Regardless of what people want to say that's the second elite level MMA fighter to have lost to a four fight novice with no amateur experience, UFC is advertised as the best against the best but thee guys can't beat a guy who has only ever had 4 fights in his life.
UFC is well marketed trash.
silva really shocked me how he performed with Jr. He looked like an actual boxer, he was actually outboxing Jr which blew my mind. Now I know Jr is the king of dissapointment so of course he woudl be the guy to get schooled by a 46 year old MMA fighter but silva still had to be highly skilled to do that.
I didnt know that he had 2 years of pure boxing training so that must be what really helped him break MMA habits.
Yeah, even after he returned to MMA after the injury he was still only doing boxing sparring for a bit. He didn't trust the leg. Then he had pro boxing fights in 1998 and 2005 and he's also been training Muay Thai since he was a teenager. Obviously Muay Thai striking is different from boxing, but a lifetime of Muay Thai definitely gives him an advantage over other novice boxers at least.
An old boxer knocked out a former UFC heavyweight champion in an MMA match. So it seems good hand skills are the technique that carries over the most between the two sports.
I said it in another thread earlier - MMA fighters lose 100% of the time (okay ignoring JCC jr) in boxing if they fight someone who is at a comparable level in boxing that they are in MMA. While boxers will generally lose quicker and look worse in MMA than the MMA guys in boxing, but maybe 1 time out of 10 they will land something early and get the upset. Thats how you end up with Mercer KO'ing a former UFC champion but also getting stopped in the first round by a D level MMA fighter. Its harder to get upsets in boxing because of the bigger gloves, much narrower skill focus, counts after the knockdown etc.
To be fair, Silva had 2 pro boxing matches prior to that fight and he trained nothing but boxing for over two years after he recovered from his gruesome leg break because he didn't want to spar kickboxing or grappling on the leg.
JCC Jr is still a clown for losing that fight but that was the exception, not the rule, just like Ray Mercer knocking out Tim Sylvia in 9 seconds in MMA.

Yeah I underestimated how hard it is to train that crap out of wrestlers.
I'd like to see Paul with Nate Diaz. He's more of a boxer that happens to do MMA.
They always look awkward in the ring with boxers, they dont line up on the same plane. Connor was constantly ending up behind floyd because they like to circle so much. Woodley did a better job as far as trying to fight in a line like a boxer but his footwork was pretty wack, he looked like a crab walking when he was bent down all low. Jake is so much worse than we thought, his punches telegraphed, gasses just like his brother, power is gone after two rounds ect.
Already forgetting that a 46 year old washed up MMA fighter schooled a former world champion in the boxing ring just a couple months ago?

90+% of MMA techniques are illegal in boxing. Its a hollow victory beating an MMA guy in a boxing match and isnt reflective of who the better fighter is.

Not in a boxing ring apparently.
Unless the boxer is a lazy addict.

Okay, good thing they have a bunch of other skills they could use to beat a boxer then huh?

Meh, there's some people hanging around the boxing training advice section on here that could touch up Jr.
But yeah IMO it's more dependent on whether the guy has a striking base like Silva or not. These wrestling MMA fighters look hopeless.
It's not that MMA fighters always have bad hands. It's just just MMA is so versatile it kinda defeats the point ig ever becoming an efficient boxer. Even in sports like may Thai and kickboxing kicks tend to earn more points than punches. It's meant that you can rise to the top with your boxing ability sorely lacking.
You call this guy an elite fighter, lol, boxers fight à sémi-retired guys, i'M sure Peter Yan who has some boxing skills, who started doing boxing then muay thaï and grappling will do quit good against any 135 pounder, Loma and Lopez would be difficulte but vs the rest of thé crop hé'll get some W's

They don't pretend they do MMA fighters can't punch for ****.
