Canelo is fading but he has good ring IQ and has excellent punch selection
He has perfected his style and perfected his technique since the Callum Smith fight. However we did see glimpses of it in the Kovalev fight too;
Low output
Load up on power shots
Select carefully between body and head
Pressure
Stay in pocket
Stay low
This works 90% against the lower A to B level fighters he has faced but against elite champions he would struggle.
Beterbiev - violently gets KOd. That small pumped up body of Canelo wouldn't be able to take the power and that famous chin would be cracked. Avoid avoid avoid.
Bivol - wide UD for Bivol all over again.
Benavidez - closer put Benavidez takes it.

Canelo murders Bumavidez. Slow feet, huge body to work, slow hands, average defense etc.. Also, his arsenal is full of hooks which Canelo likes. Canelo doesn't like straight punches.
I like Canelo's chance against Beterbiev as well. If he boxes safely, he wins. He shouldn't trade with Beterbiev.
Bivol is the only stylistic issue for him between 154 and 175.
I think Canelo beats everyone between 154 and 175 when he is well-trained, motivated and non-injured.
Wipe your chin, Canelo’s man juice is dripping from it. Unless some seriously crooked scorecards are involved (not out of the question), Canelo flat out can’t/won’t/didn’t beat Bivol. Canelo knows this and that’s why the rematch didn’t get made.

Sorry , didn’t quite get what you were saying , you know with Canelo’s digh in your mouth and all
King Artur would break him in two and you could put him back together like mr potato head
Bet you said the same thing about Bivol
How did that work for you ?

Beterbiev will wreck him and that is why he hasnt even said his name. His walk down style is a terrible idea to walk to beterbiev, everyone gets obliterated if he does that. If he tries to counter and let beterbiev stalk him, he is rusty on that style its been forever and i still think beterbiev wrecks him, beterbiev is very accurate and can use ring movement when he has to, he has good timing and sense of distance.
maybe that is the same reason canelo has been avoiding benavidez, is that he hasnt fought in the counter punching style is so many years and that is what he needs to do against benavideaz. he needs to make that fight already, i am going to be irate if he fights jermall in may.
Canelo isn't going to change his style now:
Low output, loading up, stalking, walking people down.
He isn't a slickster and he isn't powerful compared to the bigger guys - even though he is committing to loading up power shots only now.
His boxing skills arent on display as they used to be because at the higher weights he has to rely on being powerful just to stay in the game.
His power hasn't travelled up either - ie he isn't hitting harder than he was at 160lbs at maximum velocity despite his higher weight. Infact, he is probably hydrating to the same weights as he was before - 170lbs range - same as he did against Khan, GGG, Chavez Jr etc. He's just stronger due to the training but his punch isn't stronger.
You're right though, if he traded with Beterbiev he is going to sleep.
I noticed this too, while watching last night hoping he gets the stoppage only for him to never really get close. Jermell decided early on he only cared about making it 12, not winning the fight. Canelo only got a handful of big shots to the head the entire fight. Jermell was willing to give up his body to protect his head, he ate all those shots all night as have most of canelos opponents now, his power isnt all that big he just throws with it every punch.
Thinking about how canelo could even stop jermell when he is always guarding his face, the only way that was happening is if you went back to the old canelo from 154, throwing combinations, setting up headshots with a jab and feignts or moving backwards, letting jermell come to him and looking for counters. And he just doesnt fight that way anymore and hes become pretty predictable.
I agree with the first 2 but DB likes to let his hands go and I think Canelo is at his best when he's catching guys with huge counter shots. I think DB walks right into something big and gets put down. Then, if he gets up, his punch output drops because he won't wanna make the same mistake again. Canelo by UD
Exactly. I think a lot of people are overestimating Benavidez because he has these highlight reel clubbing combinations but I’m not sold on him personally.
He’s got gaping holes in his defense and Canelo looks A LOT better when fighters are coming to him and they’re a plodder: think Alfredo Angulo or James Kirkland.
Benavidez is a more dangerous fighter than those at the time but he still eats a lot of leather and has been put down before.
What is Benavidez going to do? Outwork him? He’s going to pay a heavy toll in the process. Canelo is an A level counterpuncher and I think Benavidez either downshifts his activity in the later rounds or stubbornly presses forward en route to getting wobbled.
All in on Canelo.
And hell, Benavidez still has a tall order in Andrade come November.

So 2 175 pounders and Benavidez? There's weight classes for a reason we saw Charlo last night not do crap because of it. Benavides has a chance but I'd probably favor canelo by a little bit.

- - Beter on the mend may be kaput.
Canelo ain’t fighting Bivol again even at 168 where he gets no credit.
He will fight Bena soon, so U zero for 3!!!
I think would outpoint Benavidez but for some reason (up to now) Canelo doesn't really like that fight, so you have to ask why.
He has even been coming up with ridiculous excuses like he doesn't want to fight Mexicans even though half of his record is Mexicans and Benavidez is an American born and half Mexican.
there's absolutely NO reason that fight shouldn't happen in May. Unless Benavidez fought Andrade and lost, that fight is supposed to happen soon.
But as long as Benavidez comes through that, there's no good reason it can't happen in May. I can't see Benavidez not wanting it, we know he does. So it's really on Canelo to take that fight and there's not really a good reason for him not to...

I'll add this
If the Canelo-Benavidez or Beterbiev-Bivol fights don't get made then Benavidez should step up to LHW and face Bivol or Beterbiev.
He is already a big SMW and walks around at 200lbs and is not far off Zurdo's size.
Waiting around for a Canelo payday is stupid because Canelo is always the A-side and can freeze you out as well as having the pick of promoters at his doorstep writing blank cheques to sign him up for multifight deals.
Benavidez try and establish himself and carve his own legacy independently of Canelo if he has the will to do so
