dazn had more opponent control. remember canelo literally left dazn and his first dazn contract because dazn didnt want to approve the bum opponents canelo wanted and canelo wanted to duck guys like ggg(until he was old enough). pbc said come on over fight any bum you want, we just care about money! great stuff...and thats how you get laughable fights like charlo. i dont see how its good that sh-it fights are doing well, that only makes them more willing to do more sh-it fights.
Obviously Showtime > DAZN, they are an established huge network.
But Canelos profile has grown massively since he joined DAZN. He's pretty much recognised at the number 1 in the sport now.
Not saying he wasn't a draw before. But he's certainly grown as a name since.
Whether that's because of DAZN (and whether DAZN even made any money with Canelo or used him to add subs) is another story.
DAZN is pretty subpar at hype, and advertising fights because the reach, especially in the US, isn't good. And doubling the cost only for US subscribers effectively ceded the market to anyone else. If anything, they should have reduced the cost in the US to increase subscribers and gradually increased the cost over years. But they're stupid, so they're now trying to survive on the strength of YouTubers like KSI and the Paul brothers. I do appreciate the efforts they've put into women's boxing. IMO, making boxing a viable career for women is long term good for the sport.
LOL, yep. Revenue matters at this level not how many $30 seats got sold.
DAZN PPVs: GGG 3, 550k & Bivol, 520k
Showtime PPVs: Plant, 800k & Charlo, 650k
Part of it is just Showtime is making fights for him that were interesting or can be hyped as interesting (undisputed vs undisputed) & DAZN wasn't. GGG 3 woulda been a big fight right after their 2nd fight or at least 2yrs before it was made. No one hardly gaf about Bivol now let alone before he beat Alvarez.
Is there a level when revenue doesn't matter?
Doesn't get much bigger than Alvarez vs. Saunders which drew 73,126 and set a new indoor attendance record for a fight in the US. That was DAZN.
That did a gate of $11 mil. The Plant and Charlo fights doubled that gate
Try again
