He looked 100x better in losing to Usyk than this garbage against a cab driver like Franklin who only came here for a check.
sorry but Both look like complete trash.
the trainer is not the issue with AJ
he fights like a guy that really doesn't want to fight no more and I think Fury and Wilder would make him Stool Quit or something, mentally he is just not the same and I think people need to stop denying it
"This round hit him with the 'POP, POP, WHACK, POW!'" Derrick James would make a great choreographer. Sometimes, I think these American trainers humour British fighters, but it is comical, seems things get lost in Brit-US translation. AJ, at this point, can have a new trainer for every fight. Doesn't matter who is in the corner, he appears to be in a mental decline. Once a fighter reaches that point, the outcome is inevitable.
The issues started with Rob McCracken. Rob is a great coach, no doubt about it. Top-level on the British scene. But the hype ruined them. Around the time AJ beat Klitschko, the mentality changed. Like a switch was flicked, and AJ was suddenly an Elite-level pugilist. Only, he never was, lol. When they started down that path, they hastened AJ's demise. It is not one man's fault, but the hype train that ran out of control.
Personally, I'd have loved to have seen AJ basing his camps in or around London, with a trainer like Don Charles. Someone along those lines. Yes, the fundamentals are important, but what would things have been like if AJ had carried the 'Kill or Be Killed' mentality into every fight? Lived and breathed it every day in the gym? Instead AJ trained out of Sheffield, at the amateur boxing HQ, applying a measured, scientific approach to every aspect of his training.
Would have made a very exciting 235-240lb, hell-for-leather gunslinger, under a trainer like Charles. In the US, the equivalent would be a SugarHill Steward/Kronk mentality.
I never thought Joshua looked that great against Usyk in the second fight TBH. His best set up was McCraken and his cheerleading squad at Matchroom. He looks so robotic and hittable now.
Hate to say it but that 1st fight with Andy.....
No trainer is going to bring out the AJ that fought Wlad.
That's entirely up to AJ
A trainer can give perfect instructions to a guy, and won't mean shlt.
A boxer is going to do what he wants.
''Listen. He's killing you with that uppercut !''
Nods head in agreement.
What the boxer is thinking ''Yeah, I fcking know ! Since I'm the one getting hit with it !!!''
Don't ever compare Joshua to De LA Hoya. One is a truly great fighter and the other has never gotten over that hump.
yes both switch trainers a bit but Oscar was a solidified great while Joshua is what he is.
Both had identity issues and fatigued late in fights. DLH is far greater despite those shared traits.
It's AJ's own fault. He was trying to headhunt despite james telling him multiple times even yelling from the corner to go for the body. He is back to his old self that cost him his recent losses. This is not jame's fault. AJ just sucks at following instructions. Spence and jermell never had such issues under james. 100% AJ's own doing. AJ should not be switching trainers all over the place too. He clearly is not improving and sucks at following instructions.
How long has he been with AJ? You guys know how long it takes to get actual results when working with a new trainer? AJ is at that weird space where DLH was where he kept switching trainers because he lacked an identity as a fighter. He needs to settle on a direction and see it through.

He looked poor. Slow, timid and unfocused.
But he won. Pretty easily in truth. Though Franklin is the kind of guy Joshua was obliterating 10 years ago.
The irony is that Wilder has probably already called Shirley and asked him to make the fight based on what he saw in the ring. That fight tonight could be the one that gets things going.
I think another camp spent polishing up the body shots he nailed Usyk with would have been the best thing for Joshua.
Now he’s changing over to a completely different style.
I don't think anybody can fully judge Joshua's form 'The important thing tonight, is that he achieved the win against a in form fighter'.
It was not really a competitive fight, Joshua was in no threat of losing 'But again Joshua did not blast or completely dominate Franklin'.
So I would say his performance was satisfactory overall.
I think people these days get carried away with expectations, and with their perceptions of the sport.
Joshua just needed to get the win tonight 'And Joshua did just that'.
If you look back in history, all-time great Heavyweights sometimes just get the win.
Holyfield before he beat Mike Tyson was not exactly blasting guys out. Tyson Fury even after Deontay Wilder I, was struggling and being busted up and barely beating fighters like Otto Wallin 'Joshua has just beaten Franklin easily, Joshua won approximately 10 rounds'.
Joshua has not won a fight since 2020, this is his first win in over 2 years.
Joshua is still being held to a high standard, way higher than Tyson Fury or any other Heavyweight.
Joshua can move on now with this win, and work towards other fights 'It will be interesting whether Fury or any of the other top-heavyweights will come forward to fight him'.
Note: Franklin has proven now beyond doubt, that he is a solid fighter. Franklin is a more proven fighter than Ottin Wallin 'That is two fights now at a good high level, where he has performed very well'. Franklin is pretty much becoming a high level fighter who can give World level Heavyweights good work 'The same way Chisora has been doing in his career'.
Hopefully Franklin continues with his momentum, and training full-time and further proves his abilities 'As I stated before this fight, I don't think currently right now there are many active Heavyweights who would banged out Franklin'. I still see only really the top-4 Heavyweights maybe stopping him, if he continues with his current form 'That is the important point to make, Frankin has to maintain the momentum in order to stay competitive'.
I was expecting Joshua to stop Franklin inside 7-9 rounds 'And on route to this win, not drop a single round'. But instead Joshua won the fight with a dominate points win over 12 rounds 'It was a satisfactory win overall, and Joshua's first win in over 2 years' Joshua has to move on now, and up the levels in Opposition 'Ether move on to Whyte or higher' etc.
Double standards again.
Well, it took Fury nearly 11 rounds to take a totally faded Chisora out. Joshua went 12 rounds with Franklin, so what, such a huge difference, lol.
The difference being Chisora is a consistent top-10 and a veteran with heavy shots. He also brings in a lot of aggression, power, and experience with him. Franklin was/is a nobody in the sports and haven't fought any name prior to Whyte. He didn't rank in the top 25 and is also a part-time boxer. Franklin's resume is worse than Tom Scwartz.

James talks too damn much even after the fight. Like dude was all up in Joshua's grill and sht trying to kiss up so that he dont get canned.
lol you're a weird dude
