you do realize marvin lost to lesser fighters than canelo right? I mean he did hit his peak and went on a great run, but he's not invinscible from a boxing perspective......he could be out boxed that's not impossible......
Marvin didn’t really lose though, that’s the thing. Yea, he has official losses on his record but these were more “political” decisions by local judges than they were clear defeats. They were also very early in his career.
I don’t think taking what I said to the extreme right and arguing back makes much sense. Obviously no man is invincible. That said, if you know about Marvin’s career than you should know he won these fights against the top guys from these cities, in their hometown, with their promoters handling the judges and refs.
Canelo isn’t good enough to outbox Hagler. That isn’t a knock on Canelo. He is great. But nothing I have seen makes me think he’d beat Marvin Hagler.
No
Hagler never was one to retreat and prey to hear the final bell. His chin and body were iron covered with steel. Never any gas problems.
Hagler makes Nelo rethink coming forward and Nelo hopes to win the fight moving around.
Yeah I think this is a solid post.
These guys don’t understand that Marvin went on the road and beat the best guys in every city.
His resume is filled with really tough solid fighters that posters don’t know.
Canelo is a great fighter but I agree Hagler would dominate him. That is no knock on Canelo.

Canelo has far better head movement as Hagler was as stiff as a iron robot he would throw wild shots leaving himself completely opened to Canelo counters.
Hagler was a wild brawler on occasions soon as the bell went in the first round he would come out swinging that style is PERFECT for Canelo.
Hagler was a machine tho had unlimited stamina and was tough as concrete i just think Canelo feints and head movement would be to much for Hagler to handle and he would be countered to death.
Canelo by a easy decision.
Anyone else SERIOUSLY doubt this guy has ever watched Hagler fight?
Wow, you must rate Callum Smith, Plant and Saunders very high. because Canelo dominating them makes you think Canelo stands a chance against the best middleweight ever lol.

This is where we overrate fighters from previous eras, Canelo beats him pretty easily.

Hagler by UD in a brutal war that leaves Canelo with more bruises and cuts than any fight in his career.
That's what I thought, too. But that war would last a little more than Hagler vs Minter.
The John Mugabi who gave hell to Hagler would be enough to knock Canelo out. Both Hagler and Mugabi were superb boxers.

Based on what? There’s literally not one thing Canelo does better than Hagler. Not one!
I won some money by picking the over, but I had Plant ahead on the cards at the time of the stoppage. I thought he was boxing well off the back foot, and making Canelo miss a lot, while hitting him with counters.
Gonna get flamed now lol
i wasn't scoring the fights. I don't score fights anymore because it takes away from my enjoyment, but I thought Plant won a LOT of rounds. 8-2 in Canelo's favor was atrocious. No way.
Yeah I think this is a solid post.

Completely agree mate.
I think it would be a close fight, I give Hagler the edge. Now I think you can pick someone head to head while still having the other guy higher on an all time list because they've had a better career. Canelo has had a better career than Hagler, but Hagler beats him head to head. The work rate, stamina, and jaw are all time great for Hagler.
I’m assuming the guys picking Canelo haven’t seen enough of Hagler. They’ve probably only seen the 87 version that lost to SRL instead of the early 80’s version who was tearing through the Middleweight division.
Canelo is an unbelievable fighter in his own right and a modern great himself, but there’s no way in hell he beats a prime Hagler. A peak Hagler gives Canelo a beating IMO.
As you said man, levels…
