I know nothing about the Japanese fighter except his record, which I just looked up: 11-1 (10 KOs, and one loss by KO). Boxrec has him rated #19 in the world. Looks like a decent fight, especially since it’ll be in the challenger’s backyard. Robeisy better score the second KO. Lol
Agree to disagree, to me at least the featherweight is stacked though it doesn't have the most skilled fighters.
Just don't think that Satoshi of all fighters mentioned has earned this kind of opportunity. Doesn't matter what background pedigree he has
If the focus was facing a Japanese opponent, Reiya Abe fits the bill after coming off a big win.
I don't think Robeisy has to fight a difficult opponent in every fight, he is coming off from two pretty good wins after all, but at least give the opportunity to a fighter who deserves it.
Maybe we're looking at this different. You see it as an opportunity for the belt, and I see it as an stay busy fight. I know there's always a chance of an upset. In any case, what can we do?
Ramirez is just the co-feature; he’s really on the undercard of Naoya Inoue, who is Japanese. The card is in Japan. Clearly Shimizu was chosen for his nationality. It’s a promotional thing. I’m not saying he deserves a shot, but since when has that mattered in pro boxing? Lol
I understand that Robeisy wants to keep active to polish and display his skills in a big event, but when he holds a much higher standing than the other featherweights by being a world champion, he can't just fight any fighter.
There has been horrendous matchmaking in the past like Romero vs Puello, but unlike Shimizu, Rolly is marketable and had tested a big name like Tank.
Like I had mentioned in another post, hopefully it will lead on to bigger fights after participating in the card of Inoue vs Fulton. Probably take on Conlan or fight for another belt against Lopez.
This isn't the case where a olympic medalist bested ranked fighters or lost to the top opposition.
Such as Campbell, Valdez, Coincecao, Casamayor, Taylor, Lomachenko and Robeisy Ramirez.
Satoshi during his professional career has no fought any elite opposition, and has only fought unknown fighters once per year since 2019.
There is no reason whatsoever that he should get the opportunity to fight for the WBO title over the others who had worked hard for their positioning.

Yes, you're right the division has some good names, definitely not stacked. Maybe they doing a Japan tour, I believe Salas live there for awhile, pretty sure his wife is Japanese.

The division is stacked but no one really stands out much over the others in terms of talent excluding some exceptions.

Ruben Villa
Luis Alberto Lopez
Michael Conlan
Josh Warrington
Gary Russell Jr
Reiya Abe (Just defeated Kiko Martinez)
Brandon Figueroa
Mauricio Lara
Raymond Ford
Mark Magsayo (Might move up)
Leigh Wood

Amazing how being an Olympic medalist is so easily disparaged around here. Lol Merely making the team would be a major claim to fame. I once shared a table at a wedding reception with a woman who represented Ireland in the Olympic marathon. I was so impressed. Took a pic with her like she won the damn thing. Lol I know that reading about sports and watching events on TV while drinking a brew or puffing a joint makes one an expert, but a little respect is in order.

anyone who wins bronze in the olympics is not a cab driver. who are you?

The fact that you have to bring up his amateur career and nothing else speaks for itself.
-He is a bronze medalist
-He defeated a 18 year old dogboe in the amateurs.
Who has he defeated during his professional career?

a former olympic medalist who beat dogboe is considered a “cab driver”.
ignorant stupidity is on a new level.

Well that's a easy way to get the WBO World Championship title, why is he fighting a local Japanese cab driver?
Guessing he needed a break, he took on two top 10 contenders and a former lightweight.
So hopefully it leads to making fights with other top 126 fighters easier, but dang this fight is garbage.

Like almost every fight nowadays. A least the guy has a winning record and looks like he can punch.
