Greatness is extremely subjective anyway.
If he fights and beats Usyk, then I think we can safely say he ended the era of the last dominant heavyweight (Wlad) and then was the dominant heavyweight of his own era. That’s really all you can do.
Also the problem with greatness is there’s a lot of nostalgia involved, that’s why you get people saying someone like Mike Tyson could beat Tyson Fury, the reality is he wouldn’t, It would be a huge uphill task in every way.
All you can be is the best of your time and everything after that is just fantasy.
I’m pretty confident Tyson Fury would beat any heavyweight in history head-to-head that’s why there is a distinct difference between best and greatness.
If the package of greatness includes long title reigns or fighting over a period of decades, then you can really take your pick on what you prefer…. but as far as being the best, there’s nobody in history I would confidently pick to beat him.
Even then that’s probably on fair on the guys in the past because they were different times, different training, different nutrition. If half of those old heavyweights were emerging today at 6’1 and 215lbs, they will probably be boiling down to cruiserweight anyway.
This is a logical post and as fan of boxing I have nostalgic moments too. I agree someone like Mike Tyson would have a serious problem against a man of Furys size and talent but on the other side of the coin Fury could have issues with a guy of Mike Tysons size and skill level as well but no one can deny if Fury wins undisputed he can be considered the best of this era without question
I would put him maybe 9 or 10 but, due to the current lack of current quality heavyweights, which is no fault of his, he is probably 10-15 all-time once he unifies the belts.
Fury is supposed to do well h2h, so if he retired without proving he's better h2h than Josh and usyk id penalise him.
If he beats Josh and usyk id put him top 5, even alongside Ali. If he only beats one of them id put him top 10
That’s why I said there’s a big difference between best and greatness.
for instance, I think Fury is a much better fighter than Wlad but If you wanna say Wlad has bigger claim to greatness because of a 10 year title reign and so many defences, it’s a fair claim and has to be acknowledged as a factor to think about.
My personal belief is Fury beats anyone in history head to head, prime for prime.
Whether he has the greatness of longevity, title reigns etc is another thing and others could be well ahead in that department, nobody can really argue against it.
He hasn't been proved against slick boxers we can't say He is best H2H lets se how he do vs usyk then judge H2H
You can't even say its just mythical tyson fury would have problem with mike even Fury know but its mythical who win great is what you achieved not mythical matches

Would be he top 5 HW top 3 best ever top 10? Or he need more depth in his resume and title defences
Already has a case of being the best H2H heavyweight ever. Resume wise i’d put him inside top 10 if he wins undisputed. Fought everyone relevant that he has to in his era. You can have many title defenses against clowns and it wouldn’t matter. I’m sure the haters will then say “oh he didn’t fight the loser of aj-usyk” to split hairs. Lmao.
You’d have to think so . He could have done that but he declined that fight for Whyte though. Your also assuming Usyk gets by A.J who is a more a danger to Fury . At least 3 guys maybe 4 would give him some rough spots certainly a better fight then Whyte did you really can’t go much on that fight ,Fury was on point and Whyte was a let down . Right now as it stands he’s got 2 title defense that’s not ATG conversions .
just answer the freakin question. Where would you put him if wins undisputed with the aj-usyk winner. It could be usyk or aj it doesn’t matter.
He's already one of the greatest h2h boxers of all time, what does an Usyk win actually do for him? Usyk went life and death with previous Fury victim Chisora and won a reasonably comfortable decision against the biggest hypejob of the decade.
Usyk would be a good win on the resume, but either way Fury is still going down as one of the best.
