Honestly who didn't see that coming? Not sure where the talk about this being some kind of major upset when we all knew that Haney had some issues. All of those issues got exploited.
I thought Haney would box and win a unanimous decision by being smart. He instead engaged and he paid for it. I knew there was a good chance Garcia would hurt him but after the first round he seemed to get it together and stick to the plan before getting rocked again. I figured Haney had a 70% chance of winning and I think if you rewind it and Haney sticks to the plan in rounds 2-6 for the rest of the night he wins. However, Garcia caught him and he never recovered. That's boxing.
I was not expecting this to be one sided as tank vs garcia was. A year ago, i knew that ryan had zero chance against tank, that he would get knocked out and dominated. I thought haney would outpoint him, but we all knew haney had no power and his legs leave him as soon they get clipped. I would not be surprised if ryan got a stoppage vicyory or won via knockdowns, and that’s what happened. Ryan was also significantly larger than haney, and haney still managed to rock ryan, which speaks volume of ryan’s china chin.
So in the end, i’m not surprised what happened at all, I am simply a ryan garvia hater and want him to fail at the elite level everytime. He still failed here as devin is the champ at 140, not 143. Ryan will never be a world championship, this fight has effectively spelled his downfall. He can’t make 140 as he admitted, and 147 is filled with elite level talent like boots, ortiz, etc who’d stop him.
He might win a paper belt but that’s about it. He will never be a champion in his life.

I had Haney winning easy on points even without Gacias weird behavior.
Haney saw Garcia behavior as WEAKNESS, which gave him courage to take the fight to Garcia which ISNT Haneys way. He normally fights like a scared, paranoid schizophrenic.
That is what won the fight. Haneys incorrect assumptions.
Partly. Ryan had to fight a smart fight and he did. Haney is going to have to get someone real to teach him how to tighten up those fundamentals. He's never gonna have a great time dealing with speed either.
He had just one job. Don't get hit cleanly with the left hook and he didn't even do that one thing. He probably could have out scored Ryan if his dad had super-glued his right hand to the side of his head.
Too lazy to dig up my old posts, or they may not even be saved anymore, but before Ryan/Tank, the odd behavior and Ryan taking time off for personal issues, I said he could KO Haney. Sometime after the Linares fight and how he was getting tagged by JoJo Diaz.
Ryan fooled me thinking he was mental and I changed my pick. I thought Haney would run and hug his way to a boring win.
Only reason I picked Haney was because Garcia’s odd behaviors outside of the ring. I thought he lost the hunger but I thought wrong. That’s the only reason. Not because I believed Haney was the superior fighter or anything.
Had this fight happened two years ago, I would have picked Garcia without hesitation.
So only thing that really surprised me is how Ryan had everybody fooled lol.
I thought the same but Devin seemed to delude himself into thinking he is a big puncher and went right after Ryan at the opening bell, even in the rds Devin won which were the one's he didn't get dropped he was stalking Ryan on the move just waiting to set him up.
He should have been his usual pitty pat jab, run, grab self.
My theory is that they didn't believe Ryan couldn't fight on the back foot and wanted to push him back. While it is true to a degree, they didn't control the lead hand while attempting to push him back.
I wasn't surprised Garcia won, I was more surprised at how ill prepared Haney was at nullifying the left hook.
I think he didn't understand how much faster and quicker Ryan was than him in addition to the flaws he already had.
Haney had to fight a stupid fight, and he did.

They were 3-3 in the amateurs and there wasn't a lot to seperate them in their pro careers however Garcia seemed to have gone a bit mental and did have a bad loss to tank.
Haney was the favourite rightfully but Garcia winning shouldn't have been a "shock" to anyone as it was hardly Tyson vs Douglas
Not at all, I bet on Ryan by KO and was sick to my stomach lol. Ryan had all the physical advantages in terms of speed and power and Haney just just have the fire power..
When you have a fighter as physically gifted as Ryan it's going to need a fighter with special qualities to deal with that. Haney doesn't have any special qualities
And yeah sure Haney beat him 3 times in the Ammy but pro is very different.
You can hate on Ryan all you want but very few boxers are blessed with his power and speed.
Yes I was. I thought Haney would be able to outbox him. That first left hook changed the whole fight.
Like Tyson said- everyone has a plan until they get hit.
