I think his lack of defense will be his downfall and Canelo breaks him down and beats him in the 8-9th round. I also do not think he hits hard enough to bother Canelo. He was taking shots from Bivol and they did not seem to bother him, so I doubt Mugia will have much luck.
That's right, but wasn't there a backlash from that? Is this not him trying to do damage control perhaps? lol. Maybe I'm over thinking it.
He didn't care about the backslash, his main thing is not getting another L on his record. If benavidez was a Chinese he would have found a way for avoiding the fight. Look at the pressure the public has put in him, still no benavidez. The funny thing is that he has another mandatory SMW waiting for three years and he hasn't mention him. He went out of his way to choose a limited boxer, again.
He was the one declaring he will not fight Mexicans no more, benavidez was in the division he was moving in. And the proof is in the pudding.

I don't think Munguia has much of a chance. He will be hella active, but the activity will lead to a lot more counters for Canelo to drop on him. Canelo shouldn't have much trouble picking him apart.
The ONLY way I see Munguia winning this is if the activity is so high, similar to Bivol, that Canelo gets to room to breath and setup the counters because there will be too much going on. This in theory is how you're supposed to handle a counter puncher anyway. The moment you slow down and let them think, you're playing their game. Munguia has to be all over Canelo. Whether he hits hard enough to make Canelo think twice is another situation. Canelo has been in with punchers and barely moved.
Overall, this should be a nice action fight for the weekend and it's Canelo trying to shun the folks that say he doesn't fight Mexican boxers.

Not much but there is always the potential decline factor for Canelo now so you never know.
There's no decline in canelo's, he's a young 33yo that has never been in a shootout, the guy that fought bivol, is the same guy that fought Mayweather and Lara 10 years ago. He always look like crap when fighting a real challenge.
Only chance is for Munguia to fight at a very high pace from the start.
When Munguia is tired he can still force himself to throw and keep working.
When Canelo is tired he can hardly do anything these days. He basically comes to a standstill and can only throw single shots when you come at him. He even has trouble keeping both his hands up as you saw against Bivol.
But I am not expecting much from this fight. His team went through all the options and choose Munguia as the most favorable opponent for a reason.
But if this turns out to be the next cherrypick that goes wrong (i.e. Bivol) well, that would be something (funny) and also well deserved.
There's zero chance. He was chosen for that particular and very important trait, wild and inexperienced. Can't go wrong with that. What could potentially make it a fun fight is, how much punishment he can take.
Would not bet my house on it , but I think he does have a chance . Mainly because Canelo does not have that fire like he once did dude has been doing this a long long time 64 fights , professional fighter for like 18/19 years has already been at the top of the mountain .......Munguia is flawed but young and hungry ...
I think it’ll be more competitive than alot of people expect. Canelo will not match munguias pace, so if his power shots don’t discourage Jaime.. it’ll be a long night.

Mungy is YOUNG and HUNGRY. Hes also is a decent fighter. All are a tuff combination for an OLD Canelo. Canelo will have to earn this fight. I see a close decision in favor of Canelo. Most will say Mungy got robbed.
Everybody has a chance but his chances are slim. Munguia is too basic for Canelo. Unless Canelo gets really old
overnight, he’s going to have an easy time in there. It will be like a target practice with too much counter punching opportunities. Only thing Munguia brings to the table is youthful energy but that will only prolong the beating.
That would have not been a shame. Derevyanchenko has been unlucky not to win an alphabet belt somewhere. At his best, he was a very good fighter.
He was a tough son-of-a-gun.
