With the amount of information that we have access to in the 21st century and more specifically 2020s, fighters should not be having interviews and being completely incapable of speaking english during an interview with english broadcasters.
In the 1980s, Alexis Arguello spoke better english than fighters 40 year later with access to high speed internet!
There is no downside in learning english, it will make you more money during your career, and after boxing for years to come.
Congrats to Canelo and Cotto, who magnified their career earning potential by keeping up with their english speaking skills!
If these fighters have reached the point of having televised fights, they have already achieved more success and fame than probably 99.9% of people on this site complaining that they don't speak English. Maybe it's YOU who should step your game up.

Who says the WORLD has to comport to your standard?
Sure... so you're a basic monolingual saying it's a disgrace poor people from poor countries don't always learn English. You're a hypocrite and you're wrong about speaking the language that makes the most money.
English speaking countries have the highest gdp per capita
because someone has to talk to the irrelevant tribes.....it won't be me, I refuse to get robbed or killed.

A quick Google search had English ranked #5 as the most profitable language :lol1:

A disgrace? That's a bit harsh. How many languages do you speak TheIronMike? Isn't it worse that one of the richest nation in the world doesn't have an effective system in place to prepare its citizens to be bilingual? Or why can't the citizens of the US use the huge amounts of information available to just learn multiple languages? Most fighters have never had access to a good education which may also increase the difficulty of learning a new language.
I speak the language that makes me the most money.
i mean if you are poor boxer and just starting out, i understand. but if you are a notable boxer who has achieved a certain level of fame and fortune, no excuse.
someone like canleo has no excuse for barely being able to speak english despite all the fame and fortune he has while mexico is right next to the U.S. and knowing that you are gonna have to do business in america.
someone like lara who applied for U.S. citizenship should be able to speak the language.
how you gonna apply for a citizenship to a country yet you dont speak the language?
its not some impossible unreasonable request.
They're missing out, that's for sure, but not a disgrace. Do I care? Not at all.

- - Yeah, like Canelo already with Mega Billionaire Carlos Slim handling his portfolio gonna come to you raggedy A$$ for a financial tutorial...:stupid:
or they could just learn english.
its not like its a hard language to learn like chinese or tamil.
For a young guy it's easier, the problem with the majority of fighters, they do not have the level of education to learn another language, especially spanish speaking boxers. I wish they all could learn, that would be great, but I know how hard it's, so my second wish is the interpreter, they're awful. In any case, I speak both languages.
Some of them try to speak in English, won't even let their interpreters butt in. But you won't get the exact same answer like you would in their own tongue. In that case, I'd rather let the interpreter do his job and let them speak in their own language.
I'm even irritated when they won't let their interpreters do their jobs when they can't clearly speak properly in English.
Half the time I’m disgusted with the “translator.” They often misquote the fighter. I despise that. Clearly nepotism is high in those jobs.

Actually, English is considered a difficult language to learn. Perhaps not as hard as those cited, but not nearly as easy as you think. But again, the benefits of learning are huge. My first language was Spanish, but I learned English as a child — exponentially easier to learn as a kid. I also know some basic French and better Italian (taught myself in recent years, using the Duolingo app and some YouTube videos). If you’re living in the US, it’s far easier to learn the language because you can immerse yourself. I have no one to speak Italian with, so it’s purely academic learning. I’m certain I’d be fluent by now if I lived in Italy. Trouble is, people who arrive in the US from other lands tend to find a circle of friends, relatives and associates, were everyone speaks their native language, and they remain in that cozy familiarity. It’s human nature, but it hurts them.
I will say this: it’s in a fighter’s best interest to be as marketable as possible. In large part, that means speaking the language of the dominant marketplace. It also means conveying an image. Sometimes that image is positive (Ray Leonard, De La Hoya, etc.); sometimes that image is negative, or anti-hero (Floyd, Tyson, etc.). I urge Cubans just arriving — sometimes relatives — that the first thing they must do is learn English. Although it isn’t easy for many, it certainly makes life in the US a lot easier. It instantly makes it easier to find decent employment; makes getting around easier; helps you avoid being taken advantage of, etc. All good stuff. Frankly, you’re an ignorant fool if you willfully avoid learning the dominant language wherever you may be — French, Italian, whatever. It’s common sense. But like Twain said…

The translators never say what the boxers said, they're really bad. I wish they hire a good one

an insult to the founding fathers.
I wonder why the founders fathers didn't learn Cherokee or Apache, Seminole or some other dialects from the real Americans.
