Both guys have double digit championship defenses, and they've knocked out or dominated most of their opponents. Wilder has knocked down every opponent he's faced, GGG has never been knocked down. They each have only lost to one person, however, that one person beat them twice. If it wasn't for Fury & Canelo, who knows how Wilder & GGG would be viewed by history.
But between GGG and Wilder, who has the better legacy?
I love both guys, but GGG's an all-time great (top 20-ish) Middleweight.
Wilder, though I think he's the 2nd best of this era, isn't close to being a top 20 heavy.
He MAY be top 30, if that.
GGG
he beat way more ranked opponents and we know he couldn't get several big fights because, he was avoided by basically anyone with a name at MW when he was in his prime
Sergio Martinez ducked him, Sturm ducked him, Billy Joe Saunders ducked him, Peter Quillin ducked him, etc
It took him a long time to even get someone like Jacobs in the ring with him, it looked as if he could get more meaningful fights after that
but then an undersized ginger faced him and beat him, and took the wind out of his career's sails
Then he lost any interest in legacy fights and only wanted to fight bums while waiting for another paycheck by Canelo
He was already out of prime by then, so it's understandable
he'll go down in history as another what if, if he hadn't been so avoided in his prime
Wilder never fought the top guys during his title reign. It was inhouse PBC fighting. GGG was not ducking anyone anytime in his weight class.
Then again, Wilder fought against relatively bigger guys than GGG, while G was always physical stronger man come fightnight, because of that 160 limit that suited his body perfectly.
What Wilder did took more guts so I have to go with Wilder.
The heavyweight.
Mexican style fraud's whole career is blood sucking Canelo for money.
That was about neck and neck now
Wilder can still finish with a blaze of glory. AJ, Joyce, Ruiz, Fury 4 (bad match up but great fights with guys on the canvas heavyweight style), Sanchez and maybe DDD.
Depends on how Wilder wants to go out. You can take defeats in the heavyweight division. It's more about them fighting each other.
Golovkin has more wins against TBRB or Ring Magazine ranked opponents in a much better weight class and he has more wins against current or former world titlists.
So yeah, it's GGG and it's not particularly close.
