You all remember when Wilder was waxing poetic about the value of loyalty,
even mentioning Floyd being with the right people as justification to turning down
and ignoring DAZN's multi million dollar offers.
Then Showtime Espinoza suddenly no longer want any part of Wilder's fights.
Which was strange because they're the ones who promoted the Bronze Bomber from day one.
CBS even added some weight to it.
Just imagine if this happened in the UK. There'll be hundreds of articles
squeezing every drop of detail out of the story. It's still a mystery here in the US.
That's true. Espinoza is a huge fan of the HW division. He used to be a huge fan of Joshua. The Showtime boss wanted to keep Wilder but the price has gotten too steep because DAZN has screwed everything up. That's why Stephen's hate for Hearn is legendary. It goes way back years even before the AJ/Wilder controversy. Showtime used to air Matchroom fights, remember, particularly HW fights? I don't know exactly what went wrong with his relationship with Hearn, which used to be cordial.
I have totally forgotten about that.
And I believe, if I'm not mistaken, I watched the AJ vs Klitschko fight
on Showtime and on a lazy afternoon. Sweeeet Caroline, pam pam pam...
You could be right on that aspect, but it's obvious when Wilder was talking about
loyalty, and then Floyd being on the right team, he's thinking of Showtime, not Fox.

Wilder is loyal to Finkel and Haymon, and therefore loyal to PBC.
Finkel is the most successful manager in the history of heavyweight boxing and Haymon is the most successful manager in the history of boxing period.
When Canelo and GGG both got screwed by DAZN and DAZN refused to pay them what was owed, you don't think Wilder was thankful that Finkel & Haymon protected him and didn't commit him to a network that screws their fighters?
When Hearn offered Wilder $12.5 million to travel to the UK and fight Joshua in enemy territory, where Joshua had a rematch clause if he lost, but Wilder didn't have a rematch clause if he lost, you don't think Wilder was thankful that Finkel & Haymon got him $14 million to fight Fury at home instead where he'd have a rematch clause if he lost?
Wilder has been managed perfectly and so he will always stay loyal to PBC.
Any insight as to whether FOX will continue/invest into PBC beyond the end of the year?
The deal has worked very well for FOX and I expect them to continue. They found the winning formula, using football to hype four PPVs a year, with undercard airing on FOX and FS1. The rest of the year, they air old fights on FS1 and FS2 to fill time. It's not a major commitment and it brings in guaranteed revenue.
Dazn offered Wilder $20m for Brezeale. Showtime had to pay up and it was around $10m which was crazy money. They lost a lot on that and then decided it wasn't worth doing the Wilder-Ortiz fight. The Fury 3 fight was espn wasn't it? im assuming because Fury was A side.
Espinoza is a complete idiot. The guy had the chance to make AJ-Wilder back for the September 2018 date, but allowed Canelo GGG to get scheduled only 2 weeks before their proposed fight, asked eddie to move the fight to october (and thus, Wembley stadium was out of the question, october is a very wet month). The fight fell apart.
This is a lie.
Fox and Showtime have shared Wilder for many years.
PBC's contract with FOX requires them to provide FOX with four pay-per-views per year. Usually heavyweights when possible as FOX feels heavyweights benefit the most from promotion on FOX during football games.

Market forces will dictate the purses levels.
Business in boxing is not based on charity and stupidity.
Unfortunately for regular networks, DAZN is not based on traditional business models. They don't mind being charitable and stupid at this point.

No. Wilder was still undefeated when Showtime dropped him.

So then with Fox becoming their one and only option, you'd expect Wilder's team
making significant adjustments for their unrealistic demands. Hence, Fox would be
too stupid to give them their original demands knowing they have no other choices.
That's interesting. I always assumed it happened after he lost to Fury. Fox is about to get out of the boxing business after this year, I think. Do they still have fights lined up for 2023?
Yeah. I agree. I think that's one aspect that's hurting the sport, that the top boxer's financial demands are too much. Guys are getting overpaid. I'm definitely one for guys getting paid as much as possible, but Haymon has ruined things with his unreasonable purse demands, setting up a precedent that guys should be making multimillions when they fight.
That's the PBC/Showtime MO. If you lose, then you have no market value. It's a network and promotional company embodying the Floyd Mayweather Jr. effect.

Who really cares? It was obvious SHO couldn't compete with the same offers thrown around by DAZN.
If you ask me, I'd rather see purses go back to their normal levels. I see Wilder getting around $900K in the Helenius fight, for example. That's more manageable to negotiate if you're one of these networks' executives.
