Here are the punch stats. Hrgovic out jabbed and out landed Zhang . The haters are out in full in full force, but of you score the fight round by round you will come up with the right winner. Zhang showed good defense and power, and fought an off focus Hrgovic who didn't show up for any pre-fight stuff. Something was bothering him. Maybe Zhang's southpaw style. The knock down was a cuffing blow behind the head / combination push down. Not chin or balance related.
Boxing annoys me, I've not seen the fight but I've already formed opinion Zhang shouldve won?
I know if I watch fight i will agree flip won and judges got it right
The fight, the full variety is on you tube. Watch it, it was a good fight. Hrgovic won it by 7-8 rounds including sweep of the last three rounds. Instead of saying Hrgovic sucks, I see it that he was the victim of a lucky knock down against / push for a blow behind the head, and had to overcome a bad clash of heads and move around a soggy ring vs a top 15ish southpaw with a lot of power and sneaky quick hands. Questions were answered about his heart, long term stamina and chin, IF fans are honest. No-- Zhang did not win. I gave Zhang the 1st, 3rd, 5th and 9th rounds. Four rounds. Hrgovic won the rest.
I thought Hrgovic won, Zhang wasn't busy enough and Hrgovic banked the rounds on workrate.
With that said he looked terrible! Stiff as a board, painfully slow feet, arm-punching and winging slaps. His stamina was bad, his work forced and his defense consisted of him putting his head down.
Still no idea why so many are so high on him. He's even worse than I originally thought tbh
Hrgovic has an elite amateur pedigree, but he is still green as a pro. This was the first really tough fight in his life. And even Zhang took him to the deep waters...
Hrgovic must improve his cardio, it is far from being great. And better and younger guys won`t give him all that extra time in the middle of the fight to recover.
Even Hrgovic has admitted that as much. Other than NSB and maybe Croatia, Hrgovic doesn't have a fan base. Other than his IBF ranking, he brings nothing to the table for opponents to to want to fight him.
He is high risk because of his size, pedigree and power but he's no bogeyman of the division. He gets hit cleanly far too much and he can't rely on his future opponents to completely gas out after 6 rounds.
Nope , he ain’t no boogeyman
At least not anymore

GGG landed more jabs than Nelo, but Nelo landed power punches which supposedly made the difference? But if Flip landed more power punches than zhang i guess Flip deserved win.
That's good point actually. In addition to the one slip that ended with Zhang doing a near split, he lost his footing at least several other time and was noting it to the ref. He seemed to move away from the center of the ring sometimes for no other reason than to avoid the slippery logo.
As I was watching that fight, I wondered why there haven't been any developments in the use of anti-slip logos for boxing rings. I can't imagine it would be terrible hard to incorporate some grit into it.
Yeah, that's what I was noticing too. He was moving into areas of the ring that he was less effective in, purely to avoid slipping. Must have been very frustrating for him. Hrgovic has much better balance than Zhang, so whilst not ideal for him either, it would have been less of a problem, as I felt it completely affected Zhang's gameplan, positioning, and mindset. I could see he was frustrated with it.
To me, a rematch makes sense. Hrgovic, whilst he got the win, provided more questions than answers, and Zhang clearly became less effective, massively in part, due to the surface. You'd think that after this they will have to consider options for that. I mean, this was one fight before Usyk vs Joshua 2. Imagine that chaos in a fight on that level. Nash out.
Right so this was Hrgovic's test. He faced a big puncher, and he came through it.
Also he showed a decent level of aggression.
It was aggression and lack of offensive determination, that lost Joshua his rematch vs Usyk.
Hrgovic seems like a good solid fighter, but I have not witnessed anything super elite from him.
Solid fighter.
As I was watching the last 4-5 rounds, as the ring was wetter and wetter, I felt it effected Zhang more. I felt it stopped him loading up with more big swings sometimes as his balance wasn't there anymore. I'd hate to fight in a slippy ring, surely more could have been done in between rounds? Nash out.

Doesn't make it a symptom of a concussion.
it shows damage.
anyone with a brain can see Zhang was landing the harder, more damaging blows. it is irrefutable. the only argument HRG crowd have is punchstats by a smidge. Zhang was bullying Hrg around.

I felt it could have gone either way, but now all power shots are equal, and one thing is for sure, Zhang's power shots were harder and more effective than Hrgovic's. So, that could be an argument, especially as the punch stats were not massively wide in Hrgovic's favour. Nash out.
Problem was Zhang needed a breather after every time he landed. Forgetting you are in a fight and walking away from the exchange with your hands down isn't exactly taking shots well. He didn't go down after the first round, I will give him credit, but Zhang lost that fight more than anything else.

What do you consider visible damage?
Zhangs power wasn't effecting him much. The effect of power gets scored and there was very little.
Hrg going zombie mode after getting hit. Sometimes dropping his arms and just walking away with his back to his opponent. that is visible momentary concussion.
he did that many times in the fight. that's worth more than a few slapping jabs.
he's lucky Zhang was gassed and old af.
Duck him ?
Really ?
The only reason is cause he’s got nothing to offer and yes I’ll give him that , he’s high risk

Bit Hrgovic obviously took all that shots pretty well and recovered each time.

Who tf scores fights off compubox data?? This has got to be the most desperate attempt I've seen yet. Might as well get rid of judges and go by compubox from here on out then. Lame.
