After watching the film of the Fury/Francis fight, I actually believe Francis is the odds on favorite.
Here is why.
1. He is stronger than AJ, an experienced grappler, and wrestler, he will be able to wear AJ down in the clinches by the 4th round as AJ does not have a real gas tank, and panics when shoved out of his comfort zone.
2. He has heavy hands, it won't take much to shake AJ up, even a grazing shot, and once Francis has him in trouble, AJ won't have the stamina, the cojones, or the will to stand up after he is hurt
3. Francis showed surprising counter punching ability, especially inside, he has the hand speed, and surprising timing, these are among the ingredients to force AJ into a fight.
Just my two cents
Floyd was what 39, 20lbs smaller, was a fleet footed boxer that many said cant punch, in this fight he put up a high guard and wallked forward like a terminator that's the only reason he got hit at all as he had no regard for Connor at all, if he was serious as in boxing he could have just fought a typical Floyd fight and boxed a very easy win, but he didn't he was the one doing the pushing, to be honest Connor should have been able to bully the hell out of Floyd and force him to box, but he couldn't, he wasn't stronger or punched hard yet he was a lights out standup champ in MMA, for all his physical advantages over Floyd he was the physically weaker guy that gassed in no time.
What would have been a "victory" for the MMA guy in a setting like that against an opponent at Floyds level? he lasted 10 rounds, never touched the canvas and outlanded Floyd in 3 or 4 rounds. The same Floyd who, while obviously getting old, was still very good and dominating Pac two years earlier. If a boxer walked straight into an MMA fight against a top all time p4p fighter who had still actively been winning at a high level 18 months before, won a couple of rounds and then lost via standing stoppage late in the fight when they'd gassed out, would you say they gave a bad account of themselves?
I will give Francis all the credit in the world if he wins it, but I think AJ is going to dominate this, and Im no fan of AJ Im just looking at the fight.
Of course I favour AJ too, its just funny to jump on the Ngannou train because it upsets the apple cart. I wanted James Toney to do the same the other way round back in the day. Its also partly that this HW division can go fuck itself thanks to year after year of waiting in vain for AJ/Wilder, AJ/Fury and now even Fury/Usyk being dragged out. It'd be funny if after all that some random guy from another sport strolled in and just made everyone look like they were overrated bums all along.
How many people put a dent in Floyd? its not exactly a common occurance is it? as far as Floyd outwrestling him, i'm just flicking through the fight quickly now to see all the clinch exchanges and other than a couple of times where he got his forearm in Conors face late in the fight when Conor was gassed as **** to keep distance i'm not seeing it tbh. A lot of the clinches are basically Floyd cowering away and waiting for the ref while Conor slips behind him and tries to throw a few cheap shots.
That fight in general was a bad look imo. Floyd is one of the p4p best boxers of all time, but he dropped rounds to Conor, took 10 rounds to "stop" him and even that was a standing stoppage over a badly gassed Conor who is known for his poor gas tank and how he wilts later in fights. Floyd was unable to put him on the canvas even in that compromised state.
I'm not disagreeing with you on that. In a pure striking competition with limited clinching that kind of strength isnt as big of a factor, although there is some degree of crossover between mass and strength and punching power. And its not like Ngannou is some big slow bodybuilder, hes athletic as well.
I think AJ is a bit of a paper tiger in some ways. He looks the part but in practice how often has he actually steamrolled and mandhandled people? especially people who are big strong powerful athletic monsters themselves. People talk like he was a killer before Ruiz ruined him but was he really? even then he had the fight of his life with a 42 year old and was put on his arse in the process, took half an hour to get Carlos Takam out of there, took 20 mins each with Breazele, Shyte and old Povetkin and two of them had him hurt. The only fight I can recall where he did a proper fast demolition job on a big strong physical prime guy with a bit of ability was the Charles Martin fight.

AJ is not a bully or a great, he is an Olympian HW, athletic and can box good clean technique and he has power, but yeah he is not going to battle in the trenches with Francis he doesn't have that demeanour, he is in good form having his 4th fight in a year I think he will use good boxing technique and straight punches, Francis will feel his straight right hands.

So you have no answer to the physics involved, how did Mayweather out wrestle Connor and walk him down, how could Connor not put a dent in a Boxer 20lbs lighter how did that happen?
Boxing is boxing MMA is MMA it doesn't convert as cleanly as you think it does.

In pure strength, that is the key, its not about pure strength its not a tug of war its boxing, and in a boxing ring AJ can be stronger than Francis, not saying he will be but its very much reality that many weaker pure strength guys are stronger in combat.

I get that but you were casting doubt on whether Ngannou was stronger than AJ, it seems pretty open and shut to me. He would ****ing ragdoll Joshua in any situation that required pure strength.
If only boxing allowed such use for this strength.

So we've gone from it being speculation that getting kicked in the head is worse than getting punched in the head with a boxing glove, to it being speculation that 270+lb Ngannou who extensively trains grappling is stronger than Anthony Joshua? lol Jesus....

Refer back to my AJ vs Usyk comment
Unless of course a wrestling match will take place between Franny and AJ.

Explain how these physics factor into your absolute opinion, lets say a car that is 20% lighter but 35% faster than another car , and both hit a pressure pad at the same time which one hits with more force, you see I don't disagree with you Im just not going to take the obvious face value of it must be look its a leg, and realize there is a lot of unknown physics at play here, well not unknown we just have unknown measurements, which mean for all intents and purposes without the numbers its all pissing in the wind.
A stronger guy can be the weaker guy in combat because of leverage and balance, boxing grappling is not like MMA because you cannot grab them, its more like bumpers trying to push or pull to an angle where they can get of a shot.

You dont think a guy who has about 20lbs of additional muscle mass and who has been training to stop HW wrestlers from taking him down for over a decade is going to be stronger?

Stopped at ''stronger''
What is your proof ?
One can say AJ was ''stronger'' than Usyk and look how those fights turned out.

Lol, it is pretty crazy to think theres any debate at all that you can do more damage with your shin or foot than your fist.

Solid.
:lol1: When does the opponent getting hit dive head first directly into a punch in boxing on a televised professional level? :lol1: Like never, but a floating strike with no answer to newton's third law totes does more damage than a grounded strike that uses the third law to its benefit because this fool's forehead got caved in. Nothing to do with him diving face first into it.
The dudes are idiots. I'm legitimately impressed with your ability to find some decent science in "sports science". I thought I was the only one who knew about kinematic chains here :lol1:
Well done bud.
Ive bred performance dogs for 50 yrs, you got to understand how the body works to be able to breed and improve it selectively, its all angles fulcrums and levers, followed by muscle type and proportion, then we get into temperament that drives it all, its really no different with human athletes, science pretty much has all the answer to performance there are laws of motion that everything abides by, the young fellas in here don't think deeply about things they just run with what ever is the flavor.
Honestly. Plenty. Guys get knocked spark out in boxing all the time. Every weekend.
That Masvidal kick is surely a bit of an exception? Even I've seen that one.
As for the last one, absolutely boxers are delivering more force. They're throwing at far greater speeds than that leg could deliver to head height.

.....
some guys will punch harder than some will kick and visa versa, its not an all one way or the other.
If they're anywhere near the same weight the guy thats kicking would have to be very poor mechanically to not be able to generate more power than the puncher.
I do agree with the bolded to some degree, some kicks get a lot more leverage than others. A push kick or front kick for example doesnt have the same amount of hip drive in it as a punch so I wouldnt be surprised if a good puncher is hitting harder than those. I'm mostly talking roundhouse kicks which are the most common and can hit very hard, then the most powerful would be some spinning shit like that Buckley KO I put the gif of.
Why are we acting like a good kicker cant accelerate their leg to head height extremely quickly?
What is heavier and stronger? your arm or your leg? why dont the police punch peoples doors down?
They can but nowhere near fast as a punch can if you measure it in milliseconds, it has 1/2 the distance to travel for one, point is at some point the velocity will overcome the mass and we don't know where that is, some guys will punch harder than some will kick and visa versa, its not an all one way or the other.
What we have here, is boxing fans pretending that if they were put in the shitty position of having to make the choice between being punched by a boxer with boxing gloves on, or kicked in the fucking head by a MMA/kickboxing/muay Thai fighter, they'd pick being kicked in the head....
Where does velocity come into it?
They touch on it here.

Its not just about speed, its the weapon itself. A heavy leg being whipped around from the hip like a baseball bat and then the unpadded shin bone hitting someone in the face. Its a much more powerful weighty weapon than your fist.
Flying knees are not common but they're not rare either. They mostly happen when someone times their opponents takedown. Another famous example being the MVP/Cyborg one which did this...

What kind of punch would it take to do that?
Levers matter when you throw a kick in a combat sport as well. You're driving up from the ground, through the hip and following through with the leg. If you hit a ball at head height like that youre again gonna hit it harder than if you punched it.
