Yeah, me too. I'm wondering how many of the folks who are complaining have knowledge of those fights beyond Boxrec.
It's about making the fight with the best available boxer, which he ain't. I'm not completely against this fight, I think ryder is entitled to cash in his lottery ticket, he's been around for a long time and he should thanks his manager, for getting him this opportunity and not going the Morrell Jr route. I remember he was at the Morrell vs caseres fight, he was supposed to fight the winner, after witnessing the demolition, hearns took him back to England and told the world he was going to move up to lhw, to face bivol. We all knew what the deal was.
He also arguably got a draw against BJS. He won 5 rounds at worst. Before Canelo, BJS' closest fight was between Ryder and Eubank Jr.
He beat Jacobs 7-5 imo. Jacobs outboxed him in the first part but then Ryder landed better punches, had better agression and ring generalship.
He dog walked Parker down and Parker had to use his hand as an excuse. Because Ryder started to beat him and would TKO him probably in later rounds.
His only clean loss was against Blackwell and he caught him very unmotivated that night.
He is problematic H2H fighter and hard to beat clearly when he is motivated. He is low output fighter. He is very accurate, has underrated defensive skills and can cut the ring. His arsenal is 90% power punches and rarely uses jabs. Poor man's Canelo.
Canelo will beat him 9-3 type decision or late TKO imo. And, that shows Canelo's level.
There's a reason it was his last fight at 160. John says the weight cut was absolutely killing him.
I was actually at both fights, can’t really remember how I had Fielding-Ryder tbh, I remember it being close though.
I had Ryder beating Smith 115-113. The pro-Smith crowd largely disagreed with the decision too.
I think some just want to see Canelo vs Benavidez. It's the best fight to make at 168. Ryder is a tough luck fighter and deserves a big fight and a big payday. I'm not mad about it.
Hopefully Canelo abandons his plans for a rematch with Bivol. The uncertainty of that fight is fcking up the best fights in 2 divisions :(
