You really think tank has Floyd level skills
I think what I said was "Floyd like skills". It's not always obvious to the naked eye because he engages more...which means he is going to get tagged more often than Floyd did....but I definitely think he can become "The Floyd" that we always hoped Floyd would have been.... great skills but with a mean streak and the killer instinct.
Shawn Porter was the best gatekeeper in 2010s. He was proven against top level competition. However, he was lacks something special like Nash Out said. Davis is not even proven. Porter would spank him.
- - Boner already KOed Tanksy, but maybe Tanksy was pregnant then.
The difference is tanks second gear. Porter just goes at the same pace start to finish. He has great stamina and solid legs and chin. Davis cruises a bit sometimes which makes him slightly vulnerable...but when needed he can step on the gas and power and close it out. He is being molded to be the next Mayweather....but I think that undermines him. He has Mayweather like skills but he is more brutally engaging and has much more power. Hopefully they will eventually unleash him and we will see how great he really is.

By the time he was Gervonta's age Floyd had already beaten:
Genaro Hernandez
Gregorio Vargas
Diego Corrales
Carlos Hernandez
Jesus Chavez
Jose Luis Castillo
Jose Luis Castillo again
DeMarcus Corley
When Floyd was 28, which Davis will be this year, he fought Arturo Gatti and Sharmba Mitchell back to back.
Gervonta will be lucky if his resume reads half that good by the time he retires. You don't even have to get into the later wins Floyd racked up, eg. Judah, Baldomir, De La Hoya, Hatton, Marquez, Mosley, Ortiz, Cotto, Guerrero, Canelo, Maidana twice, Pacquiao, and Berto.
Floyd has at least 20 wins better than Gervonta's best.

Shawn Porter:
D vs Julio Diaz SD 10
W vs Julio Diaz UD 10
W vs Devon Alexander UD 12
W vs Paulie Malinaggi TKO 4
L Kell Brook MD 12
W vs Adrien Broner UD 12
L vs Keith Thurman UD 12
W vs Andre Berto TKO 9
W vs Danny Garcia UD 12
W vs Yordenis Ugas UD 12
L vs Errol Spence Jr SD 12
L vs Terence Crawford TKO 9
Gervonta Davis:
W vs Cristobal Cruz TKO 3
W vs Jose Pedraza TKO 7
W vs Hugo Ruiz TKO 1
W vs Yuriorkis Gamboa TKO 12
W vs Leo Santa Cruz KO 6
Cruz was shot (0-4-1 in his last 5), Ruiz was 2 weight classes up from his title weight, Gamboa was 10 years past and 2 weight classes up from his title reign, Santa Cruz was unranked in the division the fight took place in. Davis is a one win wonder at 27 years old. Pedraza is the only titlist he ever faced that was ranked in the top 10 by the TBRB in the division he fought them in at the time of the fight, and Pedraza was only #7.
Shawn Porter actually tested himself.
No Porter sucks. He was a middleweight in the amateurs and had to kill himself his whole career to fight in his weight class. Never moved up.
Why is that ?
Because he has no skills and he needs to compensate it by trying to be the heavier man, which only works against boxers outside of the top 10. Porter is and always has been a BUM.
Nope, he's still unproven. Not sure what he's waiting for, I guess so long as he can earn a decent payday fighting drained fighters and hype jobs he'll keep doing that so he can protect his precious "0" in the loss column.
two totally different styles of fighting. i don't think tank is just power, or just speed...he has some good fundamentals to go with the talent and athleticism. a better comparison would probably be tank and zab judah. tank is definitely a more talented fighter than porter but i don't know if he has the same grit or work ethic in the gym. porter gets my nod for inside fighting, i don't really think tank likes it at that range.
how do you know? he's never fought anyone that he could prove it against
It's not about opposition, more about things I can see in fighters, at any level. If you have something, you have it, and Davis does imo. Porter is all about grit and desire, but he doesn't have it. Personal opinion, but I believe Tank will prove me right. I was telling everyone that Fury had it, over a decade over, but at that time many HW's would have beaten him, but he had that something, that if honed, as it was by Peter Fury, he could be special, and he is. Nash out.
Porter is the kind of guy that can give anyone a hard fight, but lacks that special something to win at the highest level. Tank has that, and that's the difference. Nash out.

Agreed, but Shawn was always chomping at the bit to prove himself at the highest levels. It remains to be seen if Tank has the same appetite to test himself. Sort of a strange post because I don't really see what the parallels to draw between them are.
I don't see the parallels either, but this is the topic so just going with it. Tank has time, but I agree, I think he needs to start by at latest next year at fighting the best of the best to see who is boss. Porter is/was a world class fighter as well, just lacked on elite gift that the greats have, and Tank, he has that one punch power. Nash out.
