People were talking about him like the second coming of Christ.
Can you imagine a prime Manny Pacquiao getting beaten by Teofimo Lopez? He’d batter him and stop him. It wouldn’t be competitive.
He’s got 3 losses now in 20 fights.
Perhaps he’s not quite as elite as we initially thought?
Let’s not get carried away here. Devin
is 24 and definitely not in his prime. Just like Canelo wasn’t in his prime when he lost at 23 to Mayweather.
Loma fought a young, hungry champion who was weight drained and no where near his prime. However, Loma isn’t at his prime either. Let’s give the fighters the respect they deserve but let’s not try to twist the story to fit a narrative.
I agree with that and I really like Loma. Begs the question though. If Mayweather and Pacquiao are generational talents, then what is a Roy Jones Jr ( who is arguably a level of talent ABOVE even Manny and Floyd which is hard to imagine but it's true)... Is ANY boxer of ANY era at Roy's talent level?
I think in terms of raw talent nobody was as good as Roy. Other great fighters achieved more than Roy though.
I always said it, he was a good amateur and that's it, he lost to Salido then uncle Bob started fixing fights in his favor..got whooped by teofimo and schooled by a kid in Haney. His fan boys are delusional just like ggg bandwagoners.
I like Loma now, but i’m not necessarily a fan boy. Like if I see him in the streets, I would show him respect and want a picture with him of course. I’d probably be happy to see him, but I mean if you’re a boxing fan, why wouldn’t you? Former world champion, crazy ass amateur record, fought the best fighters around his weight (tried to fight Tank).
With that said, I thought he beat Haney. Unlike what his fanboys say, no he didn’t beat Salido or Lopez. But I had him beating Haney.
Excellent Fighter but he was never "BETTER THAN..." Floyd, Ali, Pacquiao and whoever TF Else Arum tried to Proclaim him as being better than
You remember when he beat Russell Jr and Rigondeux and his fans were making threads that he would school Mayweather at 130 and that he’s a better SFW than Mayweather? :lol1:
I mean after a while his fans finally came off their high, and then it was easier to finally appreciate Loma without all the exaggeration from some fans.
I’ve been harsh on Loma since he started and was streamlined to a world title fight in front of every other deserving fighter. He turned out to be better than I thought. If Loma makes weight like some of these other fighters make weight, then he would be a career Super Featherweight. If anything, he has overachieved.
Pacquiao? Yeah Pac would KO Lopez. Pac also weighed 147lbs on fight night of his 130-135 fights. He was short, yeah, but Pac wasn’t a small guy. Pac was a heavy fighter in the ring.
In fact, vs Morales at 130, the shorter Pacquiao weighed 144lbs vs Morales 139lbs.
At 135 vs David Diaz, Pac weighed just 1lb less than Diaz, 147 vs 148.
So yeah, Pacquiao would be better than Loma at 135, because Pac was not a small guy at the weight. He was about the same size as the average LW.
When he got to 147 was when he was finally only rehydrating 2-4lbs, because there he was actually a small WW.
he like that beijing dude had a style for amateurs but didn't translate well into pros. korobov too
speed matters most in amateur competition.
but frame, reach and power matter more in pros.
these feather dusters come to the pros and get outhustled. the guys who do well with an amateur style like Usyk, Beter and GGG all have power and size.
Makes me kinda worry a little about Andy Cruz...

Still think Loma is one of the best boxers around, but he is physically declining and doesn't belong at lightweight despite that most of his accolades during his professional career is at 135. I think he has a solid resume having a lot of consistent wins over ranked fighters with dominant performances.
But the level of opposition is just good not great, ATGs that belong at the division would have toyed with them, Linares whom I consider his biggest win at lightweight due to his athletic gifts and having a solid hot streak against Crolla, Campbell and Gesta, already showed to have a glass chin as was knocked down multiple times and stopped by Salgado, DeMarco, Thompson, and Cano. It shows how difficult it be to beat Jorge if he didn't have that chin as a hindrance, but it also demonstrates that Vasily's power did not translate that well when he moved up.

Loma is also easily damageable despite his defensive skills in the aftermaths of most fights. Campbell and Haney who are feather fisted had hurt him to the body in multiple occasions.
So I want to say is that he is one of the most skilled fighters out there, but Loma is plagued with weaknesses that aren't fixable due to contending at a division he shouldn't fighting in the first place.
He has a unique style that’s for sure but most definitely was hyped to no end by the media and he never really delivered on that hype. He looked sensational beating the Linares, Campbells of the world but the minute he stepped up one more level of competition he started to look ordinary. Haney nor Lopez were P4P fighters when he fought them if anything both young fighter’s decided to risk it all and challenge the more experienced fighter which is something people “conveniently” forget. You can still find threads when he faced Lopez and how he was going to dominate him and potentially knock him out but that never happened and they had nothing but excuses afterwards. I rate him about half a level below the Marquez, Morales, Barreras of the boxing world nothing close to a Mayweather, Pacquiao or Jones level fighter
Mayweather and Pacquiao were generational talents. Imagine what they’d do to Haney even at 35. They wouldn’t lose a single round.
Haney isn’t even that good, I had Loma winning but I don’t see it as some incredible accomplishment that he beat (or arguably should’ve beat) Haney.
Great fighter but not an era defining fighter. He’ll never be revered in the pro’s like he was in the amateur’s.

What a dumb thread.
Loma's not in his prime and hasn't been since he's been at 135.
Even at Linares, he was at the limits of his age & size.
The fact that he hung with 2 P4P level talents in Lopez & Haney while a decade older than both and smaller than both shows how bad ass he is.
He could have become undisputed champion at 135lbs with a massive natural size disadvantage over his opponents and is arguably fighting 2 weight classes above his best weight.
Nothing over rated about that at all.
I think he won it 7-5 and would love to see a rematch.
He is generational talent for sure. The guy is unique and we will never see such style again. Incredible talent and at 35yo still outboxing young talents
His resume in no way has earned the accolade youre giving him.
There is only one reason you are posting this.

I don't think you know what generational talent means. It does not mean losing 3 fights out of 20 to non elite fighters, plus he really lost to Ortiz also as well but was given a robbery nobody complained about.
