I hated reality shows.
And only watched the first few seasons.
But now I catch myself hooked on the re - runs.
Sucks Boxings " The Contender " didn't hit as much.
That format doesnt really work with boxing, it doesnt work with MMA now either.
It worked for the UFC at the time because MMA had a small talent pool and the UFC had a small roster with relatively few cards per year, so the success rate in terms of being able to use the show to build stars who would then have success in the UFC was pretty high. Nowadays with cards every weekend and like a thousand people on the roster they all just get lost in the shuffle, nobody cares.
That show is honestly probably the main thing that started the UFCs rise.
Used to be really good when it was still relevant and would frequently produce fighters who would go on to be a significant part of the UFC after.

Funny thing is.
Most times I prefer watching re-runs of The Ultimate Fighter more than the actual fights.

Goes both ways though.
I think most MMA fans that **** on boxing are MMA casuals. The hardcore fans tend to be more overall combat sports fans in my experience.
You make a good point and you might be right.
Boxing is a part of my life.
But I respect MMA.

But from conversations i've had with MMA fans.
They still try to shet on Boxing

Wow. Didn't know it went viral like that.
And ppl keep saying this will end non-boxers coming into boxing.
Ppl with those takes don't realize attention = money these days. And those ppl also don't realize no one thinks they are gonna be the guy on the wrong end of that clip. Ppl like money & are optimistic about their chances lol.
And thats gonna mean even more non-boxers coming to boxing. Legit all this attention boxing is getting could end up leading boxing to a resurgence to being among the tip top sports like it used to be.
I like the optimism and I hope you're right.
But alot of the views had to have come from the MMA fans.
I doubt many will convert.
I stopped looking at it as Boxing vs UFC.
They each have their own lane.
But from conversations i've had with MMA fans.
They still try to shet on Boxing

Helenius had weaker defence than Ngannou and got flattened. Wallin got brutalized. But Ngannou should retire??
Considering the additional attention these events can bring in I fucking wish they would do a better job with the overall events to make a better impression on anyone who might be tuning in looking to see what the fuss is about with boxing and could potentially become a full time fan if they like what they see. That Saudi card for instance could have been paced so much better with way less dead time.

Agreed!!
This is what people want from combat sports, big punches, big knockouts.
Apart from a few fans online nobody likes that running around shoe shining boxing.

Until a man who can't box gets seriously hurt or killed in the ring by a professional boxer.
That last Joshua shot was dangerous. Ngannou had so little defence against it that it was basically a free hit.
