the Povetkin fights are nothing he was fighting a skeleton
but he didn't look anywhere near that impressive against Joseph Parker of all people, he didn't look that great against Rivas, He looked bad against Wach (i understand that was a short notice fight but still) and don't think he looked that great against Chisora (although he got the KO in the 2nd)..i think the first fight was a 50/50
I just don't see, based on any recent performances, where you guys think this guy has any shot against Fury
The Parker fight shouldn't even be considered a win. Even by the judges scorecards, if the headbutt wasn't counted as knockdown, it would have been scored as a draw. That's not even mentioning the constant fouling by Whyte.
Whyte's resume has decent names but the actual performances aren't that special. Two of his biggest wins(Parker and Chisora) he barely scraped out a win and that was with the ref favoring him.
Whyte is just a level below guys like Fury, Usyk, Joshua and Wilder. You can see it with Whyte's fight against Lucas Browne. Those guys would have stopped that version of Browne in the first 2 rounds at a minimum. Whyte took 6.
Fury will school him, and then all these guys saying 'Dillian is dangerous, he's a live dog' etc will suddenly go very quiet.
- - AJ leftovers Whyte gonna have Blubber eating Shyte for his homecoming.
Dillian is limited, but has Fury fought anyone as good since his comeback? Certainly not fought anyone with the resume of Whyte.
Let's not forget that Fury has been down 4 times v Wilder and almost stopped by Wallin. The only other fight was Tom Schwarz... Neither has looked particularly unstoppable.
It's heavyweight boxing. Just enjoy the fight! There will be fireworks.
Keeping it 100
Its a very simplistic view many people have, "well Fury's better so he wins"
I think this fight has a certain amount of intreague, I think if Fury wins its a good solid win on his resume also, well if you listen to these guys fury shouldnt get any credit because all he did was beat a guy who the reanimated corpse of Povetkin brutally ktfo?
Is that right?
You could equally argue that Fury hasn't done anything near enough to be in the category where you question why he's even having to fight a top 5/top 10 guy.
Whyte is a live dog in the fight. Fury's a big favourite for good reason though
So let me get this straight. When he wins it's only the performance that matters. When he loses its only the result that matters? Or possibly the opponent.
I think it's unfair to say he didn't look good against Povetkin. In both fights he boxed really well, and showed his power. In the first he just got caught and removed from his senses. It happens in the heavies against decent opposition, and he avenged it.
Parker and Chisora are tough fights. You don't beat those guys unless you are worthy of at least being in championship contention.
I mean, Chisora was all Fury had on his CV when he went and won the belt.
So what's the problem?
Fury is a big betting favourite but Whyte isn't without a chance. And who knows what a hometrained Fury looks like. You might be getting the best Whyte and the worst Fury. That's always a risk with Fury.
Povetkin was the same age as Klitschko when Fury fought him ..
Except, you know, the minor detail of Klitschko being the reigning unified, lineal champion of the world who hadn't lost in over 11 years. While Povetkin was half dead.
Yeah he was going life & death with Chisora.
I’d be interested to see what state Fury is in tbh. Whilst he mostly dominated Wilder across 3 fights, I think he took a lot more damage than he let on. Wilder clearly hits very hard, and Fury was dropped hard a few times.
