I know this may be Extremely controversial but do we really want to clean the sport up? If it's true that 80/90% of elite fighter are on some form of PED's imagine how talentless the sport would look removing all those fighters.
There's literally whole divisions with only 2 or 3 fighters that you can consider elite. Would our new Standard of elite be idk European level? Would we still even watch?
I don’t get why they don’t just let everyone use them, is it cause people can overuse them which can cause deaths?
Cause you either have to let nobody use them or everyone use them, and it seems impossible to stop everyone from using them so certain people gain unfair advantage
Don't need drugs to die or get fubar'd for life being a boxer.
In the known history of roids, trace amounts of users have died from them.
Not everyone will use roids, just like everyone isn't smoking weed just because it's legal now.
That's exactly what the tests do. They separate ok peds from not ok peds. You can take plenty of stuff that is legal and becomes illegal at certain levels - for example caffeine. It's an arbitrarily drawn line but if you didn't have that, I'm confident all fighters would be on some kind of PEDs.
I think Benn v Eubank Jnr almost gives you the perfect approach. Guidelines in place, but have testing take place and let the fighters decide if it's a significant advantage or not. They already decide on weight, hydration and all other manner of advantages/disadvantages. Why not let them resolve issues of PEDs? Their teams are far better qualified to understand the significance of something in a fighter's system.
I don't know much about what Benn took, but I know Eubank's medical team looked at it and considered it to not be significant enough an advantage to cancel the fight.
Yes true, and there lays the problem with such a grey area, everybody could be said to be on peds par-se in some way or form, but only a few will be on banned peds, look at Manny with his Toradol use, not banned but a very strong ped effect in sport, its a case of we have no choice but to go along with the testing we have; its not perfect but its way better than nothing, although I do believe it is a strong deterrent across the board which is about all we can hope for.
Boxing should control the usage.
Find out scientifically what adverse IN FIGHT affects drugs cause to an opponent.
If a cvnt still goes out of the sport, lifetime ban. No if's about it.
Drugs don't win fights.
What evidence do you have they are all on Peds, what specific peds and who is all.
Any test is always beatable, but the testing can also sink your boat, so I see the majority being clean and the minority using peds, Im talking heavy-duty peds that enhance performance way above a slight improvement in conditioning.
I think ped use is exaggerated in sports, not saying there isn't a problem just think the Ped user label is used too flippantly in fandom.

What makes you think head injuries sky rocket if they stop PED testing? You realize they are all on PEDs right now ?? The test are worthless.

If anything goes drug wise then the power across the board goes up a lot, and when that happens the head injuries would skyrocket, the more aggressive and physical a fighter is naturally the more he will benefit from PEDS, boxing is very much a power hurt game.
I think the word PED is over-emphasised and to much blanket throwing and not being categorized on a scale, they are not all equal and a synthetic vitamin is by definition a performance-enhancing drug, on top of this the finger-pointing is out of control where a great athlete will get his career torn down because they cant be that good it has to be Peds and around it goes, every guy that is really good will be get labelled by the haters as using peds, we don't know for sure and that not knowing allows all the BS to run rampert.
Id like somebody to define exactly what is a PED and what is not a PED because they is a massive grey area where it goes from creating advanced health and fitness to creating superman.

Just stop drug testing and let people take whatever they want. They are doing it anyways.
Most people dont even understand what is happening. First if you remember balco and Mosley, those guys never failed a single test, they only saw their names on the books after they raided balco headquarters.
If you look at recent example with Benn, you realize they didnt actually pop him for steroids (the actual Performance enhancer), he got caught with the estrogen blocker you take at the tale end of the cycle. So whatever testing was done if any during the training camp... he passed all of those while he was taking the actual steroids. He only got caught on the very end. Its like driving 100 miles speeding the whole time and only getting pulled over the final mile, you almost got away with it.
So this whole who failed a test and who passed the test is pointless meaningless argument, they are all on PEDs and 99% of the time they pass the testing.

That's the big issue for me. No-one is getting caught juicing (well, Jarrell Miller maybe but he was either dumb or looking for a way out).
We're catching people on technicalities. Why are we not actually catching them juicing?
The testing seems to be so flawed as to be worthless.
tif peds are legalized (all of them) that is when the playing field becomes level.
only a small handful get the advantage while the rest of the field is at a disadvantage.
yes i guess u have a level playing field if all are legal, would that not create a situation where it comes down to quantity then and some willing to take huge risks to become a hulk like character to win, cant see how that would go down well, noone would fight that top roided hulk who has probably compromised their heart or liver or whatever to get there
the truth is we have no stats on % that are doing peds, it could be a small group or it could be 50% or more & all sorts of various quantities and substances
edit: lol at the ********
IMHO there are 2 groups of elite athletes , those that use PEDs and have got caught and those that use PEDs and have not been caught. IDC to TBH taking PEDs will not make you a great athlete , most take PEDs to deal with injuries . Bonds was a HOF before the PEDs notice how no one talks about the guys juicing who remained average .
Boxing is an endurance sport, Its more intense in this aspect than all the big sports out there, even soccer. You are 3 minutes on, 1 minute off, for 47 minutes straight. If you arent on PEDs for endurance like EPO, Cardarine and whatever other chit that is out there that the general public never heard of, you will NOT be competitive at the elite level.
Regarding PEDs in the sport...the fight that comes to mind for me is the final installment of the Pacquiao/Marquez series. I suspect both were juiced to gills, certainly Marquez. I remember him looking massive in there.
They had every sign of PED use there, mass gain, enlarged traps and delts. Back acne, giant heads. Everything. They both passed all their PED testing.
So just stop testing its pointless.

plus a lot of close fights are determined by the championship rounds, whoever fights them best/strongest often wins so a lot of these boosters target endurance, like cyclists who need that, u are on the right peds u will finish strongest in a lot of cases
It’s important to remember PED’s don’t improve ability or skill set they just improve physical attributes. It could actually lead to more exciting fights. Fighters would not hit as hard but they’d in turn likely be able to take more shots. A slower pace in fights could lead to a higher quality exchanges too. Not saying this would necessarily be the case but I don’t think boxing without PED’s would hurt the quality of the sport. The vast majority of elite fighters would still be elite fighters.
BUT if they ALL on it ? Then what the heck
yeah and 'it' varies too, from weight loss helpers, to the stuff say BJS was caught for, legal in one jurisdiction & banned in another to nelos clen which can be found in meat etc, whole range of substances that can boost performance, id personally say the majority of guys are/have been on something at some stage to build themselves up, the temptation and money rewards are too great to resist at times i would say
peds certainly make some better but u have to have a level playing field and its dangerous too, there will always be top guys, just clean top guys if they test right all the time as they should do
The thing is according to many in the know , 8 or 9 out of 10 guys are on PED's . That's like saying look at all the top 10 list in every division and remove 8 or 9 of em .
As it is I already think boxing lacks talent and if it's true that many are on the stuff idk if boxing would have enough talent left. I used to be so against PED's cause I want to know who truly is the best on an equal playing field. Who likes cheaters you know?
