As some know, his camp has been much different this time around as his father has not been part of it like he has for his entire career, dating back to when Gary was a child. His father had complications with diabetes and had his foot amputated and Russell Jr admitted he is going to this fight with a "slight injury." Magsayo has power but Russell Jr is the much more talented boxer. But Russell hasn't fought in over two years and is dealing with a lot of adversity heading into the fight. We saw Tony Harrison's father pass away and his next performance was terrible. Fighters go through different trainers all the time but father trainers are different as they have been with their kids since day one.
I'm not a betting man, but don't think it is the worst of ideas to throw a little on Magsayo here?
I think Russell will win by UD or KO...
Magasayo is a young pitbull but no have the habillities to beat Russell.
Which will be the real reason why Russell fights so little a year and why the cowars boxers docking him so much.
talking about injury before the fight is never a good sign, left hook will drop Gary then simple 1-2 will end this fight and Russel's career, unfortunately
GRJ would need a bad camp and also need to bust up both hands for Magsayo to have more than a pure lucky puncher's chance.
Magsayo was being beaten by Ceja and landed that punch to bail him out but landing it on Ceja and landing it on GRJ are two different things entirely.
The difference in talent is vast. Unless there's something very very wrong with Gary it's gonna be along and painful night for Magsayo I think, although I don't see him lying down. Dudes gonna keep trying I think and I can see him going the distance but getting busted up round after round.
As much as want Magsayo to win, him being dropped hevay by a former 115lber in his last fight puts heavy doubts n my mind.
GRJ has power, quick hands, good chin and surprisingly good stamina for a very inactive fighter.
So it's an upset if he loses. Why is that? He's been in the sport since time immemorial, yet he's not being pitted with the same level he has. Isn't that sad?
True, and Russell really has never been troubled by any punch. He was getting worn down a bit by Jojo Diaz in the later rounds.
But this may be the worst Russell we have seen to date.
True and we have yet to see a magsayo that can beat Russell on his worst day.
I do not think magsayo will be competitive. Gary can win in several ways, magsayo needs a ko

Gary Russell at his best I believe is an A-/B+ fighter. I dont think Magsayo has that gear to go up to that level. If he does he has a good chance being bigger and youthful but again, I dont see him having that extra gear Russel has. I cant call the way Russel wins given his lay off and father problems but he should win easily whether its a UD or tko.
I think if he had his father and was only out for a year, you could pretty much write this down as a UD win or even a late stoppage. But with his father not in his camp for the first time and whatever injury he may be dealing with, I just don't know.
