I was starting to really like Canelo in the last few years but his overconfidence/ ego really turned me off when he started talking about fighting Usyk and his vitriol for Golovkin seems way out of proportion to what is reasonable. Also he said post interview at his fight with Bivol that he thought he won. I still like Canelo and he's a great fighter but I want to see Golovkin beat him.
Anything can happen, even though GGG has looked slower and less menacing these last few years. It would shake the boxing world if Golovkin KO's Canelo.
Canelo body looked far better than in the Bivol fight. G looked very good for a 40 year old but it’s not his best look.
Id say Canelo’s true boxing weight right now is 164.
I see the first half of the fight going back and forth, the middle rounds is where someone has to take the lead but eventually in the tenth round Alvarez catches Golovkin with a body shot and it’s all down hill for Golovkin. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Alvarez go down in the early rounds either, that’s when Golovkin is going to be the sharpest and quickest and if he sees that split second opportunity he’ll take it for sure. I see Alvarez just being too fast and sharp this time around
I think GGG will try to frustrate Nelo with his stiff jabs and by attacking intelligently when there's an opening and not engaging too long for Nelo's counters... Question now if GGG can hold his footing when Nelo is on the offensive mode (I think GGG can...) ... Frustration (and empty gas tank) leads to Nelo's defeat...
GGG by late stoppage.
Canelo has been getting A LOT slower, far lower work rate while GGG's is going up. I feel GGG is in better shape fitness wise than he was even before.
Canelo may come out strong in the first few rounds to try and take GGG down, but he will get frustrated by getting that 40 year old Jab in his face and start to break down mentally like he did vs Bivol.
UNLIKE Bivol however, GGG CAN close out a fight and would push Canelo, rather than being content with going to the score cards (Bivol).
It will be competitive for first 5-6 rounds. After that canelo will cruise to the win.
unfortunately by the last ggg fights, he is no longer that relentless fighter cutting ring 24/7 and pressing
Crazy how my mind works.
Canelo should win. In his prime, coming off a motivating loss that has a ton of people doubting him, he has a ton of experience for 168, and the man has dug up every possible motivating factor he can to drum up his own motivation. He has talked himself into hating Golovkin and wanting to punish him for every disrespectful thing Trip G has done, real or imagined. I just cannot honestly justify picking against Alvarez in a wide decision since I do not think anyone from 154 to 168 can knock out Golovkin. It just feels like everything is in his favor.
But.... why do I FEEL like Golovkin will win?
I will roll with my gut. Golovkin connects with his devastating jabs early, gets Canelo a little hesitant, scores a flash knockdown in the mid rounds, and wins a split decision.
I do not know why.
Saw the weigh in. Golovkin didn’t look like he did vs Murata. Checked vada, Golovkin Murata had under 1 month testing. This fight has had nearly 4 months testing. Oh boy.
I'm going to wait until tonight. I'm waiting to see what my girlfriend says. She works as a psychic (don't make fun). She's been right about past fights I have asked her, so I want to see what she says.
So no one has changed their predictions.
It's still a 50/50 fight for me, though the younger guy should win in flying colors.
Can't wait to see the fight, not necessarily the outcome.
