I was watching the highlights again and I think Canelo was having some success in the first 4 rounds. I'm not saying he won them all or anything like that.
The moment he stupidly started to aim for the arms instead of scoring blows, he lost the fight. It was ridiculous.
I'm not saying he could have won. But maybe it could have been a closer fight. Who knows.
lol it wasnt deliberate or was it some tactic of his to hit fresh air aswell? he couldnt hit bivol clean the same way he couldnt hit mayweather clean- because they were levels above him and he was completely out of his depth.
Weren’t you leaving NSB forever if Bivol beat Canelo?
I agree, I think trying to punch the arm was a poor tactical choice against Bivol but at the same time Canelo didn't look like he was beating Bivol that night no matter what.
If you read my first post.. it's basically almost the same I said.
fair enough just think some people are over analysing it/making excuses saying hes too old, blaming his vegan diet, too small, saying he got his tactics wrong. fact is he wasnt good enough and never will be. put him in with caleb plant, rocky fielding etc and he will look like 'prime canelo' again

I'm pretty sure it was a tactic to take away the jab from Bivol. He did it to Smith successfully but Bivol was too big and strong to be slowed down by that. I don't think that really works if your opponent is bigger than you and muscular like Bivol.
He might have tried also that but I saw him trying arms much, much more.
Part of that was because Canelo and the Reynoso team look to throw hooks which was the only real success he was having against Bivol. Canelo figured to get past Bivol's Winky Wright by doing the same thing he did to Callum Smith, but little did he know of how durable Bivol was.
this. canelo tried many ways to break the guard. uppercuts, hook around the guard, straight down the middle to split it, hooks to the body, all blocked or bivol stepping back out of his range. this happened over and over again the whole night then canelo out of ideas tried to rope a dope him to get some countering opportunities and bivol didnt fall for it and refused to open up when he was well ahead on the cards.
Was really amazing to watch that he was able to defend against practically everything Canelo threw at him and never leaving the game plan
That’s the thing, Canelo tried to continue with the body shots and head shots but Bivol got his timing down and started to neutralize them. This happened with the jab, body shots and even the uppercuts.

Canelo started hitting whatever was available to him because Bivol was landing a lot of his own shots and he was bullying Canelo at times to show that he wasn't going to be walked over. Canelo experienced a big guy who wasn't willing to back off and just box...Bivol would pick and choose his times to bully and fight but he wasn't going to lay back and be hunted all night like Saunders and Plant. Canelo also mentioned that he felt Bivol's power...that seemed to be a factor to some degree.
