Knowing that hunter brought up ward, I would have expected that he taught more craftyness to Barrios. Teach him how to shut down his opponents offense like Ward always did.
He was forced to move around and work hard whenever Tank was in walking down mode. Stayed at the end of the power, barely smothered davis work and should have picked more moments to put davis on the backfoot.
It was a very one note gameplan and they should have adjusted the minute he wasnt able to range control davis properly with his jab.
I dunno, but BoMack looked like he was going to have a ****ing heart attack from walking up those ring steps. Jesus christ he's a fat ****. I wouldn't be surprised if they have to cut his legs off in the next few weeks.

I dont mean to just copy ward. But there are certain things that are teachable that doesnt need elite level talent to slow down the pace.
He was always responding with counters and traded whenever davis was letting his hands go. There is time for that, but if he wants to pace a 12 round fight he should have occasionally slip the first punch and then step in, smother and tie up.
Davis would then have to work his way to close range again and he could win seconds on the outside with some keep jabs and tying to catch him coming in.
comparison would be how cotto adapted in the rematch. Instead of getting moved around every second of the fight, he tied up regularly in the second half to keep margarito from bullying him.
I think a trainer largely has to work with what he has
Imagine, weight class and age aside, a guy like Lara fighting tank. That’s all u have to do with Tank. Tank will never catch a guy like Lara period. It would be boring but it would shut down what Tank likes to do. It’s not rocket science. A guy like Barrios is to flat footed to beat Tank. This is why they avoid any boxers with great legs.
I don't really think you can teach any style to every fighter. Ward's style especially was kind of his own. He was just a tough smart guy who would get as rough and dirty as needed to muck up rounds. That is more innate vs taught I think

Can’t teach “talent” unfortunately. U also can’t teach to people who aren’t “awake” in the ring. They go into “cruise control” mode. Those type DONT ADJUST. .

Seemed better than morbidly obese Bomack who wasn't even realizing what hand was battering his fighter and looked like he didn't care what happened to Brant...
Yeah when I taped brant he was suddenly an in and out kind of guy with no killer instinct in his last fight. And pulled back in straight lines.
I thought old brant had a very small chance, but that bo mac version basically had zero chance.
Very awful corner.

The clenching this is weird but most of what I saw were physical limitations that no trainer would be able to address. Trying to make a tough but basic guy box like Loma would only confuse him. So I think Hunter did the best he could with what he had.
Yh I dont like clinching as a fan, but it was silly to not work on keeping davis from getting into a rhythm. They just trusted barrios to keep him off with his length for 12 rounds?
Barrios had the same problem with akhmedov and was drawn into a lot of exchanges. Unnecessary and also a pretty bad look that they didnt learn that much from that fight.
The corner was screaming to hold a lot of times when he was hurt. He just didn't listen.
hunter usually has the underdog in a lot of big fights and they usually lose
barrios didnt hold on a single time after he was dropped, which made for an exciting fight but is a terrible habit to have
