For me: The importance of activity. I've been conversing a lot recently about this topic, in regards to activity being integral in cultivating and preserving a boxer's star-power. I think last night showed how impactful activity can be to a boxer's physical and mental well-being. Joshua had three fights this year...the first time since 2016. He winds up capping off the year with his best performance against the best opponent he faced in 2023...potentially a top 5 performance. He seemed completely focused on the task at hand, and didn't seem to be over-thinking. Good punch selection, throwing the right hand with conviction, good footwork, active jab (offensively and defensively), sharp counter-punching, etc. It was an all-around great performance and I'm not sure he would've been able to pull it off if not for the other two fights he had this year.
On the other hand, you have Deontay Wilder: one fight in 2020, 2021..one round in 2022, 14 months of inactivity and goes into fighting a former titlist in Joseph Parker who fought three times (4 including Wilder) this year. Wilder appeared to be having an identity crisis: a brawler trying to be a pure-boxer. His coordination and timing was non-existent, he was hesitant to throw his 1-2 with conviction, and he was gun-shy. He sort of reminded me of Joshua against Franklin: a boxer who's over-thinking and having an internal struggle. Parker looked like it was another day in the office for him. He stuck to his game-plan and never really allowed Wilder to gain any momentum. Maybe if Wilder had a couple tune-ups before taking on a relevant opponent, he could've given a better account of himself. I'm not sure if Wilder cares about winning anymore; he probably took this opportunity for the payday because he knows he doesn't have many left.
Sure, stoppages are exciting but I love to watch guys like Bivol put on masterclasses. I might be biased because I coach guys to use the Soviet style and I love to watch it work. I understand it can come across as boring to some people though
The more you go into survival mode the harder it is for the other guy to stop you (without taking too many risks).. Bivol is a super operator.
Ok if you dislike him, but he still beats that old Canadian.
You are a strange boxing fan, I enjoy watching Bivol more that all heavyweights.

Bivol does have a few flaws besides his lack of power. Doesn't do much with angles, for instance. Needs to commit more to the body. He could probably stop people if they couldn't see the shots coming, or could rack up knockdowns by hitting them off angle so they can't brace with their feet. Does he NEED to improve his game though? Probably not. He's a tough out for anyone.
Wilder is done, lost the passion for the sport, Malik Scott is overrated asf, where's the inspiring speeches and go to him talk, Wilder didn't need tactical brilliance second half of the fight, he needed to be told to start swinging, ridiculous.
Ben Davison is doing something right, AJ had a renewed confidence in his skills that you hadn't seen since the Ruiz 1 fight. Wallin wasn't as good as everyone thought, or I thought for that matter.
Parker is still the same good fighter, nothing special, wilder just didn't want to be there.
Big baby is a hell good talker and will be back in big fights, I think he could actually beat dubois if he loses 30 pounds, big if though.
Eddie and Frank don't give a toss about working together if each get their cut.
Jai Opetia is P4P top 10.
Arthur showed up to imitate a heavy bag and going the distance with him impressed you? A real elite stops him. Bivols punch selection is very basic and amateur style, just the same thing over and over.
I was impressed that he had a long layoff and performed the same as always, which means he probably takes his career seriously even when he's not training. It definitely would've been nice if he had gotten the stoppage, would've made the card go by faster. His accuracy and punch placement seemed a bit off. I think he would've been sharper without the inactivity, and maybe he would've been able to force the stoppage. Arthur has only been stopped by Yarde.
If anyone was a heavy bag last night, it was Miller. Miller was so damn big that Dubois couldn't miss.
Why? Because you know the result and that it will be a master-class or skill and distance management?
Yes, but also that it's most likely going the distance. He hasn't stopped anyone in almost 6 years.
13 months inactivity, but I was impressed that he still pitched a shutout against Arthur.

Just what this place needs another weirdo into racial/nationality conspiracy sh^t or w/e this means. You'll fit right in.
It means we Samoans are cut from a different cloth than Russians and African/American/Brits.
We fear little, fight through adversity, don't quit are devastatingly handsome and virile but most of all humble...lol
Biggest takeaways…
AJ still sucks.
Wilder’s inactivity and ahyuasca trip took away his killer instinct. He’s done.
Bivol gets stopped by Beterbiev. He shouldnt have gone 12 with some no namer and didnt look impressive against him
I was just saying he was injured in the fight. I wasn't trying to speculate about anything like that. Sh^t happens. You win, you lose. There's always reasons you won or you lost, sometimes its the other guy, sometimes its an injury, sometimes its a combo of both. It is what it is. I got no dog in that fight.
Yeah and Opetaia's jaw was hanging after round 2 and still took it to Briedis for the next 10.
I get it. Makhmudov is Russian. Opetaia is Samoan...CHEEEEHOOOO!!!
Idk, its on his IG tho. Apparently in 2 places. Gots an xray up. Had surgery.
Ouch! He throws punches from weird angles too, maybe his technique led to the injury?
Apparently Arslanbek broke his arm in that fight.
I don't know that it would have made a difference as he was off balance and getting clipped on the counter plus he had no defense against body shots.
Kabayel and his trainer had obviously done their homework.
Apparently Arslanbek broke his arm in that fight.
When? I'm looking at the highlights and nothing stands out...other than he can't absorb body punishment.
Bivol fights are a good time to run out and pick up a pizza.

Business
Saudi Arabia is the face of boxing.
Promoters either cooperate or see ya later, go back to your echo chambers.
The best will be fighting the best again (and if you don't then you are just trying to follow a particular business model).
The American boxing folk will either have to join it or I wouldn't be surprised if they ignore it (and continue the bullshit A side B side, fight bums and pad records and then rob victories when they lose).
This is why the cherry pick + control judging guys like Canelo and PBC mob don't get invites..because the Saudis are boxing fans and basically say I wanna see You fight Him ..when it's a No, the Saudis say fk off, next .
Boxing
Opetaia is one serious mofo on a mission. He arrived at the first press conference not even knowing the opponent- he said he didn't care and wants to fight and anybody and not trying to play the games of cherry picking opponents
Frank Sanchez time to step up after a solid win
Filip Hrgovic biding his time as mandatory and fought a guy who just came for payday.
Kabayel- smart operator great showing of ring IQ. Makhmudov was very static and a little but bewilder at times. Great to see Kabayel using body punches and go hard on it. I did learn today that Makhmudov broke his hand in round 2 (it went downhill for him in 3 and 4).
Daniel Dubois: chin up to this guy showed real heart and grit in there against a guy 100lbs heavier... hopefully that can propel him to learn from that and how he could make it easier and less mistakes (leaning in with his head). Apparently his Dad gave him a yelling at end of round 6 and that it was gave him the second wind- so perhaps bring on Dad more often. Fight of the night.
Jarrell Miller - drug free he tried and gave his best so kudos for battling it out for 9.99 rounds.. he will be a challenge for everybody and just need to work out how to get his old stamina back without the drugs. Fight of the night.
Dimitry Bivol- is so good, such a special talent, but, turns out there are 1. Shit commentators that think you need a KO to be good and 2. A lot of fans (maybe canelo nut huggers) speaking negative against him.
Joseph Parker - excellent focus and preparation and great team strategy..... though...
Wilder : just didn't look good from a stature perspective.. from the first second his movement and leg movement, coordination.. he kinda seemed mentally, just happy to be there.. and no push to win.. just weird and maybe he is just not there anymore, slightly delusional inclusing his corner. Reminds me a bit like Tony Ferguson in the UFC who even when losing thinks he's a winner and says hes back. . I love Wilder so much but I would love to see him retire before potentially getting seriously hurt.. only other chance would be to put him against bums so he can get a KO but once he goes near anybody in the top 5 or so, he could get seriously beat up (again).
Joshua: outstanding performance all round very focused and elements of feint, pull back, throw... effective in body punches from the get go and I started feeling sorry for Wallin after a while so a good corner stoppage. If Joshua can stay at that laser level focus of last night he would be a challenge for anyone.
If Beterbiev vs Bivol happens & Beterbiev doesn't KO Bivol I'mma be rooting for the judges to rob Bivol on principle for his crimes against boxing fans with his boring ass fights.
It's never good for boxing when a fighter is robbed. Bivol isn't must-see TV for me but at least he doesn't clinch the entire fight. Bivol versus a random Euro guy type fights are usually going the distance, so it's a good time to run out and grab food/drinks before the main event.
