Don’t defang Joshua, respect Usyk’s win

Boxing fans don’t deserve the best fighting the best. They should stop asking for it. Because when these fights happen, the loser lost because he sucks. It’s never that the loser is good but the winner is better. Even Usyk fans are probably going around disrespecting Usyk by saying Joshua is a bum. Unintentionally downplaying his win while also trying to convince everyone that Usyk is great. So which one is it? Clearly, AJ is a good fighter. It’s just that Usyk proved to be better. And that’s why promoters and networks are not quick to put the best vs the best. Because fan feedback for the loser is usually always unfair. I think it's part of armchair boxers living vicariously through the real fighters. Due to lack of real connection to the fight, and often any kind of combat or competitive sport, the victory doesn't feel complete unless they badmouth the loser too. That's juvenile, just like badmouthing your opponent before the fight IMO. I tell my boys: 1. You can be tough without being mean, and being mean don't make you tough. 2. Good sportsmanship is winning well and losing well, and shaking the hand of the opponent either way.

I predicted Joshua would win. I thought Usyk had a chance and mentioned that, but I thought AJ would win. I gave my opinion that if Usyk wins, it will be some other way and won’t be like Ruiz’s win. Usyk outboxed AJ. I will reiterate that did not see that coming. I was wrong. I thought AJ had this. After the fight, I thought to myself: Watch fans defang AJ now instead of giving credit Usyk. I already see fans playing down AJ for his 2nd loss. Instead of giving credit to Usyk. So disrespectful to both fighters. 1. You are shamelessly taking Usyk’s shine away from beating a favored, bigger, #1 HW who will probably be dangerous until he is past prime. Trying to downplay that he is now holding 3 major titles. The guy was ranked #10 at HW. Looked like ass vs Chisora. And still went to England and dethroned AJ. 2. Anthony Joshua is still a good fighter ffs. Why do boxing fans see things so black and white? Can’t AJ be good and Usyk better? Why is it one or the other? Seriously. Incoming threads will be: “AJ sucks because he lost to Usyk.” Or “Usyk is not that good, he beat a crap fighter”. Or “Usyk is a great fighter, and Joshua sucks.” It is so difficult for fans and critics to just say “Hey, fighter is an excellent fighter, but fighter B is just greater and that’s why he won.” Sigh. Proceed with the trolling I guess. It's the way of the modern world. As I said on here months ago, imagine the stick Frazier would get today after that Foreman loss when he went down every time he was hit. But because he's an olden day guy, he's a legend. Modern boxers lose once and they are suddenly bums. Jersey Joe Walcott loses 500 times and he's called better than anyone today! Nash out.

I don't slag AJ for the loss. One of the reason MMA fans and matchmaking is superior is because they are more forgiving of losses. If boxing fans were more like this then we would have much better matchups and more often. I'm not an AJ fan but he has fought alot of good opponents. He's beaten most of them. He still has a better resume than either Fury or Wilder. After a fighter loses, the "fans" log into sites like NSB, Twitter or whatever and proceed to label the fighter a bum or overrated or whatever. Chisora gave Usyk a very tough fight before he faded in the later rounds, Usyk then fights AJ and puts on a masterclass. Styles make fights and it matter when you fight someone.

You are a sewer rat compared AJ and Usyk. AJ, an Olympic Gold medalist, unified champion, who just lost to a fellow Gold Medalist and unified champion. When the best fight the best, losses happen. It has been happening for over a century now. The loser did not lose because he "sucks". The loser of an elite level fight lost because the winner is better. AJ "underperformed" in two pro fights. You underperformed your whole life.

Joshua has now lost to an unranked heavyweight and one ranked number 10. Joshua sucks. You are part of the problem of boxing. It's because fans like you that promoters protect fighters. When they give us good fights, the loser is trashed by fans who know very little of the sport and how competition even works. AJ sucks but beat W. Klitschko, Whyte, Parker, Pulev, Povetkin, Martin and avenged his loss to Ruiz. AJ has such a fighting mentality, such a competitive mentality, that he already has approached Hearn and Usyk about a rematch on the same night Usyk beat him. That is what you call a true fighter. A real competitor. And Usyk is probably going to show the same fighting mentality and give the former champion a rematch. Anthony Joshua does not suck. You suck. He is way better at his job than you are as a member of this forum. That's a fact.

I didn't lose respect for Joshua at all. I was in awe of Usyk's performance. It was exceptional, and it's a bit sad that there are fight fans who can't appreciate what they saw. But if we're talking about Joshua, then there's something most people don't seem to understand, but should... All fighters are beatable by the wrong opponent. That's why it's so impressive to hold 3 belts over a decent period, because you're not just fighting guys that you choose, you're fighting the guys that are put up regularly as mandatories. The odds are that you'll eventually run into the guy who has the style to knock you about. It could have been Povetkin, it could have been Pulev, it was Usyk. They're all very different fighters. We'd be getting this same response no matter which one it was. Regardless of the level of your opponent, it will always be less impressive beating guys that you chose from a long list. When Fury says he's unbeatable, that may well be true, but he doesn't fight anyone that he didn't select to be his opponent. Come back after fighting a couple of mandatories.

I gotta log off for a while. I actually didn't come away from that fight losing respect for Joshua really tbh. It was a close, competitive fight and the better boxer won.

Joshua fought well. He just fought Usyk's fight instead of his own. That's on his trainers.

Disappointing night from AJ, but all the props to Usyk. This still isn't a death blow to AJ, he can still reinvent himself, but something has to change ala Wlad Klitschko style. He needs to find his niche, this whole fight he was fighting Usyk's fight instead of attempting to unload his arsenal and enforce his will. Usyk was just a level about joshua, now i want to see him fight the winner of wilder fury. Lets see who the real champion is.

Joshua has been a classy champion and is a credit to the sport. He put up a very good fight but he just couldn’t keep up with the angles, quick reflexes and skills of Usyk. AJ will be back. He’s still at the top of the mountain among the other best heavyweights. The way Usyk fought tonight would be a nightmare for any of the other top heavyweight fighters. The movement and reflexes that Usyk has is almost never seen at heavyweight. Usyk is like a 220 lbs Lomachenko. His athleticism is almost freakish.

Most heavyweight champions would have steered clear of usyk. This guy is special , has untold stamina , footwork and timing super human and his chin is solid. usyks main attribute above everything else is his mentallity and aura. He knows how good he is and Joshua made one critical mistake and that’s trying to compete at usyks level in terms of skill , movement and feinting he came up short and that go’s for any other heavyweight in the division....a southpaw is hard enough to beat and masterful southpaw boxer is dam near impossible to beat but at least Joshua took the challenge against a prime super skilled and never ducked. usyk is special and your blind if you don’t recognise that

That thread wasn't to take away any credit from Usyk, his win was well earned. It was more directed toward all the "Joshua is an ATG" fanboys. Solid fight with to guys that are at the top and in their prime. It was a good fight because the rounds were flying by. Too bad that some are just fan of one fighter and were unable to appreciate it.
