Roy and Pacquiao were both once in a lifetime talents who accomplished things in boxing no one had ever done before, and no one might ever do again.
But, who was more talented between the two?
Stop just stop.. Neither was prime. Hopkins was clearly pre-prime. His prime was almost at his 40. Physical prime is nonsense without best experience, resume and skill.
Nonsense. Toney was universally ranked Top 3 P4P when Roy schooled him. How can you say he wasn’t in his prime? :lol1:
Be honest, how old are you man? Were you even following boxing back in 93-94?
At his peak RJJ is the most talented P4P fighter I’ve ever seen.
100%. I can guarantee the fans who were actually around in the 90’s will have a much different opinion to the newer fans on this subject.
"Prime Toney and prime Hopkins"? Huh?
Toney was 26 years old and 44-0. Hopkins was 28 years old and had won 22 straight. So both were clearly in their physical primes.
Toney was certainly in his prime as a fighter, Hopkins you could argue was pre prime as he started late and had his best run in his mid to late 30’s.
That 25 lb jump didn't age well with his career. Now, is that 5'8 midget going to do it? He seems to jump around weights with no problem. I thought moving around weights wasn't healthy?
pac is more skilled, more well rounded, better resume, more proven
RJJ was more athletically gifted. His style didnt work well though once his reflexes started to decline. RJJ's speed was crazy fast for his size. Pac was fast sure but there are a lot of small guys who are fast.
Also I think that RJJ sometimes gets underrated on skills, he had skills and knew what he was doing to setup his shots, its just he based his style around having that insane reflexes speed so it didnt make for longevity. Its like taking a tall fighter who based their strategy around fighting tall using distance and making them short overnight and not expecting them fall off
RJJ was probably the more talented. A freak athlete.
For all Mannys accomplishments he’s still a talented midget. You can’t be 5’5 and gifted by definition. Being a dwarf isn’t a gift.
pac was a way better fighter than roy jones jr
roy jones relied on athleticism and to be honest , fought in a very weak era and took steroids for a longer period of time than manny pac . even when pac was clean, he won titles
I think if they were the same size prime and fought, Roy would stop him.
My definition of talent in boxing is having a large dose of god-given skills, it is a blend of brilliance and dynamics.
What’s the difference? Pacquiao was a little sturdier with thicker bones. Roy had more swag. One learned on the job to be a rugged fighter, the other came up through the school system. Both were fast as sht and super athletic.
I’ll lean to Pacquiao because he had heavier hands, took a punch better, was a world champ at 18 and still a champ till he lost at 43.
Pac made it to 140 with pure athleticism.
He boxed with Mayweather to a contested decision with pure skills. His other athleticism was gone by then and injured
He straight up outboxed young undefeated ww champ Keith Thurman with pure skills when he was 42
what did Roy do once his reflexes were gone?
Pac is not only more athletic
He was also more skilled
Pac is more impressive guy. He beat much bigger guys at their natural weight.
The question was who was more talented. I know you’re not the sharpest knife in the drawer but try to keep up. Read slowly if you need to.
The obvious answer is Jones but Manny isn’t far behind as did much more with the talent he had.
