This move isn't unique to Matchroom. When a promoter has multiple fighters in a division, they have to pick-and-choose when to prioritize one over the other. Hearn had Bivol, Smith, and Buatsi...and made a move that worked for all of them: Bivol gets a stay busy, Buatsi gets a voluntary title shot, and Smith gets a mandatory shot. Buatsi said "F That" and went to see if the grass is greener at BOXXER. Now that puts pressure on Bivol to demand the Beterbiev fight. However, Hearn is probably begging him to wait for Smith/Beterbiev while he looks for a voluntary. I don't think Bivol/Munguia would happen because I don't think GBP is THAT desperate. Again, Bivol/Beterbiev is THE match-up to make for us. But I'm not gonna pretend like Matchroom isn't making a reasonable move. Munguia won't even fight a champ at 160, why would he fight the guy at 175? Probably something even more stupid. Bivol/Spider 2 Munguia would have fought Golovkin a long time ago but the commission wouldn't allow it so Golovkin fought Vanes. Fighters aren't afraid of fighting, it's the promoters who mess things up.

did Munguia turn out to be not as good as every Mexican fight fan was hoping Hard to say until he steps up tbh. His career trajectory has been disappointing but we still don’t really know his ceiling talent wise.
