boring, sloppy, fights dirty, zero power, fought like a wrestling match
zero fanbase. lost all his big fights.
given a gift vs ugas.
knocked down by adrien broner
even part time thurman dusted his ass and part time got smashed by a semi retired old man pacquiao shows how overated shawn was
why is he considered good?
oh because he's "a nice guy" and "humble"
to top it all off, people call him a "warrior" and yet his daddy had to save him before the going got tough.
fraud.
Bud was the last one to the I beat Porter show.
Not that great of a win.
Porter was a decent gatekeeper.
Bud has to hurry his ass up. He needs 7 quality opponents in a row to make his resume respectable.
Shawn Porter is the american version of Derek Chisora 'But ever so slightly more sophisticated'.
Porter's style was always going to gain him plenty of supporters, and promoters where always going to give him opportunities.
I would say people have overrated him slightly, only the sense that? People would sometimes speak as if he was elite. Shawn Porter is a world class fighter, and has pretty much been a gatekeeper for the latter part of his career.
When Terrence Crawford faced Shawn Porter, he was in the same position as Oleksandr Usyk when he faced Derek Chisora. Both Crawford and Usyk where facing fighters, who where world class gatekeepers 'If you can get past these type if fighters, you are world class in that division'.
So overall, I do think people got carried away a bit with Porter. But I think most people knew, he was just a tough, durable fighter 'Who did not have elite level skills'.
Shawn Porter has had great career, left it all in the ring.
Shawn is a winner, and the guy has paths aplenty to successfully travel. He set, in my opinion, a better standard for boxers' behavior, and he absolutely lights it up as an announcer/commentator. I think he's a leader who could successfully run for public office, or star in a Showtime series. He's a natural.
His podcast is great too, check it out if you aren’t already subscribed.
Like it better than that cringe podcast that Teddy Atlas has.

Spence is the boogyman? Guy couldn't get out of the building fast enough last weekend. Never seen a boogyman run away like that.
It was always between them 2 for king of the division originally as i say i'm not even a Spence fan so not like i'm saying he has chance or going to win fact is that's for top of the division.
I disagree. Spence worked him over pretty easily, he outboxed Porter on the inside. Outside of a few nice counters from Porter that fight was all Spence.
Nah it was too many swing rounds tho..but I see where ya coming from.
But which fight you thought was more clear Thurman, Brook, or Spence? No point in bringing up Ugas he should have lost
Tbf Spence has always been the true boogeyman we just knew Porter would test him more than anyone before him which he kind of did.

Spence vs Porter was super close. That knockdown edged it.
Thurman was more clear
and Brook wasn't close.

Those fights were not "either way". Post like these are why people have been calling Porter overrated. He lost to Spence, Brook, and Thurman and the losses were all clear. The fights are on Youtube, they weren't close at all. Porter is a great example of fans overvaluing ineffective aggression.

Jesus the hot takes, revisionist histories, agendas and narratives are out in full force again.
Porter is who he is. He has an awkward, ugly style, and doesn't have one punch KO power. He has plenty of good wins on his resume, he's defeated guys like Malignaggi, Alexander, Broner and Garcia when they were relevant He's been in alot of close fights, some he won and some he lost. Something tells me that the OP didn't really want to talk about Porter tho.
Either way fights with Brook, Thurman and Spence
only really decisively lost to Crawford
in a parallel universe, Porter won all of those fights, Crawford excepted, putting on the exact same performances. How different would your view be then?
if any different, your view is skewed by official results, instead of actual performances in the ring. This type of thinking brings legitimacy to the worst part of this sport…
Either way fight with Brook? Ridiculous revisionist history there, he got his butt schooled in that fight. I’d also add that he was easily outboxed by Ugas but Christmas came early. I love Shawn but let’s not make crap up cause he’s a nice dude.
I've never been a huge fan of Porter, he has a lot of heart and he's a warrior hes fought all the champs, but he's style is trash head first no gameplans just make an ugly fight and test you, glad Crawford fully exposed him, cool guy, nice to see him retire wish it was a bit more of a brutal KO tho, felt bad for him for his dad stopping the fight at the wrong time
Here we go again...
Spence is the most overrated guy in this generation. Couldn`t stop lightweight Mikey Garcia, couldn`t stop "a gatekeeper" Danny Garcia, struggled badly with "overrated" Shawn Porter..
If you mean me i'm not saying Spence would win i was just simply saying not many really thought Porter was going to win just that he was going to test Crawford. It's Spence a lot of people claim will beat Crawford.
