters"

Which is why people need to give props to Teofimo Lopez for taking ANY fight put in front of him in between big fights. You won't hear him talk about money. He takes such fights to keep himself active. No complaints. We didn't hear him complain about money when he fought Sandor Martin, Campa, Jamaine, did he?

I'd be curious to see a list of fights that Haney could take for his comeback fights.
I think the difference is Broner was still a draw even when he lost a fight and PBC was still willing to invest in him even on stay-busy fights. ($1 mil per fight, no complaints.) Who would invest in Haney for stay-busy fights?

No I don't.
Do you think that question was a good idea to post before you posted it? I bet you did, didn't you? :lol1:
