He's not the best boxer around. Not the most charismatic. Not the most action packed fighter. Is a big part of it because he's not your stereotypical looking Mexican (red hair, freckles, fair skin)?
You mean that's all the difference why he's the face of boxing and the others are not? Not here to defend the Mexican superstar. You might as well defend the others who didn't even come close to becoming popular. Why is that?
He's the face of boxing because of the looks, the promotion he got behind him and the money well spent with media, and his fight with floyd put him on the world level, not because he demolished Tyson or broke Ali jaw. One thing for sure, if the media turn on him, is going to be hard for his team to put him back on, and he would have to fight real threats. I read he's fighting munguia, should have been benavidez but a least is not a journeyman from europe, and that choice make you think is munguia mexican?
He's not hated, I think that the non believers in his prowess, me included, are fvking with the believers because they're so blind and easy to pick. It's more about the fanboys that the guy. People that knows boxing and have common sense can see what he is and has done in the past, corrup or incompetent judges, playing along with the corrupt organizations, just to make a buck. Can you believe he hasn't fight a mandatory for the WBA, WBC and IBF in three years, and the WBO mandatory appeared out of thin air, ryder. His fans keep finding excuses and we keep fvking with them.
He has never shown the greatness that others have shown who got the praise and attention and media and the over looked parts of his fight life as you described. Now maybe no one else has any hate for the guy but i do. Every time he starts with "who will i fight next" ? Or why he chooses the guy with the least resistence or challenge in the ring yea i hate to hear about the guy. He could have legit respected fighter by most fans in the know but he avoided challenges and has always gotten "considerations" that most never would have. No one on note ever pressed him on PEDs outta fear of the promo boys or ink they needed to put out. He will fade inside the ring then lets how many people re watch his fights that is the true edge of a fighter those who want to re-live the moments in the ring.
He didn't win more than three rounds versus Lara, and one guy, Mexican, had it 9-3 ginger, Floyd completely shut him down, and one judge had a draw, ggg shut him down another draw, he hasn't fought a real mandatory in three years and the soups haven't made him do it nor strip him of the belts, he threw his belt in the trash because he was avoiding ggg and the WBC rewarded him with a franchise belt, basically a pass for him to choose the bums he was seeking. There's more, but I just want you to read and see what you're going to reply and refute what I wrote.

You're not answering the core of this thread. Why then Lara didn't become popular? According to you the opportunity is all that matters. He didn't beat Floyd, no passing of the torch, yet that's enough to become huge in this sport. That's what you said...
I see. That's why people need to be careful in making claims they can't back up. It's one lesson to be learned. Kids say the darnedest things, but they're kids.

Okay. Bivol beat him. No controversies. Did Bivol become a superstar? Where is the torch passing you were talking about here? What the heck happened there?
bivol only? What about ggg? Lara gave him a lesson in ring generalship, and defense and taught him not to pick another good technician, I guess he forgot the lesson and picked on bivol.
You missed a couple:
All those dudes won legitimate world titles at some point in their careers. He also fought contenders like:
Austin Trout (Trout was the champ, not a contender, and I think he beat Canelo in a close fight)
John Ryder (old, domestic level fighter)
To me, Canelo's only impressive wins are:
2nd GGG fight (though, that could have gone either way - but it was a really good performance)
Callum Smith
Billy Joe Saunders
Caleb Plant
With all the rest, you have to add an asterisk, like you did, Elastic Recoilz (old/past prime opponent, rehydration clauses, weight bullying, corrupt judging).
Canelo is a very good fighter, but not great. If you're great you don't need to stack the scales to win. What would his win-loss record be had he not stacked the scales?
- - When was U tagged in Shyte?
This is my issue. If Canelo wants to fight Crawford and Jake Paul it's up to him, I just won't watch. But he needs to start getting stripped of his belts.
Obviously I would like to see Canelo - Benavidez but it's not Mayweather - Pacquiao and boxing survived the ridiculous marination of that fight.
That's all a fan can ask, fight or vacate. Keep the line moving, and let other fighters make some money to feed their families.
You don't know anything about Mexican, Mexican Americans, so shut the f.uck about what you don't know about boy.
I'm mixed race. South and Central Americans worship whiteness. The fellow was not lying. If I can think of all the Mexican boxers off the top of my head starting with Salvador Sanchez till today as a sample size, Canelo is the only one who has a European phenotype vs. a slightly Indigenous one. It is what it is.
Haha...Bivol beat him and he didn't become a superstar! Haha... couldn't even get a fight for like 2 years after that fight. You'd think everyone would jump at fighting Bivs, except Betervs. It's funny.
The ones that beat him and were robbed or the bums he fought? He could have fought benavidez, what about Morrell Jr? He's been his mandatory for three years. Okay. Bivol beat him. No controversies. Did Bivol become a superstar? Where is the torch passing you were talking about here? What the heck happened there?
What opportunity? He didn't win and no torch was passed. His career should have ended by today's standard. He moved on. He genuinely thought he could win that fight not so much about getting longer vacations. And he didn't wait around. He was active while waiting.
What can you say about the guys who lost to Canelo? Where are they now? They were given opportunity to take the torch as you were saying here. Where are they? Why didn't they become Canelo?

On a more serious note, do you think there will never be any Canelo without favoritism? How do you think it will play out when the Mexican superstar retires?
No idea. I hope it's better for the sport but I don't have much optimism that guys will fight enough, or make the fights we want to see, at least when we want to see them. It's the guys in the lower weight classes that seem to want to fight more often and make the best fights.
Keep your head in the sand.

it does seem that everyone who watchs boxing either hates him or falls in love with him. for me he never had the type of fights that made me want to watch him again and again.....
There were no stand outs to me, is a decent fighter sure, but then you get into the sweepstakes everytime he is making "a decision" on who he is going to fight like he is the most important fighter in boxing, then he fights guys who are not able to give the man a real challenge and the way he is written about and .....let those that follow him follow him he is not the driver of boxing.

Because I find it funny that you think otherwise.
