You had a pretty high level chess match between two top guys tonight. It was a complete tactical chess match the first half of the fight.
The latter half, Canelo gassed a bit and GGG used his stamina edge to take most of those rounds, as was surely his gameplan.
Canelo's gameplan was to start quickly as the younger, fresher man and try and pick up the early rounds.
Tonight you had two high level guys actually BOXING for most of the fight, and many on here are saying the fight was terrible. GGG boxed smartly the first half of the fight and people say he looked old and slow lol. He fought smartly and those rounds were not blowouts at all. Canelo executed his gameplan well, but it did cause him to gas, as expected.
Too many emotional people on here to have much real boxing analysis going on.
If OP's "chess match" depiction were true, we would see GGG making Canelo pay for his missing haymakers but the "shot GGG" theory is more accurate description of the fight, because GGG sat there and looked at the missed Canelo haymakers and just though whew glad I didnt have to eat that one.
OP off his rocker.
GGG is clearly shot. It was not competitive like the first two fights because his timing and speed are gone.
He threw with zero power because he was afraid to commit to his shots because of canelo's quick counters. Canelo was swinging for the fences because he was going for the KO like he promised, he would miss and GGG would see the missed shot but not even try to counter it because his reflexes are slown. 5 years ago he would make Canelo pay for those misses. He also would press the fight and get off first not trying to wait for counters and then not even take them when they are there.
GGG was there to survive and that was it. The gap between them in speed and reflexes was bigger than ever before.
GGG will no longer be competitive with anybody with speed. Anyone who is a slower human punching bag, think a JCC Jr. type, he would still be able to pulverize in his old age because he would still be able to load up on.
The only "chess match" here was GGG not opening up that much so he could make it to the end of the fight.
A third fight was necessary you have guys like inside the thread here who would continue the debate, the fight is over it’s time to move on .
Only one’s that are mad are probably the ones who paid for it and it wasn’t the fight they expected ,which was not exactly warranted I hope it flopped like the Ortiz fight but I’m sure it did well . Only way they keep putting over priced fights is if we keep getting them .
Definitely a high price. I could have stomached $50 flat but $85. No way, I'll just watch it the next day or stream it.
It pretty much was where the 2nd fight left off which I guess we all should have expected. Canelo plays around Golovkins probing jab and left hand, always getting off first. I think most people thought he should have been throwing varied power shots with his right hand. But he didn't again and Canelo made it look easy. I think Jonathan Banks was a left handed orthodox fighter? Maybe he trains Golovkin in that method.
I don't see the logic that Canelo always got off first when the punch stats were very even in almost every round, to my eye. And throwing combos and right hands against a fast, quick great counter puncher is not easy lol. GGG landed his jabs but Canelo also slipped a lot or beat GGG inside and got inside and threw some power shots. It was a good boxing match.
I didn't see a continuation of the 2nd fight. The 2nd fight, GGG was pouring it on late. I saw a similar fight styles wise to the first 2. Canelo starts faster as the younger and quicker man. GGG pours it on late once Canelo's stamina wilts, which wilts in large part because of GGG's presence and pace throughout the fight.
Do you create one of these “I’m the only one who knows a phucking thing about boxing” threads after every ggg fight? We get it, you’re a ggg ball gagger. Spin it however you like but ggg lost and it wasn’t close.
Yeah I think it's evident that 98% of people on here have no clue about what they are seeing or how to score fights. This is a board of boxing casuals and fanboys to be completely honest.
The judges had it extremely close, in a Canelo fight. I saw you in another thread trashing someone for saying the cards were too close as well?
How can someone make that statement and then come on here to this thread and make the comments you just made?
Because you're a fanboy and not a boxing fan. You have a vested interest in promoting certain fighters, and denigrating other fighters that aren't a part of your tribe.
You want to take as much credit away from guys like Canelo and GGG because in your mind it makes 'your' fighters look better.
You are a pathetic person and not someone I have respect for on any level. I don't discuss boxing with people who are too emotional and name call when someone has a different view or opinion. So save that garbage next time and move on.
Keep playing your little racist game in boxing and leave the analysis of the sport to the few of us who don't have any self-esteem issues champ.

I think part of the reason is that we have the other two fights to compare this one to. The last two, especially the second one, were edge of your seat fights. This one was different. It was a different Golovkin. No doubt. At least from rounds three to seven. He typically starts slow, so it is what it is. But he did get gun shy for whatever reason. And then, out of the blue, the old Golovkin returned. He even wobbled or buckled Canelo a couple times, something I don't recall him ever doing before. He literally buckled Canelo a couple times.
Then Canelo was on point again. I thought we'd see a slower Canelo but his speed is still there. It really is. His counters were wicked fast. But he too was fighting more cautiously than in the last fight. But there were moments were he caught Golovkin and surprised him. Made him a little gun shy.
The fight was a tactical match for the first half and then it came alive in the end. Trying to top their second fight is near impossible, but it was good. I don't regret buying the PPV. It was a moment in history.
He had to be cautious early, because of Canelo's speed and quickness. Not just with his hands but his movement overall. Canelo used a lot of energy early to stay out of range and win the distance battle for large periods of the early rounds.
GGG had to rely on finding him with the jab when he could, and hope that he could land enough solid jabs to slow Canelo, or hope that Canelo slowed enough on his own for GGG to be able to settle in a bit more and start throwing bigger shots. For Canelo to be not as much of a moving target.
Idk, just played out about as I expected so I guess I wasn't surprised.
You don’t seem to have eyes
GGG at 40 ‘is clearly a diminished fighter’
Crappy end to a trilogy 4 years too late
I think we might be seeing some decline in Canelo as well.
He boxed cautiously behind the jab. It's a smart gameplan, and one he generally employs against a strong fighter.
This wasn't Loma-Lopez where Loma hardly threw a punch for 7 rounds lol. The highest punch outputs were like 15 to 11 or something in any one round. It was a boxing match, I would assume boxing fans would have appreciated it and understood it but I don't think there are a ton of real boxing heads on here to be honest.
Meh. I wasn't emotional about it at all. I didn't want to even see these two fight again.
If it was all GGG strategy to give away 75% of the fight until he finally did something, that's his prerogative but it wasn't entertaining.
I think it was more of a strategy because he knows he's old and shot to save some energy for the later rds but it was way too late at that point. I don't care what the judges scored it, it wasn't close.
I disagree about giving away 75% of the rounds lol. He boxed, cautiously, and Canelo boxed cautiously in those rounds as well. There wasn't a ton of action either way. It was a high level boxing match and it's sad to see people diminish that really. Just seems very casual to be honest. I expected more from this board.
