Is Canelo on the decline?

Or was this a script fight? Both guys missing and not really doing anything at all?

He’s had 70 pro fights and he’s a 5-8 guy fighting at 168 and 175. He’s getting a little worn. He should take a few months and just rest and heal up.

I don't think so tbh and if he has declined, its only by a little bit. Too many people were on the hype train after Canelo beat all these guys at 168(and Kovalev) thinking that Canelo was peaking when he was fighting guys who were just a level below. I mean even this old GGG would have good chance of beating Plant and BJS.

Yeah, he's starting to decline. He's about where GGG was when he fought Canelo the 1st time. Still dangerous, but no longer as dangerous.

He looked the way he should look against an opponent that knows him very well. Canelo's game is good head movement, shifting, setting up combos, and brutal power. GGG is just a tough match-up for Canelo. That said, of course he's going to decline in the coming years. He's been fighting a long time and he's 32.

If GGG and Canelo aren't "that good" then no one is good, since these two guys would demolish anyone in 168 160. He doesn’t look as hard to beat as he once did. He doesn’t seem to box in the same way. Loads up, is less accurate and seems that his reflexes might not be quite what they were. Thoughts? What’s your first clue? His age? 32 is far past a man’s prime Especially a athlete.

He was fighting hurt, so there's that. Honestly, these guys are so good that I can't say he's on the decline. It's like Golovkin said: This is the highest level of boxing. Alvarez respected his power and rightfully so because he was buckled a couple times. Canelo looked like he still has his speed. He still looks formidable. This was a chess match. Just like they are saying.

When I detect a decline it's usually when a guy doesn't respond the way he would've prior not because they were confused mentally or a style issue but because PHYSICALLY the body CAN'T perform the tasks. Example, GGG is definitely on the decline at 40 he's physically not as capable as he was in their 1st fight, far less than when he was facing the Gregorz Proksa's of the world. THAT to me is a declining fighter, he can no longer be what we know him to be even against lesser opposition. He looked the same to me, he was just swinging for the fences and he’s never measured his pace. His stamina/pacing issues have been apparent since the Austin Trout fight. Hes gassed in every big fight that’s gone the distance. He’s not declining he’s just been a finished product at this point.

Absolutely. He is. Add the fact that he isn't taking boxing as serious as he did is also a factor to his diminisding abilities. Apparently, his new passion is golf Go figure

canelo doesnt have oscar with him anymore and it shows in his fights... canelo was never that good. he was just matched with the right opponents, aka james kirkland and amir khan type guys...

No. Combination of the opponent and his style has changed a bit over time. Canelo had a lot of respect for GGG last night and stuck to his gameplan. Even when they traded a bit down the stretch Canelo was constantly moving out of the pocket and resetting. Also Canelo in general boxes a bit more than he did say pre-GGG II, and the name of the game last night was to get off with speed and not give GGG any opportunities. Canelo only somewhat did away with that when it was clear he had the fight in the bag and GGG wasn't showing the ability to trouble Canelo at all.

I think he is starting to feel the efdects of aging for sure. Of course, if you put him with a subpar fighter he'll look good but when he has to fight for it, we will see the real Canelo.
