After Caleb's loss to Canelo, he has been quite low key. There were rumors of Caleb coming back to fight Dirrell, but that dwindled away. Since then, no updates or anything tangible at all.
Yet, he has mentioned coming back in certain interviews to face the 'top names'.
My personal take is that he WILL NOT fight Benavidez next, which I think is a fight overdue.
I am not sure if he will be the same after the Canelo loss mainly because the layoff. The momentum is fading away and how many fighters have fallen off after their first loss in their careers.
I am not necessarily saying Plant will fall off, but he may just not be the same again.
Your thoughts.
I like his chance against Jermall at 168. He can outbox him. Andrade is different story. He is still unproven at his almost 35. Saunders would expose him badly but cancelled. Then, Zach Parker fight postponed smh.. Andrade never likes pure boxers. Plant is pure boxer.
Canelo and Benavidez 100% beats him. Ryder has a chance. 160 lbers are fantasy. They need proof.
Very well said.
Yeah good point man, Andrade has a sad mediocre career and it is hard to believe he even has a belt at 160 with that type of competition his whole freaking career.
He probably fights Dirrell in the fall or something, I like Plant and there are interesting fights for him with Charlo, Benavidez and Morrell. Him and Charlo is a 50/50 fight I think and I can see him possibly out boxing Charlo, but I think Benavidez and Morrell both would both seem like tall orders. Canelo isn't going to keep all those belts forever and if they get scattered I can see PBC maneuvering all these guys into positions to have winnable fights to pick up vacant belts, so I don't think it's out of the question.
Interesting way of breaking it down
Yeah I can see that possible. But sadly, I don't even think Plant Charlo even happens either seeing how Charlo has been acting really suspect for a while now.
Good point, I do think Morrell has a really good chance of beating Plant also. As for Benavidez, he smashes Plant I think.

He will get cycled with other PBC fighters until some opportunity shows up.
Yeah, it is most likely he will get fed the type of fighters he had his whole career before Canelo.
Possibly, the 168lb division has historically always been a weak division. If Golovkin was to defeat Canelo, he most likely gets stripped by at least one organization because of politics. There's also the chance he drops all the belts and moves back down to 160lbs leaving all the titles vacant. If that were to happen and there's a chance a bunch of 2nd tier fighters will be becoming champions.
Very good point.
Sounds like that would be the only way in which Plant would have a chance at becoming champ in the division once again.
And I see that chance very very slim of becoming a reality definitely.
He is talented guy. He is the most naturally talented 168 lber behind Canelo imo. He can box and has skill set. But, he hasn't enough power. Benavidez KOs him just like Nelo. Even Ryder can outbrawl him inside. If Andrade and Charlo move up, Plant can fight them.
Well said.
Yet with all them attributes that you mentioned, I don't even think he beats Andrade, nor Charlo and much less Videz.
I like Plant, but I don't think he becomes champ again anytime soon in the division with all them names. Tough outing definitely.

I just wonder if he's going to fight again period. Hope he doesn't turn into an angry drunk and start beating his announcer wife.
I mean, it is hard to say.
I think he will come back but, that Canelo check really seemed to make him complacent.
In these situations it's not about wether he could be. He just won't be given another opportunity. He was never really a business A side fighter so he adds no monetary value to a fight and trying to get back as a mandatory takes too long. Same goes for anyone Canelo removed from the 168 pound rankings. Callum Smith for example is unlikely to get another shot unless either Yarde or Buatsi win at 175 and try to milk a Wembley PPV defense.
Once Canelo brought money into the division...no namers got driven out.
Wow interesting breakdown.
I didn't see it like that. And quite accurate too!
Sounds like that is what may very well happen

With Jacobs, Andrade, Benavidez, Canelo, and possibly Charlo (if he decides to move up) sharking the waters at 168 =---> I can't see Plant holding a world title.
I honestly don't either man.
I really like Plant but looking at all this as logically as possible, I think you are right definitely.
No. As long as Canelo and Benavidez are at 168, Plant will never hold a belt ever again.
I agree man.
Pretty clear and to the point. I think he can be among the top 5 but not champ with them names you just mentioned.
