I hate these silly costumes like Wilder wears looks like a star wars reject.
Give me the days of simple nothing but a robe or towel and guys holding the title belts in the background. Tyson and Holyfield had simple old school entrances but you could tell they meant business.
Tyson's entrance before Spinks is the greatest ever very simple.
I think the fire works and lighting is all over the top 'And not authentic'.
I think sometimes promoters or fighters think this is entertaining 'Real entertainers don't need any of that'.
Mike Tyson's entrances were always captivating, my personal favorite was his entrance for Razor Ruddock II.
Chris Eubank Senior, Nigel Benn, Prince Naseem Hamed 'Always had good entrances, because they were a extension of his very own internal character'.
Anthony Joshua has all these big entrances, but unlike Prince Naseem Hamed 'I don't find them authentic'.
But I would say that Joshua's last entrance song, suits him fine 'Robert tepper - no easy way out' was the first time I felt like the song was his 'It reflects where he is at, this stage of his career etc'.

This is my favorite Prince Naseem Hamed entrance.

It's not like boxers haven't been doing it for decades. Wilder definitely isnt the first its showmanship. Is it necessary? No it's not but it's not a new thing either.
It ain't new, but the fact that it has become the standard is new.
Which Klitschko came out to Tina Turner's Simply the Best? I thought it was so corny that it was awesome.
That's the only way to stand out--flip the script. Everybody is too busy trying to create an aura, trying to be different in the same way. Know yourself. Keep it real. And get down when the you hear a "ding".
That never goes out of style.

It's gay, dude. Point blank.
This is part of boxing going from fighters to performers. Don't get me wrong; it's always real in the ring. But it's no coincidence that ring walks have become popular while the idea of high ranking fighters avoiding other high ranked fighters has also become the norm.
I understand why fighters who can make money from fighting less dangerous opponents, or even tomato cans, would choose them. But it's not fun to watch. I tune in to watch champs beat other champs with skill and prowess, tactics and power. I hate mismatches when we all know the outcome ahead of time; it's like watching a bully beat on some stupid fool in the schoolyard.
Hit the fast forward button, and hopefully it's worth watching. And then I mute the stupid commentary. But that's another thread!
yeah I skip entrances and national anthems, I just browse or do something else. Always liked early Mike Tyson'sno nonsence entrances, but always intimating.
It's not so much the spectacle but just the sheer length of time it takes for them to get to the ring. Let them put on all the music, fireworks, ridiculous outfits and whatever so long as they get to the ring without wasting ten minutes of everyone's time.
On that note, who remembers this?

Apparently Naz was good to go and was waiting for the cue to come out, but there was some kind of mix up behind the scenes so he continued dancing lol as Kelley got riled up waiting
I’m not sure tbh. I know Vitali mainly used Hells Bells by AC/DC and Wladimir mainly used Can’t Stop by the Red Hot Chilli Peppers can’t remember either using Simply the Best. Eubank famously used it and I remember Arthur Abraham using it occasionally as well.
Just looked, Wladimir used it for the fight against Corrie Sanders (didn't work out well for him). Not sure if he ditched it after that one...
It's also used for intimidation. Guys try to seem bigger than they are to make opponent anxious
Wilder looks like a wolly though. When he wore the basic gold mask with the gold attire, that was good.
what he became later is an absolute joke.

The entrance is part of the event. The atmosphere for AJ entering against Usyk for example was on another level. Wilder and fury will both make a meal of it this weekend and so they should! It’s an event
best ring enterance was when Mike Tyson walked out to Pac's Ambitionz az a ridah in the MEN Arena...
we lived 10mins away..my uncles took my brother to that, i was well p*ssed off they didnt take me.

I was in the army, home on vacation in December of 1997. I was watching this live on HBO while my mother had went to story up the street from her house when Prince was coming to the ring. When she got back, he was still dancing and she said, "that n____ aint got to the ring yet????" hahahhaa. She wanted kevin Kelly to win bad after that, but I was actually a Prince fan. I was a Prince fan before Americans were aware of him. I would see his rankings in boxing mags and read about him in IBD and I had a friend in NJ whom would trade tapes thru the mail across the globe and he got a LOT of Prince early fights. There was no youtube back then. The first Prince fight I saw live was against Cabrera on ABC wide world of sports when he ko'd Cabrera in 2 rounds. The struggle was real in the 90s with tape trading throught the mail lol.
Great story. That's hilarious. I remember swapping boxing tapes back in the day. I also remember a friend of mine accidentally using some of my fight tapes to record porn and then forgetting he did and returning them back to me. A bit of surprise to see a different kind of "action" on those tapes when I got them back.
As for Hamed, his fight with the Flushing Flash had to have been the first time I saw him live on TV. Had only read about him in boxing magazines prior to that. His war with Paul Ingle is one of my favorite fights of all time. The Yorkshire Hunter fought bravely but was seriously outgunned in an incredibly violent scrap.
If you're referring to Triller, then, yeah, they suck. If you're referring to like in the UK when AJ walks out, I don't mind those so much. It's not like an overly dramatized intro but just a lil something extra for the favorited fighter. It's not so bad when he ends up losing.
I think when they come out rapping and dancing, then end up losing, that looks the worst of all.
Boxing is an iffy sport with big grand entrances. On one side, if you win, it makes it that much more spectacular, on the other side of losing, it looks that much more hamulating. You just don't play boxing and glorifying something you don't play can have drastic unexpected outcomes.
That Hamed entrance was epic (but so long). I still remember watching that on television.
