This is the 2nd time Canelo has lost due to his teams biting off more than they can chew.
Against Mayweather, Canelo was too young and too green. He simply was not ready for someone that was slippery with so much experience.
Here we are again, jumping up to light heavyweight and fighting a massive guy, too big for Canelo. Canelo didn’t have the power or size to be in there.
If Canelo would “arrive” to permanent 175lb status and was going to fill in and gain the weight, acclimate, then sure, let’s take the fight after working our way up.
Eddie Reynoso I feel sometimes thinks Canelo is Superman and gets lost in the matchmaking.
Like it or not, this is two high profile fights within weeks of each other that the Reynosos lost. I don't know if they underestimated Shakur and Bivol or if they simply had two bad days in the office or both but the Reynosos need to examine what in camp went wrong. Now that I think of it, did anyone hear the corner instructions between rounds in the Canelo corner? I'm curious to know what the Reynosos were telling Canelo.
I’m surprised that nobody ever mentions that Canelo’s work rate and stamina always been his Achilles heel. Canelo’s punch out put mirrors the average heavyweight punch output. He not active at all and if he ever fought a fighter like Benevidez he will drown late in the fight.
Benevidez will have Canelo on the ropes huffing and puffing throwing punches that look like he’s underwater and stop him late.
He just got beat by a better fighter. Saying he underestimated Bivol makes excuses for Canelo and take credit away from Bivol. The flaws he has always had were exposed by a technically sound and very skilled boxer. He was able to get away with it because no one was able to expose them with the exception of Floyd, GGG and Lara (his toughest fights). If there a rematch, it can be at 168 or 175. The outcome will be the same unless the judges pull off what they almost did Saturday night. If they were to ever rumble again then Bivol would beat his ass some more and perhaps even stop him. With hindsight being 20/20; Canelo should have taken the fight and deal with both Benavidez and the PBC in the first place. I like his chances a whole lot better now against them after his being exposed by Dmitry Bivol.

I am sorry but I'm not falling for the hook, line and sinker bullshit that Canelo was trying to do something amazing or was daring to be great. He just underestimated Dmitry Bivol that's all.
if he had any idea or clue that he would lose then he would have never taken this fight in the first place. Canelo took the fight with Bivol in order to avoid David Benavidez.
Also, because he thought that Dmitry would be just another easy fight like all of the rest of the Euro bums he has defeated since 2018.

Of course he thought he could beat Bivol. That's why he fought him.
What's so wrong with that?
You think he had no idea or clue he could lose? Do you think he's an absolute moron?
There were easier fights to take. He took a harder one. But, yes, he thought he could win. Obviously. There's nothing insightful about that comment at all.
Yes it is. Eddie Reynoso thought he was taking the path to least resistance by having his guy fighting a perceived lesser opponent in Dmitry Bivol; Even if it was at Light heavyweight in order to avoid good American fighters like David Benavidez and Jermall Charlo.
This fight wasn't about Canelo taking on challenges or fighting the very best. It was all about Reynoso and Hearn lining Canelo up with some very easy and winnable fights against Euro fighters like: Bivol and GGG who were not expected to win.

The PBC deal was much better and he and his camps are fools for not taking it. Charlo and Benavidez fights were much easier for him and would’ve been garnered more PPV attention. Now he lost to a complete unknown in a weight class he should’ve never been at.
Benavidez is a danger fight because he is capable of stopping Canelo, he won't sit back while Canelo is tired on the ropes, he will unload the clip. Bivol was a tough fight for different reasons but they thought Canelo would be competitive enough for the judges to do the rest of the work.
So what is worse for Canelo's career. Losing a decision at 175 , a division that is too big for him, or getting beat up and stopped by a mexican at 168? Pretty clear Bivol/GGG was still the best option.
He's not got much left to prove... he's already an ATG.
Losing, by trying to do something amazing, isn't 'on' anyone. It's what sportsmen are supposed to do - challenge yourself to be as great as you possibly can.
When Canelo retires, he won't wonder how far he could have gone. He's actually going to find out.I am sorry but I'm not falling for the hook, line and sinker bullshit that Canelo was trying to do something amazing or was daring to be great. He just underestimated Dmitry Bivol that's all.

"Canelo lost so it's bad matchmaking"
Do you people hear yourself sometimes? Stop making excuses for this guy. If was really THAT GUY he would have beaten Floyd and Bivol. But he's not that guy so here you are making excuses for him.
Did the same nonsense with Kell Brook too.
Short term it made financial sense but it also ruined Brook's career.
It was a mirror of the Brook/Golovkin scenario. GG/Bivol just clearly naturally too big for Brook/Nelo who were blown up at the weight.
100% correct
Yeah I kept saying in the buildup this was terrible match making. Low reward and high risk while putting Canelo at a weight disadvantage. He stopped a shopworn and unmotivated Kovalev and thought they could do the same to monsters like Bivol and Beter.

This was horrible matchmaking by Eddie Hearn who pushed for this fight Bivol at 175 for no other reason then he had no fighters at 168. There is no other promoter that makes the cash cow king go up in weight when you have so many bigger names and bigger fights that can be made at 168. They foolishly made canelo give up physical advantages and hurt Canelo's brand and wasted more money for DAZN who have been trying forever to recoup money lost on GGG and Canelo fights other guys but not each other. And Canelo and Reynoso heads were too big and allowed it a fight nobody asked for that Hearn jamned down their throats.

Sure, but we should applaud that.
most of us criticize the match making that has ruined boxing. In the 80s Duran got faceplanted, still an ATG.
crawfords best fights are Gamboa and gatekeeper Porter and we reward him with mythical P4P.
I’ll rather have Canelo type boxers.

What do you think Hearn did to make Canelo fight Bivol instead of Charlo or Benavides?
In one way I give Canelo props for taking fights he has no reason to but they inflated his ego with some debatable decisions over the years and some well thought out match ups.
Honestly Bivol was toying with him and canelo looked powerless in there
You and maybe 5 die hard fans. I'm talking casual fans. This is not a fight that was made because there was fan demand. Out of all the options available it was the least commercially viable opponent for Canelo to fight during Cinco De Mayo a unknown (to casual fans) Russian
Fortunately, Canelo was stupid enough to think he would also beat Usyk, lol lol.
I know what you mean. casuals demanded Charlo and Benavidez.
You are wrong. I asked for that, because I have always felt Bivol would be too much for ginger.
I was laughing all around when the fight was announced.

"You look at the fight with Craig Richards and Castillo before that, those performances didn't tell you that that form would beat Canelo Alvarez" Hearn
